@timdunn2257 don't be too sure of that! I worked for Mcdonald Douglas and Boeing in Long Beach, California, as a Surface and Structure Mechanic. I saw things that would make you walk before flying. There are so many people that 'go out' to lunch. Lunch being 2 or 3 beers and maybe smoke a joint. Then go back to 'work' and continue building an aircraft that flies 7 MILES off of the ground! I'm glad I got laid off when I did. I went into Quality Assurance working for a Boeing vendor. At least the parts I inspected and bought off were correct. What they did with them at Boeing, at that point, not my problem. I refuse to fly on any aircraft!
@@JerryFrates I think you have confused me with another poster. I said, "Boeing's latest might as well be defective RVs." I have a family member who used to work at Boeing. The stories are scary.
We bought a new Forrest River Puma in 2020. Within one year it had to be sent back to the manufacturer for a complete teardown and rebuild. But, the manufacturer said it was the dealers responsibility, and the dealer claimed it was the manufacturer's responsibility. We finally had to threaten to sue. You name it. Water heater dumping carbon monoxide into the cabin. Toilet leaking at base. Several water lines leaking. Shower pan split down the middle. Wallpaper peeling off. Trim falling off inside and out. Screws just simply backing out of their holes inside and out. Bolts popped off the tongue jack. Frame has had several recalls over complete faulures at welded joints, sometimes near axles. Outdoor speakers failed. DVD player stopped working. Air conditioner stopped working. Three weeks later we got it back. Everything replaced or fixed. BUT. A year later, the slide out won't run out completely. There's a bulge developing in the metal siding on the outside top middle above the slide-out. The plumbing is leaking again. The outside trim they replaced is gone while towing, screws are backing out again. Air conditioner stopped working after one trip. No one wants to fix it, again. So I take it to places that have RV shows and give free tours, showing the horrible manufacturer fails, I show them pictures of the previous failures, before the "rebuild". If I can stop just one family who is going to spend $30,000 or more on these doorstops with wheels, I'll feel vindicated. NEVER BUY A FOREST RIVER PRODUCT, YOU'LL REGRET IT IMMEDIATELY!
We looked to replace our 2002 national sea view 32' A class with 85,000 miles last year. After research, we decided to gut out the bathroom replace all the windows and appliances. I should have her on the road this year. And she will still be paid for. I'm a contractor, so my wife and I are doing all the work. It's a nice project.
We’re in a Prowler for 2.5 years, living in. The toilet was installed incorrectly, rotting the decking. Kitchen faucet leaked, hoses not tight. Other little nitpicks that I was able to fix myself. Oh, dining table pole bases had to be refastened among other little things. Since this is a FEMA owned trailer, they were good about maintenance. We’re also on our third a/c in 2.5 years. Junk. The stove/oven everyone uses is also junk.
@@jeangraceNpeace6767 As he noted, buy something used -- get it inspected, educated yourself on how to look for and repair minor things. Alternatively, go way low end. We used to go to the RV shows and look at the simple weekend pop-ups. We ended up w/ a 32' 5th wheel (!) which we used extensively during Covid. But, hearing about all the issues now I might simply scale back my expectations and go for something super simple (e.g. no slides).
I spent several months researching fifth wheels trying to suss out who is manufacturing a better product. It’s amazing how poorly they are making them now. I ended up buying a Brinkley because of their quality. I’m sure that there will be some issues with it since it’s a new company building a new RV, but I’m sure they will take care of any problems that arise from any build issues. They have already contacted me a couple times to see how things are going with it, completely out of the blue! That is what I call customer service!
I am in my 8th decade of life. As a child I recall that "made in Japan" was synonymous with lousy quality. Now it's the U.S. that has assumed that dubious reputation.
I lived in Japan post WW2. 1957 Through late 1959. Japan was Rebuilding from the war. They Did make some pretty cheap Consumer goods. Three exceptions. 1. Knives of any Kind . 2. Watches. 3. Cameras. I still own a Ricoh box camera That takes amazing photos. The Japanese people I met all Possessed a dignified air and We're proud of their country Even though they were a Defeated people.
The problem is that the RVs are getting build in the U.S. Made in the USA means expensive junk. Look at the quality problems of American car makers or maybe the Airplane industry
Thankfully I purchased a Brinkley G3500. I felt exactly the same about the quality of so many RVs. I’m coming from my 2008 Lance truck camper. I can’t say I’d recommend today’s Lance products. When I first looked at the G3500 the salesman asked if I wanted to look at other brands. I told him not to even bother asking. I’m not interested in crap. He wasn’t surprised or offended by my answer. He simply said that he gets it with a bit of a chuckle. I have no regrets or buyers remorse. Keep giving your honest opinion and reviews as it’s very much appreciated.
Looked at a $500K RV, noticed the cabinets were missing screws in the hinges, shower had a loose valve, kitchen sink was missing the drain pipe under it, just said "thanks, I've seen enough" and walked away.
For 500k! we spent this much to add onto our Florida property adding an addition to the house adding a living room, new master bedroom, a pool, spa and massive summer kitchen. Investing in an appreciating asset which makes us not want to vacation anywhere except our back yard. I can’t believe some people spend this much on something that falls apart over time. You were smart to pass.
FINALLY!!! A TH-cam influencer that's got the stamina and courage to call it like it really is. The new RVs are pitiful and suffer from the same malady that has plagued many industries after the recent historical pandemic and supply chain meltdowns. Choices of building materials including the support frames, cabinets, plumbing, electrical and slides are so pathetic that it's embarrassing. Anyone with the slightest concept of house building, and common sense maintenance will stay far away until manufacturers improve to the pre 2000's level and ultimately sorted out.
No, sadly this has been happening for decades already! When you work on these things you see things that make your head spin! In the past they didn't have the cheap, unstable materials they have now! It took a long time for a water leak to ruin the wood and rare its head where you see it! Now this process can happen in months! Some materials are lighter and extremely better like AZDEL, but the bonding process still can cause delamination issues from production. RV's have never been as good or followed standards as well as home building! But quality in each is slipping even if standards have gotten better!
just watched your last video.I agree with most of what you said ,the one exception was that you thought they were better before 2018.I am a retired rv tech 25 years experience, I can tell you they where P.O.S. for a lot longer than that. The real problem started with the big recession, 2006 to 2009 .That period crippled the industry.lots of companies went bankrupt. Thor and forest river bought up everything. They don't care!!!! WINNEBAGO IS DOING ALL IT,CAN TO CATCH DOWN TO THEM.
I would like to make a comment. We purchased our SnowRiver (made by Northwood RV-same as Arctic Fox) 2016 in 2017. We camp 5 months in the winter in BC at a ski hill (temperatures went to -37 this year). It took up about 5 years of research comparisons to finally pick this trailer that met our needs and price point was amazing for a brand new rig. It is about 32 feet toe to tail. I will say with multiple trips across Canada and States this trailer has been a champ. There has been no issues with its construction, unfortunately, Northwood has discontinued this line. The only thing that we do need fixing are a couple of windows that have developed air pockets and have fogged up a bit. There are no leaks at all. We have completed a few mods for additional winterizing (extra insulation, etc.) This trailer is of such a high quality that they rarely are up for re-sale. It will be worth replacing these two windows as I have no desire to purchase another one. Our friends purchased a Grand Design Reflection two years ago and have had many initial purchase option mistakes and interior construction issues, the craftmanship skill set has a lot to be desired. There does not seem to be a level of pride in workmanship. We will hang on to our true four season trailer, it is a winner. Thank you for your comments, I very much agree with your analysis. 👍🇨🇦
The reason Northwoods and Arctic Fox are built better is because they are built in Oregon. Not built in Indiana by all the crack heads. During COVID when the RV manufacturers were pumping out units at warp speed they couldn't hire enough help. The manufacturers were so hardup for help one of their incentives to come to work for us was "we don't drug test". Keep buying the crap and they will keep building it.
We have an Outdoors RV (a division of NorthWoods). I couldn’t agree more. We recently went to the RV show in St Louis. I honestly had no desire to go in and see this cheap stuff. Our interior may be dated, but I honestly don’t ever see us buying another.
We have about the same trailer, the Northwood Snow River 246RKS. It is a very well built and solid trailer. The only worry I have for the future is the Schwintek slide system used for the couch. No problems with it yet.
I hate to say this but......The RV industry needs to be regulated, just like the Automotive industry. They need to be franchises also. The warranties are crap, and they make you sign documents that are highway robbery. Check out the Wingman . Oh, stay away from Camping World, they are the worst! If you drop your wallet in the store, you better kick it out the door before picking it up!!
Disagree. Most industries are already over regulated. How about the consumer being allowed to make bad decisions? How about the consumer being better educated? Government regulation will cause a price increase of 20% or more across the board, pricing many out of the market, reducing sales, reducing volume and increasing prices another 20% due to reducing economies of scale. Those who want more regulation are ignorant of economics and don't mind government controlling their lives instead of using their minds.
I’m not a fan of big government at all but I’m dumbfounded how government organizations can micromanage every aspect of the smallest car’s manufacturing process but couldn’t care less about 16,000+ pound trailers that can be pulled by amateurs. I think it’s time we force the hand of one or the other… the government or manufacturers.
Why blame the government? The lobbyist bribes are just high enough to keep any regulation away. People are hot and cold on what government oversight they want.
Well it’s not that the car industry delivers better quality product these days… you know how tight regulations are for Airplanes? Well the doors are still flying off… the problem is everything that is Made in the U.S. is expensive junk…
Grand Design - same story, well it used to be. Then GD made a midlevel 5th wheel Then GD made travel trailers Then Winnebago bought them out. The path is whore up the marketshare and make the P&L statement fat and ripe for big daddy parent company aquisition.
Okay - I like the Brinkley too, but they start at like 33’ and $90k. I neither want to spend nor tow that much! I realize you blanket stated with only the one caveat all brands were trash and I tend to believe but anything out there for a player? Intech? Airstream? Lance? - Cortes? lil snoozy?
I agree with you on all points...except on the year models of 2020 built in 2019. I bought and still own a 2020 "Thor " Keystone 26RB Campfire in October 2020 one owner that was built in summer of 2019. There is no osb board, all plywood flooring, plywood roof, painted front cap fiberglass wall exterior with exception of rear wall that is only fiberglass exterior. All hardwood cabinet doors but 👎has the pressed paper vinyl cabinet frame that is pocket screwed. We spent 6 weeks in Arkansas, Tennessee, and 1 month in Smoky's, trips to Florida panhandle etc. No molding issues. It has 2,420 cargo capacity, with 81 gallons fresh water 2 gray tanks. .....MY POINT is don't rule out campers of 2020 that was manufactured in 2019.
Wow. I’m shopping around for my Class C. This is eye opening. It makes such sense to purchase pre ‘18. I wasn’t interested in new anyway. But I worked and saved all of my life to live this dream. The industry will suffer for poor quality in the long run. Thank you for this video!😊
93 Chevy C dually CUTAWAY 22' 350 EFI is a great little RV I BOUGHT MINE FOR 7K WITH 80K MI. VERY MANEUVERABLE/DEPENDABLE, NOT OVERLOADED WITH ELECTRONICS AND EMISSIONS SENSORS. THIS ONE WAS USED FOR YEARLY CROSS COUNTRY FAMILY REUNIONS.THE ENLINE FUEL IGNITION SYSTEM IS BEST. PREFERABLY WITH REAR QUEEN BED FLOOR PLAN.
We were looking for another travel trailer. Local RV dealer here in Rochester NY area wanted $14k for a 2018 Kodiak couples camper. Looked great online until we went to put eyes on it. Bedroom wall was separating at the seams and there was delamination on 3 of the 4 sides. Once the salesman saw were interested but had a fix list, they offered to sell it for $12k as is. We walked away. Found a private seller had listed a 2016 Coachmen Catalina Legacy 233DS on FB Marketplace about 30 minutes. Seller had all receipts, manuals and even took the time to show us the accessories & how it all worked. It was immaculate. Wifey was happy with it and we bought it for cash. Great video.
You are a breath of fresh air! Honesty, what a concept! To lead with honesty, integrity, quality, and open to suggests, this is the approach that works! Brinkley, thank Gos for Brinkley, because now, you have what works, you can still make money, and build a quality unit! Does Brinkley make mistakes, you bet they do, the difference being what they do about it! Pre - Brinkley, the only quality brand that existed was Forest River and the Palomino div.,(I might be spelling that wrong?), and their Pause units! Yes, it is an off road camper, but not restricted to, but in addition to it, you have the choice of off roading, or regular camping at a camp site, you can not expect anything but quality from on end to the other. These companies show us, the consumer, that they can build a better unit, and still stay competitive! You are absolutely right, stop buying junk, demand better! Happy camping!
Things are a little bit different in the HDT world. Truck stops are the go to parking. In NV. They have alot of wide spots for truck parking. But I'll be enjoying a 450 square foot home.and I can carry 45,000lbs of personal items. That's water 275g 1/2 cored fire wood. I have 1530 watts of solar and more to put on. Now we bought the trailer when we were still trucking for a living. So the trailer was payed for.
Not made to last more then the first trade in..Sell 3rd year of use. Never live in one..use only on summer weekends and never camp on rainy days. 60 mph winds driving rain water under roof and siding plays hell with these cheap campers when towing in the rain.
This was the truth! I was just telling my land lord I’m not buying a new RV they’re all crap. 2010 and after I been exposing this to everyone for years already the biggest problem with this is some places have an year restrictions to stay so we need to boycott the campsite so we can keep are older models that still look bran new. I feel sorry for anyone who falls for a new RV😂
The observations you have on these RVs sadly applies to homes belonging to my new neighbors in north Texas in new $1million 3500 sq ft + homes. Junk cabinetry with solid surface tops and expensive fixtures. Not total junk but a far lesser grade of most materials than used in the home I built in late 90s. I have a living quarter horse trailer built in 98 and it has cabinets made from 3/4 plywood with hardwood veneer surface. Screwed and glued together with screws hold hinges securely after it has been towed more than 100k miles. The particle board and OSB materials don't hold screws in RVs or in homes over time.
I live in Canada and virtually all of the RVs sold here come from the US. I retired in 2018 and purchased a new Winnebago travel trailer and new F-150. The travel trailer looked really nice, but the quality was lacking. We had it for a couple of years and the hot water heater quit after a few uses. I repaired it and it wasn't long before the decals started to peel on the front and back; the side ones looked OK. The interior faucets looked nice, but were made extremely cheap. The toilet was made out of cheap plastic that squeaked and moaned. The wiring workmanship was verry sloppy, nothing was tidy looking or placed in wire loom. There were lots of screws rolling around and sawdust behind cabinets, etc. I fixed everything but I was concerned that some major issues might happen that would be costly to repair so I sold the truck and trailer. The quality of the truck wasn't all that great either. Due to Civid, I got most of my money back. It was very disappointing. If this product would have been made in China, people would be complaining about "cheap Chinese junk" nonstop. In my situation, the wheels, chassis, tires, windows, etc. were all made in China and worked great. It is unlikely that I will ever buy an RV again, if so, it would probably be an import.
Your analysis is spot on and I feel for the hard working folks that purchase these RV's thinking they are built as good as they look on the outside. I purchased a new 2022 29 foot low end travel trailer to use as a temporary office for my business. It sat outside for about 8 or 9 months, them moved into a garage. It never sees the road and is not being used any more, but has a leak under the bathroom sink and the last time I was in it the wood between the fridge and stove looks like it's swelling, so it must have another leak somewhere. I won't name the brand other than it's one of the mainstream manufacturers. Horrible.
Agree completely. My best camper was an 06 Hi LO 24 feet. never a serious problem. I only sold it last year. ( I shouldnt have) Most dealers are outright crooks.
I absolutely loved your video and just subscribed! My husband and I went to an RV show a while back and every one we went into seemed like it was made cheaply. I originally wanted to upgrade from our 2018 jayco prestige class c motor home but after seeing what's out there it made me realize how much better ours is. From the cabinets to the interior it's just a beautiful RV. I'm not seeing that quality anymore. Sure we've had some issues but they have been minor and fixable and I have to say jayco was awesome! Now seeing your video it wasn't just us noticing the changes. I'm so glad we didn't trade ours in! We appreciate it that much more!
We have had five brand new RV’s over the years. We had lots of things wrong with our first one, a 1979 but once the problems were fixed in the beginning, it was a pretty solid travel trailer. As the years have gone by, the quality just kept getting worse. Our most recent one is a 2013 which we bought brand new. Tons of troubles. The dealer and manufacturer felt no compulsion whatsoever to have to fix anything and were mostly pretty rude. Once you drive it off the lot, it’s YOUR PROBLEM!!!! The outside of fifth wheel started delaminating at around four years old. Tough!!!! Your problem!!! Now, it’s probably worthless because no one wants an rv that looks like sh!t on the outside. The bottom line is, they do it BECAUSE THEY CAN!!!!! 😡😡😡😡
My Wife and I were at Big Tent in Quartzite, Az just a few week back and checked out many A's and C's under 135$ and after looking at them and seeing how poorly they were put together we decided to keep our 2004 class C Tioga. In all, the workmanship was very poor. When asked to test the slide in one, it didn't work, and this was new. We even came close to closing a deal and asked for a few changes on warranty they wouldn't do. We got up and left. RV can only blame themselves as I'll never buy another.
Some good quality travel trailers to consider: Fiberglass Travel Trailers: Bigfoot, Escape, Oliver, Northern Lite. Larger towable 4 season travel trailers: Outback RV Black Rock, Northwood Arctic Fox, all aluminum framing ATC and Camplite Livin Lite
I was an aircraft inspector for 50 years and u are right. I just bought a 2025 Tiffin and the wiring is scary. If I did that in the aircraft business it would kill people. They just dont give a crap. The only reason I bought it was because I can fix it. Great video. U are right on point
I’m a 30 year 5th wheel guy and I’m on my fifth 5th wheel and my 3rd new one. I bought my last one in 2016 to be my last through retirement. I had zero issues with my first two new purchases aside from routine items that wear and tear. I’m most disappointed in my last and most expensive purchase that has cost me a bundle in after i bought it beginning with some expensive repairs within the two year mfg warranty. I had 3 separate tire blowouts on a trip early in that I paid for and ended up replacing all 4 with good US mfg name brand tires. I can’t take mine out on one trip without screws popping out or something falling off. I’m handy and can fix a lot of it. Service after sale is a joke. They sell them but don’t want to work on them unless you book an appointment weeks ahead and leave your trailer with them for a three weeks. I have a retired RV tech that does work for me but it’s still a hassle. Right now, I have a boondock water supply issue that he can’t solve and he’s a month into a blown cooler pack issue on the frig. Parts are expensive, hard to get, etc. in summation, I wish I kept my last trailer and I’d have $50,000 to spend on tow vehicle, fuel and trips. I can highly recommend United States Warranty as they have treated me fairly on my 10 year warranty. I can highly recommend Coach Net roadside plan as they perform as advertised. I also highly recommend Progressive insurance for RVs. I had a leaky roof issue. I’m an insurance guy and figured they would have denied or only paid for patch repair but they paid for an entire RV Armor roof job. My final recommendation is RV Armor roof in Denton, TX. They have a permanent, hail proof, leak proof product. In my opinion, these mfg installed membrane roofs are pure crap. You can develop small water intrusions in multiple places and not notice the damage until way later. These new trailers are slapped together junk and way inferior to my last new purchase late 90’s. I started to trade mine off but didn’t want to shell out $60K difference. I’ll just hope mine hangs together through my retirement and keep throwing money at it. Finally, I’ll recommend older used Cummins diesel trucks. Mine is a 2004 with over 200,000 miles on it and aside from maintenance, batteries and Michelin tires, I’ve spent $3,400 between a new front end suspension and new AC system. Runs like a top and still looks sharp.
Have had a 2011 38ft DRV for 2 years and no problems other than regular maintenance. We have put a lot miles down on western US roads that are rough. It has a real frame under it. It is heavy but doesn't break
I guess we got lucky with our 2017 Lance 2285 trailer. No major issues in 7 years. Everything still works, had to reseal skylights with eternabond tape, just had to replace bolts on slide, took 30 minutes. That's it in 7 years.
Actually you bought by before January 2018 when The REV Group bought Lance from the original owner. They used to call Lance a generational Camper. That’s because they were built so well you left them to your children. I had the misfortune of buying one that was made after Rev took over and it spent most of its time in the shop. What a piece of crap. I sold it after 11 months and bought a Nash. I’ve been living in it for three years and it has been a wonderful trailer with no issues. By all means take care of your Lance, it’s not replaceable.
We had a 2019 Lance 2375 and it was a great pull behind TT. Very few minor issues. Traded it off for a Winnebago 3225RL and it truly is a POS. So disappointed with it. On every trip, I always wondered what would 😮fail or break.
Thank you for this video. I've been an RVer for 35 years and I've seen so many changes. My current one has had so many problems that I call it my COVID Coach. My next one will be a pre-COVID era coach. So your video is timely. I wish you'd talk about the problem with slideouts.
We have a 2019 (built in 2018) Renegade Valencia 38RW that we purchased new in early 2020. We have been full timers since April 2020. We watched your video last night and were looking around at the ceiling and floor seams - all good and tight, no molding coverup. The quality construction on the Renegade Super C has really impressed us. The best feature of our RV is that it is "pre-Covid." Great video.
What triggered the recall? Good company ethics or a lawsuit? Every company will have issues but if they stand behind their product and fix it I respect it.
Yes, this was a self (Brinkley) recall. This is how companies are supposed to do things. Bravo Brinkley. They are showing the industry how companies should behave.
Its not just RVs. Homes are in the same situation. I've had friends see water pipes explode during brand new home showings. Another friend was having a home built and discovered the workers were sealing their fast food wrappers behind appliances and cabinets. Another had a foundation failure in a year. Another used infrared cameras to discover the builder had missed insulating large swaths of walls. But everything is ridiculously cheap.... except the price! I am not shocked RV are falling in quality.
Only thing I would add is I own a 2020 winnebago travato Class B and it seems ok. It’s built on a 2019 ProMaster but it do believe it was the last of its kind. Great video 👍🏼🇺🇸
Lippert builds good frames when asked to. I do hope in future Lippert starts rejecting some poor build designs but probably won’t happen as the customer has the design ownership and final responsibility for how it’s built into their product.
@@BuellXB12SDucati1198 agree. Lippert is building the frame to manufacturer specs. They have no idea what model is going on the frame they build. Manufacturer is putting the heavy rigs on frames that were not built for it. Where I blame lippert, is like you said... The manufacturers are spoiling their name with this crap, so they need to cut them off until they get their act together.
Larry you couldn’t be more wrong, it’s not the frame itself, the box on top is falling apart so that means they two of them need to get together and figure out how to do better.
@@nathanurick8320 well that's pretty strange cuz I've seen tons of pics/videos of broken welds in the frame. I still think the manufacturers are putting to much weight on frames they are spec'ing from Lippert
Had an RV show last weekend. We saw several used coaches. All were priced $20K above high retail. We laughed. Now we own a 2015 Fleetwood Storm 28 MS. This just did 6000 miles with no problems. Look out there and you can find a good product..
After my fifth wheel spent 6 months in the shop for the 49 warrenty issues I decided to fix everything myself because the repair work was so bad. Pretty certain I could pass the rv tech exam without taking any course. Also I have done a lot of work on friends rvs to help them out. You cant even imagine what I found. Some things on RVs are supposed to be done by licensed tradesmen such as gas and electrical but it appears that is not happening and there should also be quality control but it is so much worse than what you would expect to find in a house or car. Weather sealing of roofs and windows appears to be the most common issue, no quality control. Rodent issues due to massive holes everywhere also very common. I say put it all on youtube and let the chips fall where they may.
I can not think of an industry that will get hit harder by the next recession than the RV sales and manufactures. They are pumping them out while they can.
Thank you Sir, we are very appreciative for your honesty and recommendations. I did bought once a trailer with a detached axle from the frame. It scared the crap out if us, luckily the RV dealer reimbursed me for every penny. Totally appreciate your advice. 🙏🙏🙏
Hey Thank you for Helping So Many People. 😊 Thank you for your Honesty and Integrity on what is Truly Happening in the Rv Business Today. Thank you and God Bless 😊🏆
Hi there First time seeing your channel. Very good video, very informative, and this is the truth. Thank you for sharing with all of us. Let me ask you. Do you feel that airstream is doing l this? Or Are they keeping up with better quality? Thank you for a great video!!
My wife and I just went to our local RV show. What a joke! The ones we saw looked like an institution inside. The wall covering on every one was this grey pattern. The cabinetry was terrible. All the window shade boxes above the windows were crooked. I saw many of the campers had the cheap chinese tires better known as a may pop brand. The workmanship and quality of materials are sub par. If we could see it for what it is, I sure hope others could see what we saw.
I had a Flagstaff that would fill up with dust when traveling dirt roads. When you got to your location it had to be cleaned completely. Then, same on the way out. I called Flagstaff and was told, "that's the nature of the beast....nothing we can do about it. I was able to fix the issue myself by installing foam backer rod along the length of the slideout where it would seal against the trailer. SInce then I have purchased a Jayco micro that I do love. However, it is advertised as "Arctic Edition"...RIGHT...I upgrade the air to 15,000 btu and it can barely keep up. Same with the heating. Apparently there is little to no insulation in the top or bottom, yet it is advertised as "Arctic" You would die in the Arctic. My biggest gripe with RV manufacturers is their warranty, which equals none. You have to have the trailer repaired where it was purchased and the warranty is handled by each component manf. That sucks and should be addressed by Congress. It is an industry that has completely run amuck with little to no consumer protection.
you ar right boss. cheap. warranties, dealerships from design to lot a rip off, only bright light is alot going bankrupt, which i hope forces 3 or 4 decent builders to rise from the ashes. the cost is phenomenal for the shoddy craftsmanship and materials used. god forbid you need a warranty of a deal ship to help you out, been looking for past few years the more you learn the more discouraging it gets, a build your own probably the best way to go. older ones built well, but they put the 10 yr rule down
good video. That's exactly what I see in the RV industry. They put out cr*p; people keep buying them. We won't, and would rather build our own if we have to rebuild all the cr*p they put out anyway. I have been looking at Brinkley but have not seen one yet. Again great info thank you!
I retired and decided to sell all and travel myself. I traveled in 1975 to 1980 with my husband with construction. I learned big time about trailers. Now for the money most of them are not worthy of construction of it or of nice design and or strength and durability. I’ve been looking for 6 months it’s discouraging to me. Thank you for your honesty. Making things in the USA should be done with pride and quality assurance.
I have a forest river which I take off grid camping for weeks at a time and couldn’t be happier with it. It is my home sweet home. My dogs love it too.
We bought a used 2003 Roadtrek 190 Popular and LOVE IT. Quality made. Had a trailer and what a pain. Love our B Van. Can go anywhere, park anywhere anytime!!!
Have you ever seen what a travel trailer looks like when it rolls over? It falls apart like a wet paper towel. The biggest piece left is the size of a quarter.
I rented a bunkhouse travel trailer and that is a great way to see how good or bad a trailer is. If a trailer can survive a rental business then it’s well made. My trailer couldn’t pop out the slide with the house battery. Shore power only. The wall panels were repaired with staples because they took a beating and looked like crap. The storage drawer under the dinette seats broke and could only be accessed from the top. Could slide out. Bathroom shower head holder broke off. Stabilizer jacks were fasted with self taping screws not nuts and bolts and were rusted and bent. Good news was the hot water heater worked great. Fridge worked enough to pass for a fridge and the ac worked. Now I know why the off road trailers cost so much. They are built to survive off road! That costs money
We recently ordered a RiverStone Legacy 5th wheel. We did our due diligence. We’ve researched, did a factory tour, etc. We’re impressed with its construction and fit and finish. Did you check those out at the Florida RV Supershow? I think you’ll find their quality equal to, if not better than, Brinkley.
Yes, I have looked at them very closely, way better than most but still not what I would consider acceptable quality. They can do so much better in my opinion. Good looking RV's though...
I have a 2018 Lance 2285 and considered upgrading to something bigger for retirement travel. After seeing the junk stuff that I've walked through, I've decided to keep the Lance.
I have a 2019 Lance RV Trailer. Everything works, no molding required as all panels are precisely machine cut. All trim and cabs are real wood, ceramic toilet, premium sink and faucet. Undercarriage is extra heavy duty. Tows extremely well, has a lower profile. Check them out.
I looked at 8 different Puma Travel Trailers and 2 Coachmen Fifth Wheels. All of them junk. On 5 of the Pumas. I had to literally jerk the door open. On all units the side door latches didn’t work. Trim falling off. Just very disappointing.
You are on point with video on the current manufacturing quality, I have 2022 Class A with a F53 chassis that now has a broken frame extension put on my MORryde. Researching broken frames its amazing how many 5th Wheel with MORryde had broken frames. I just blessed that the Manufacture is taking care of our issues. Keep doing what you do.
You nailed it. Covid showed them that they could cut quality and still sell units. Unfortunately, they have now decided that they don’t want to absorb the cost of fixing the junk they are selling. I think the industry needs to be regulated.
I have never been in a Brinkley yet, however it does seem like all RV’s are made to be disposable. Unfortunately the cost of a Brinkley is out of reach for a lot of people.
Does Brinkley use stainless steel screws? I’m doubting they do. Give it time and they will have issues. Sounds like they are still better than most but there are still areas of improvement. I have a Northern lite truckcamper and all screws are stainless steel. In the long run this will pay off.
I have to agree with you about Brinkley. The DW and I recently had the chance to tour a Z3100 and I'll have to say it was one of the best built RV's I've ever seen. So now we are up in the air deciding if we want to purchase a Brinkley, or Montana 3231CK Legacy edition. It's a toss up 🙂
Quality lies in the eye of the beholder. If the beholder is living without ever having experienced what a 'quality' product is. Good Luck Very little pride in the build these daze.
I bought a new 2022, and it’s been a great rig so far. It’s a higher end fifth wheel. But feel the quality we received was good. Now we don’t full time and am sure those units go thru much more rigorous daily work, than ours does. I wonder though if they’re “made” for full time. I’d much prefer to pay more for a higher quality rig. Just not sure why they punch em out with cheap materials. It’s so they can do them faster and create more profit. Sometimes quality over quantity is best. I believe even Brinkley or some of these other newer manufacturers will go the same way. Just a matter of time. When GD first came out they were cream of the crop for several years. Now more and more they’re losing their value in build quality as you have experienced. They all get greedy at some point. Imo
We are getting exactly what we need ... cheap travel boxes that spend most of their lives rotting in the sun with interior mold while parked in our driveways, back yards, or storage yards. The few active users will suffer constant breakdowns thinking that these disposable boxes can provide durable living arrangements. The public is getting exactly what they need.
Niiiice honest video!!! A whole lot if truths in it too!!! Completely agree with your opinion on the mass produced cookie cutter RV’s. Did you do a factory tour at Luxe? Very impressive!!! They only produce 2 rigs per week, excellent quality, construction, components, and warranty. A bit more priceeee than the Brinkley.
Great video . I went to several RV dealers and looked . They still have 2021 and 2022 still on the lots that are junk and still asking close to MSRP . Weathered and parts robbed off of them . Same with the Automotive industry and homes .
the worst part are the prices. they are way too high for most people. then so many are just crap. falling apart at the dealers. and then again the dealers do not fix anything till after you buy it. but you now get to wait months/years as the dealers do not care about how long it takes to maybe fix it.
I bought a new Fun Finder trailer. After a few years I decided to sell it at a $9k loss. It was just crap! So many things did not work. The floor was particle board painted black, the electrical panel door fell off, the electrical outlets were badly connected and required replacement. How about a building code for RVs?
Before moving into an RV full time in late 2020- I researched for a year! Came to the same conclusion!! hence I bought a 2004 Sprinter Copper Canyon with good bones and completely redid her- all but the frame! That way I picked my window covers, flooring , my seating, my kitchen, my bed, my bench, my paint, lighting, fans -everything including new rubber roof It feels like mine and I know the quality is here and it’s exactly how I want it ! I also custom designed and built a compost toilet so I could easily be off grid - it works beautifully! Took me six months, five days a week, working with a contractor by my side that I paid -eight hours a day Monday through Friday to accomplish it Oh- I spiffed up the outside too I’m proud I did it my way - and the big money it cost my was worth it I advise it for sure! Signed, a Happy full timer gal
I understand when you say buy the "2018", but my issue is when buying a Class C (B+) I want all the newest safety items that the Ford E-450s (I plan on towing my boat or a small car so the 7,500 tow range is a must) Reason being my significant other would be more comfortable driving the truck... I figure as long as I keep the water out of the truck whether from the exterior or the plumbing i can aways upgrade the cappy cabinets ect...
I totally get that and in most cases, the Class C, B and even A have great chassis and do provide all the latest and greatest in safety and function. This issues is the RV manufacturer builds on top of those chassis and that is all crap for most of them.
Thank you for all of this information. My concern about right fit and finish is no room for flex when going down the road. Also the underlying structural integrity to me is more important than fit and finish. I have heard the RiverStone is also a good brand. I believe they are now using dovetail construction. Can you please comment on the questions I presented. Again thank you for your help.
I would buy a older one but I like lots of the newer things on the new campers like the tankless water Mine works great The Jayco app will control my entire trailer From what im seeing most of the major issues are with the Big Buck toy haulers and 5th wheels they are just simply not made to haul the load . I would never get more than a 25 ft RV and the more the RV is Towed the more leaks and stuff will break. If you buy one and set it up and never tow problems are few...
Thank You! Very informative. I agree, those that what we looked at the quality could be better for the cost. Sales always pointed the little extras, but when asked or hear us mention cheap drawers, and shelves, just ignore us. Very disheartening!
Be thankful that RV manufactures have nothing to do with aviation. 😄
Boeing's latest might as well be defective RVs.
DEI hires and news reports push me into the assumption this is dry humor.
You never know because if doors keep falling off planes it just might be the same clowns.
Thanks for sharing
sorry your family went thru that. thanks for sharing experience.
Check out Escape Trailers I’m looking at the 5.0 fifth wheel.
I wish those European RV's could be imported here. They're so minimalist and clean looking. The USA ones are so bulky, full of wood and plastic
Their motor homes have manual transmissions!

Agree with you 100%. You can’t trust any manufacturer and for sure not dealers! But as long as people keep buying them, nothing will change.
We need to send a message to the industry, don't buy the garbage they are pushing.
@@MyBucketListDay what is a better alternative for folks who want an RV?
@@jeangraceNpeace6767 As he noted, buy something used -- get it inspected, educated yourself on how to look for and repair minor things. Alternatively, go way low end. We used to go to the RV shows and look at the simple weekend pop-ups. We ended up w/ a 32' 5th wheel (!) which we used extensively during Covid. But, hearing about all the issues now I might simply scale back my expectations and go for something super simple (e.g. no slides).
@@THEsquidvicious No slides is a good idea, but very uncommon. Many RV parks refuse pop up tent trailers.
Great to hear.
I am in my 8th decade of life. As a child I recall that "made in Japan" was synonymous with lousy quality. Now it's the U.S. that has assumed that dubious reputation.
Japan was the best!! China sux!!
Since you loved your 2006 Class A many of us would appreciate your take on used RV’s. Some years were better than others for different brands.

This should be required viewing by all RV builders
RV manufacturers will continue to make the RVs people demand. If people would stop buying poor quality RVs, manufacturers who have stop building them.
Unfortunately, they all look pretty in the showroom. You have to tear it apart to see how well these guys chest. They're pros. The buyers? "Hey Rube!"
The problem is that the RVs are getting build in the U.S. Made in the USA means expensive junk. Look at the quality problems of American car makers or maybe the Airplane industry
The same problem exists in new home construction poor quality workmanship and materials
You will increase cost by 70 percent
A drug test would stop the poor workmanship. I was shocked at what I saw and what was said. My Toy hauler was a nightmare on wheels.
I want a Brinkley. Don’t have 200k though
Looked at a $500K RV, noticed the cabinets were missing screws in the hinges, shower had a loose valve, kitchen sink was missing the drain pipe under it, just said "thanks, I've seen enough" and walked away.
yep, same kind of crap I've seen
Unbelievable!!!!!😮
For 500k! we spent this much to add onto our Florida property adding an addition to the house adding a living room, new master bedroom, a pool, spa and massive summer kitchen. Investing in an appreciating asset which makes us not want to vacation anywhere except our back yard. I can’t believe some people spend this much on something that falls apart over time. You were smart to pass.
It would be nice if you would name the manufacturers had good quality. You only mentioned one.
What about Rockwood?
You are exactly correct!👍
@@timsmith8391 I have 2019 rockwood mini lite travel trailer and I've never had one issue with it. I guess I was really lucky from what im reading lol
That's why I brought a German Frankia. Mercedes reliability with Frankia build qualities
It's as important to praise the good as well as condemn the bad!
Something along the lines of a "lemon law" would go a long ways without the overhead of most forms of regulation.
@@sonictech1000 anything is better than what we have now. RV builders have run a muck to long now!
Absolutely. RV manufacturers don't follow any electrical, plumbing or structural codes, and it shows.
Well it’s not that the car industry delivers better quality product these days… you know how tight regulations are for Airplanes? Well the doors are still flying off… the problem is everything that is Made in the U.S. is expensive junk…

I would say r.v.s are built for the weekend warriors not fulltimers that put thousands of miles on in a year.
My thoughts exactly, and you see fulltimers going back blm lands or national forest fire lanes i wouldnt take a tractor on
The cr*( rv. Is what you get, regardless. How you use it- is what matters. !
Things are a little bit different in the HDT world. Truck stops are the go to parking. In NV. They have alot of wide spots for truck parking. But I'll be enjoying a 450 square foot home.and I can carry 45,000lbs of personal items. That's water 275g
1/2 cored fire wood.

Thor stopped the Guys that wanted to bring back Silver Streak. Sad. I like my 76 Silver Streak. It's staying with me for awhile. ;-)
Some good quality travel trailers to consider:
Fiberglass Travel Trailers: Bigfoot, Escape, Oliver, Northern Lite.
DRV has had its frame problems also
Mostly the 40 plus ft 3 axles. And the over loaded ones
@@kenj.8897 but they are the exception not the rule...
I guess we got lucky with our 2017 Lance 2285 trailer.
No major issues in 7 years.
Everything still works, had to reseal skylights with eternabond tape, just had to replace bolts on slide, took 30 minutes.
That's it in 7 years.
Thats because it's PRE Covid 2020.

Also pre REV buyout of Lance..
Traded it off for a Winnebago 3225RL and it truly is a
POS. So disappointed with it. On every trip, I always wondered what would 😮fail or break.
I was at the Tampa show and I completely agree with your observations and seeing what I saw confirmed my choice of the MDC camper.
Interestingly, i heard Brinkley already has a recall for suspension. Doesn't matter how pretty they are if the running gear isn't sufficient.
What triggered the recall? Good company ethics or a lawsuit? Every company will have issues but if they stand behind their product and fix it I respect it.
A self initiated recall, which is what companies are supposed to do when problems are discovered instead of making each customer fight for resolution.
I agree 100%. There shouldn't be any issues with it off the lot. That's what has to change as well.
Brinkley on Lippert frames? If so they are no better.
Way different frame. Stay tuned
So you agree, they're all junk!
I can not think of an industry that will get hit harder by the next recession than the RV sales and manufactures. They are pumping them out while they can.
Nash/OutdoorRV use alder on their cabinets when you get solid wood. A great looking wood but soft.
Cool, thanks
u r spot on correct!! I studied and studied before trading in our 2013 Montana for a 2022 Arctic Fox 28 5C . So far we have had minimal fixes.

You are so welcome
Hi there First time seeing your channel. Very good video, very informative, and this is the truth. Thank you for sharing with all of us. Let me ask you. Do you feel that airstream is doing l this? Or Are they keeping up with better quality?
Thank you for a great video!!
You hit right on the NOSE. We are in a recession and it is going to get more of a depression sooner than later. We better get Prepped up.
China bombs!
The tires are also known as Chinese bombs
So many great points. Thank you. I want Blue Ox to do my inspection.
Give them a call they will help
If you want legislation to protect the little guy, vote Democrat. Otherwise, you have created the problem you are complaining about.
@@timdunn2257 I agree.
you ar right boss. cheap. warranties, dealerships from design to lot a rip off, only bright light is alot going bankrupt, which i hope forces 3 or 4 decent builders to rise from the ashes. the cost is phenomenal for the shoddy craftsmanship and materials used. god forbid you need a warranty of a deal ship to help you out, been looking for past few years the more you learn the more discouraging it gets, a build your own probably the best way to go. older ones built well, but they put the 10 yr rule down
Agreed. It’s not only in RV’s unfortunately. Hoping it’s getting better with labor and materials soon.
I absolutely love my 2023 Alliance paradigm 385fl. 0 issues so far
Awesome!
I bought a new Pleasureway Ascent. Exceptional quality and construction.
Northwoods is the only manufacturer i buy now.. best bang for the buck in build quality
Great update 👍
The dollar speaks loud and clear, if they're not making money because sales go down, they will change.
Cheers
Thats the idea
Thanks for the information. We're waiting for the Brinkley Z Air 285.
Coming soon!
Thanks for sharing
You nailed it. Covid showed them that they could cut quality and still sell units. Unfortunately, they have now decided that they don’t want to absorb the cost of fixing the junk they are selling. I think the industry needs to be regulated.
Agree 100%, great video. Thank you.
I have never been in a Brinkley yet, however it does seem like all RV’s are made to be disposable. Unfortunately the cost of a Brinkley is out of reach for a lot of people.
Everything built these days is built to be disposable just think about it. Now disposable within 10yrs I'm not impressed.
New truck campers are upwards of $40,000. Everything new is becoming out of reach for people.
Stay tuned! they are coming out with smaller sized units. hopefully in our price range
Yep, thanks Biden
Does Brinkley use stainless steel screws? I’m doubting they do. Give it time and they will have issues. Sounds like they are still better than most but there are still areas of improvement.
I have a Northern lite truckcamper and all screws are stainless steel. In the long run this will pay off.
I have to agree with you about Brinkley. The DW and I recently had the chance to tour a Z3100 and I'll have to say it was one of the best built RV's I've ever seen. So now we are up in the air deciding if we want to purchase a Brinkley, or Montana 3231CK Legacy edition. It's a toss up 🙂
Crash zones and safety are important in a traffic accident, and also sometimes an RV needs a little love.
Quality lies in the eye of the beholder. If the beholder is living without ever having experienced what a 'quality'
product is. Good Luck
Very little pride in the build these daze.
Great video, I left RV'ing last year because of continual quality issues! No more! Thanks for the video.
Thanks for sharing!!
You need to go to Oregon and check Outdoor RV. They do it right too.
I love Brinkley, but what about smaller units? We need something a medium-sized truck can haul reliably.
Fantastic video, not buying there junk anymore. Even our 2016 5th wheel the cabinets out junk. Slides aren't much better.
I have a 2022 little guy mini max ,, it hasn’t given me any issues,, it is a very small camper though !!
They're waiting out the warranty period, like DJ Trump and his trials. Postpone, delay, and it just goes away.
Outdoors RV Makes a very nice and sturdy travel trailer I would say is superior to 99% that I’ve seen
I bought a new Fun Finder trailer. After a few years I decided to sell it at a $9k loss. It was just crap! So many things did not work. The floor was particle board painted black, the electrical panel door fell off, the electrical outlets were badly connected and required replacement. How about a building code for RVs?
ive been RVing for 2 years full time in a now 4 year old RV and its been so perfect I can't possibly complain. Guess im an oddity.
Awesome for you. I love to hear success stories.
Before moving into an RV full time in late 2020- I researched for a year! Came to the same conclusion!!
hence I bought a 2004 Sprinter Copper Canyon with good bones and completely redid her- all but the frame!
That way I picked my window covers, flooring , my seating, my kitchen, my bed, my bench, my paint, lighting, fans -everything including new rubber roof
It feels like mine and I know the quality is here and it’s exactly how I want it !
I also custom designed and built a compost toilet so I could easily be off grid - it works beautifully!
Took me six months, five days a week, working with a contractor by my side that I paid -eight hours a day Monday through Friday to accomplish it
Oh- I spiffed up the outside too
I’m proud I did it my way - and the big money it cost my was worth it
I advise it for sure!

Glad it was helpful!
