As an Uchinaanchu /native Ryukyuan decendant who practices Uta-sanshin, I am dismayed at the fact that this is labeled as a 'Japanese traditional dance' with 'Japanese lyrics'.... in fact, I'm low-key outraged.
*** This is a Classical Ryukyuan/ Okinawan Dance, sung in the old Shuri Dialect of the native language of Okinawa main island, sometimes referred to as Uchinaaguchi***. I would think a channel called Okinawa superstar would know better than to misappropriate the credit to our colonizers. This song is at least 600 years old... predating the first Japanese invasion in 1609 and could possible predate the Ryukyu Kingdom era.
This is a very important and sacred song. When i perform it, I go into a trance-like state of healing.
