We are currently clearing out our house of 24 years to downsize. Going through everything is tedious, but overall it is freeing and cathartic. We're looking forward to starting a new chapter.
Minimalism is always up for self interpretation. When it comes to the amount of objects you own, you define what this means to you. Minimalism, as a lifestyle, is about having only the things you need, use, and love (and doing only the things you need to do, are useful, and that you love doing). Minimalism is about making space for more beauty and joy in your life, not breaking your own heart to squeeze into someone else's definition. Love your vids!
I love your channel Valentina, I don’t ever recall you telling people to buy a ton of extra stuff. To each his own. Love the suggestions, and people are responsible to do what’s right for them.
I love minimalism! It's so much easy to clean and maintain a house that is clutter free. I only keep things I do need and love and doing so, I can have lots of free time in the middle because I don t have lots of stuff to manage ☺
I would like to see new creative takes on minimalism- like fusion with contrasting styles. And more scandi! Scandi incorporates some beautiful soothing colors into it. Valentina you are the best at modern Danish scandi minimalism. I loved your trips to Denmark and Morocco. Love 💕 how you incorporate these feelings into your home.
I'm with you, Valentina. I think you can be a minimalist without going overboard and taking away all the beauty of decorating. I think your home is the perfect balance.
Not quite a minimalist and I love color. But, have decluttered and downsized and decluttered some more. Yes, the sense of lightness is amazing. Thanks for thought provoking and enjoyable content! ❤
When we left Venezuela suddenly because of political issues, we had 2 weeks to get out. Although it hurt, and still does, that we left practically everything behind,I think it was an awakening to us that we really needed so little. I mostly miss my books 😂😂😂 I am not a minimalist in everything, but do love to live in a clutter free space.
I hope this new chapter in your life brings you peace and happiness and you can surround yourself again with the things you love. Hello from Australia!
Same. Moved country with only our suitcases. After 3 years we shipped a small amount of quality furniture but still have a pared back space. Too much stuff stresses me out now.
To quote Dawn Madsen of the channel The Minimal Mom, it's about choosing PEACE over POSSESSIONS, that everything we own is INVENTORY that we have to manage. I for one am DONE with managing all this stuff...
I’m all for minimal. Try it! And if you want all your clutter back you can always add the clutter back in but the more I take out the more I love the pieces that are left ❤
Interesting! For someone who gets SO EXCITED about "BIG HAULS" of Decor Items...reducing the "LOAD" could be an inevitable challenge! We all EVOLVE. My current interest...Swedish Death Cleaning!!!
I asked my daughter what she thought my decorating style was not long ago (she’s 29 and very creative) - her answer was the things you love Mum. I’m very eclectic in my interior decorating and dress style and my daughter is right - my home is filled with the things I love.
Definitely decluttering and reevaluating the purchases I'm willing to make has brought me a sense of peace. ❤❤❤ Not following all the latest trends and not visiting all the home decor stores i used to has saved me tons of money. Maybe having a smaller home makes me appreciate not having all the furniture so my space feels much more open. The neutral, earthy tones have always been my decorating style. Thanks so much for another wonderful video
Clutter free - yes, always. Lack of life, never. So many interpretations of minimalism is dreadfully uninspiring, and leaves you with no reason to stay in the room. I live clutter free but with beautiful things around me
Love minimalism - less work (cleaning, maintaining), less stress (Physical and visual clutter). However, I do like style and a little luxury. Lately I've been learning about Japandi and it seems to be the perfect blend for me: minimal yet cozy.
I’m so happy more and more people are talking about this. I grew minimal(didn’t even know it) but I found it again through the minimal mom, when I began losing my sanity 🙈 and now I preach it to the world! And I love that we can pick and choose what areas to be minimal in. It’s about having a space you LOVE and feel peace in. Not a style or number etc. thank you for sharing this! You’re on a journey and it takes time to fully get there but you will! Like Dawn says it’s like pealing an onion 🧅 there are many layers to it. But with each layer you find yourself, your style, more peace and contentment. It’s the best! 😅🥰
Changing over to neutrals has calmed me down so much and feels cohesive even though I love colour. I love it and always imagine Valentina in my head guiding me through each decision. Thank you! ❤
Totally on the same page as you Valentina. Over the last couple of years I have been one by one sorting closets and drawers all over the house. It feels wonderful to release and re-organize. Most recently I bought new dining room furniture, and in the process bagged up 8 large garbage bags of books and decor that no longer held any energy for me. This also freed up wall space, which feels so expansive. I've also pared down decor on table surfaces, and not only does it look so much better, it Feels so much better. I feel like a new woman. lol! I'm not minimal, but much closer than I was, that's for sure.
*Seasonally Minimalistic* . I enjoy seasonal re-styles in my home. I have finally nailed down three different palettes to add into my neutral base. Summer is my minimalist season. I use chambray light denim and Navy, stripes for pattern and sea grass baskets for texture. It's simple, light and airy.
I love minimalism, its my favorite!!! However I live more like you do. Let's call it "Minimalism with attitude" I love your style Valentina, keep these videos coming. You make my day 💕
This is music to my ears. Thank you Valentina. I LOVE a monochrome soft/ warm minimalistic space. My mind is just naturally focused, my heart sings and I'm spiritually restful and connected.
If copious pillows are not allowed, I want no part of it! 😂 But seriously, I am feeling the minimalism vibe myself. Being much more mindful about what I’m choosing ( and spending money on) for my spaces.
Even though you have so much decor in your home, it all flows and works together. It's so much more beautiful and cohesive than it was in the "Before" photos you've shown.
I’m in love with the colonial cottage romantic Outlander like decor on YT but after watching these amazing traditionalists painstakingly renovate I realized not only is it too costly and labor intensive to achieve but I really like waking up to a blank slate that I can write something new and creative on re: my home decor. I feel my self gravitating toward modern organic - unornamental clean and curved lines, timeless muted warm natural and heck yes, minimal. I don’t want to live in a beautiful museum with lots of stuff to dust. I’m definitely on board with minimal. Colorful minimal though. (I’m from Florida 🍊 🦩 🌺 🌅 living up north so I need some color to not get depressed).
I don’t think you’re that minimalistic, but that’s why we love your channel! Your house is stylish with exactly the right amount of items. Minimalism can feel bare and cold but maximalism can feel untidy at times. My drawers and cupboards are an extreme form of maximalism unfortunately 😂 xx
I just love the idea of becoming "more minimal." I never thought this style would appeal to me. For years, Autumn colors. Then I was bored with my home and didn't know what to do. Then, I discovered Scandi design (new to me) and loved the peaceful vibe, the airy light filled rooms and the sense of cozy. I totally agree with you regarding stuff. I am in the process of decluttering many items that I once really liked because less visual clutter is so calming and refreshing. I can't wait to hear more tips from you regarding embracing a more minimal style!
I hope that minimalism never went out of trend/style :) I have always lived in a maximalist environment however always strived for minimalist lifestyle and decor. I have grown children moving in and out… and back again lol. It makes me feel so happy that it may somehow be achievable by simple changes . Thanks so much for this video it was what I needed and possibly what so many of us wanted today :)
I agree 💯. Minimalism feels free and helps with motivation and time management. And it just feels like I have no worries that when I leave this earth, I don’t have to burden others with cleaning out my house.
Nice video, nice to see a balanced video. I don’t think minimalism ever left. I think there was an upswing in maximalist type styles in the past few years, but I don’t think many people who had been into minimalist left and came back. Always been both.
I've never understood the need to cover every surface with stuff. A coffee table with books, chatzkes, candles and other decor items completely obliterates a place to set a coffee cup, or kick your feet up, or to set anything down on that you may be using in the moment. At heart, I'm a minimalist. It is easy to accumulate way more than needed, so the struggle is real. Thank you Valentina for sharing your passions with us and allowing us to see your lifes journey in real time. It makes it ok to switch things up and constantly grow and morph into other ways to do life in all it's categories. I enjoy watching the interactions with your family and the support of one another. Keep up the beauty of life!
GREAT video!! You explain exactly WHY I am a minimalist. I've been one since the 90s, when I first encountered the work of my architectural guru, John Pawson. I have never needed stuff just to have it and I certainly don't need it impress other people and as I get older I find that I need less and less stuff. A bed, a nightstand with a reading lamp, a desk, a chair, some books, some music, my laptop, a few accessories, a few works of art or photos...that's all I need. And I need my spaces to be calming, soothing, relaxing, peaceful. A refuge from the insanity Out There. This is why I Can't Even with maximalism. Even in maximalist spaces done right, I can't exist in them because they are not calming and soothing. I cannot RELAX in maximalist spaces. And maximalism done wrong is just...visual diarrhea, visual chaos. I've been seeing this a lot in the shelter mags and in vids of designer showhouses for a couple of years now and, again, I can't even. Maximalist space make my eyes hurt and increase my blood pressure. Anyway, I also love your style! And thanks again for a quick, succinct primer on minimalism not only as design style but as a philosophy or way of living. Two thumbs up! 😁
Baby steps, you have already started. I love the adjectives you expressed in becoming more minimalistic. Freedom 😊. We are moving into a brand new home in a few months, and absolutely need new furniture. (coming from an apartment). Figuring out my style…knowing I want cozy, approachable, easy to keep up with.
I am definitely a minimal, clean lines kind of person in my home and in fashion! Light on the print. Love accentuating architectural shapes of the home with minimal decor (which is oftentimes houseplants). And I love adding texture. I need my living space to be calm, effortless, relaxed but yet elegant. And that just translates for me into warm minimalistic style! ❤ Thx for this video I would be a major fan of more minimalism videos, especially warm modern organic minimalism 🤩
When I got rid of lots of old furniture I enjoyed the minimalism for a little while. It did feel fresh but after a bit it just felt characterless. Like there was no me in my space.
I have never had that many decor items. My mom and grandmother liked to collect something, and that led to people giving them some item for their collection, which grew even more. I like minimal or slightly moderate decor. My style is functional but has a style I enjoy. Just don't look in my basement. Having children who are now adults means not just my stuff, not just my husband's small amount of stuff but stuff from those adult children who have their own places. I have been thinking at 63 that I need to tackle sections starting with my daughter's 18 inch doll collection and the art my other daughter left behind. Thanks for the reminder about minimalism!
I Binge watched your videos for first time this weekend and your style spoke to me. I love beautiful also functional decor and I thought it is very expensive to achieve this but you made it simple and affordable to attain it.
I always feel free when I reassess what I have accumulated over the past few months and pare everything back to having minimal decor out at the moment. It's also nice to rotate the decor periodically and make everything feel new again. I find when all my favorite pieces are out at the same time I don't appreciate each piece for what it is!
The minimalist home is the most hardest to achieve with all the options out there. to me less looks more expensive. I will never go back to filling every wall and every surface with something.
Good architecture is focused on architectural detail. Minimalism is generally seen in high-end design, as this allows the beautiful architectural detail to shine. Remember, less is more.
I have always been a minimalist and always will be. I have OCD and everything is immaculate and organized from closets and draws, otherwise I cannot function.
Cottagecore and grandmacore/coastal are definitely more predominant in North America IMO. Here in Europe minimalism has definitely never left! I like minimalism and decluttering. It is good for the soul 😀. I went through several drawers this week myself. I think it’s an ongoing thing. Yes, some parts of the house ( my pantry) are more challenging for me too. Really enjoy your videos- and that minimalistic top you’re wearing!😂. You rock it!😊
I'm digging down to your core ideas for my education on what to do about problem decorating. Saves a lot of reading and watching time. The problem solving that I glean from your videos are helping me. I have all the problems. Lots of similar advice around, but I like your taste, so I come to your show. Min for me would be like jeans, where the homey part (minimal undergurding, tones and shades) sets off everything else like some museums do. Love your ways. Seldom comment, but just now there is time.
I share your desire for many clothes to choose from. I love everything I have and continue to go back and mix different things together. It never gets old. Unlike most designers I have different rooms that reflect different aspects of my esthetic. My bedroom is French/Gustavian, my kitchen kind of Swedish country, my den earthy, ethnic Southwest and my living room CA contemporary. I love to walk in each room.
Love it! Just need to keep my personality, and no, all white is not going to cut it. I think you are a good example of having done it right! Thanks for the inspiration, Valentina!
I use a lot of colour, I have wallpaper, but I hate clutter. To live in my home you not only have to look good but have a function or some sentimental value. I don’t need extra unnecessary cr@p to keep clean or donate to landfill. Space clearing is important but how will you cope without your ceramic bowls filled with moss? 😁
I think a point you made really struck a cord with me. Peace and calm. My husband collects things and I don’t mean a collection. He just always has piles of stuff. On the counter, on the floor, on his desk, on a shelf., in a drawer, in the garage. What is all of this? Does he even know? It gives me anxiety being surrounded by it! For me, I enjoy neutral colors and a calm, cozy space. I think of curling up with a book and a luxurious throw in a cozy chair or plush sofa with a cup of coffee. I don’t want to see a mess everywhere I look.
I love your style (even though it is very different than mine) but I don't see anything minimal about it. Decor for your closet is one of the most anti-minimal things I can think of. No shame in having and loving your things.
That is where I am heading. Not true minimal but I am getting rid of things left and right. I plan to take everything out of my living room decor wise and start again
I love minimalist style. However, I am Afro-Bohemian style in a 550 square foot apartment. I have lots of neutral pillows on my black sectional. Tan walls, where I display my masks and many pictures. I cannot cutback, but I can not add either.😢
You are not minimalistic. Your decor is great but I was just thinking that your coffee table was getting a bit over done. Glad to see it pared back a bit. 😊 I am a minimalistic at heart but thanks to watching you I keep finding things I "need". 💕
It's a lifestyle, Not a trend. it's anti-consumption, it's peaceful, it's money. The stuff that belongs in your home is curated quality and serves you. If in doubt throw it out. 1. You have to love it 2. It serves a purpose. 3. It's quality. Small homes = maximum utility ❤
I think a modern minimalist design would lean towards Wabi Sabi with an organic “Flintstone’s” vibe (lime wash walls?)… add in user friendly state-of-the art kitchen appliances, whole house smart tech controls for energy efficiency, etc. Prioritizing functionality seems key with organic finishes.
Is there a way to have a little more than minimalism? I love the Inso pictures that you have used for minimalism... My brain appreciates the calmness... I need it psychologically... but I also like more. Is that me just cluttering the clean space? Is there a happy medium?
Minimalism is the most expensive interior design. Think about how much work needed to create seamless sleek look, communications, wires have to be hidden. Seamless invisible doors to allow access to communications have to be thought about.
The bar for minimalism is high, in that you have to edit down and make decisions about all your stuff. It’s easier to move and start with it than to implement it once you settled in. Also, most people don’t have interesting architecture. They live in newer housing that is rather boring and small. It just ends up looking like your moving in/out. Minimalism looks best in big, broad, interesting spaces. Which most people _don’t_ have.
I think if you are going to attempt this style in a new build, with minimum architectural details, use an interesting color palette, and color drench the space, continue that feel with the same or similar color scheme through the whole house or apartment.
Except for the library in my house, I’m minimalist. I am constantly donating things to a worthy charity shop, and buy antiques & midcentury decor from estate sales, not new from Amazon. This is day two of not having any nightstands in the main bedroom. I realized they were not necessary. If the lamps and the iphone are across the room, that’s just fine.
We are downsizing from our 3200 sq ft family home to an 1800 sq ft home, and I have gotten rid of, literally, half of my stuff which is so freeing! I’m ready for a simpler decor life. Also, I rarely have luck on Facebook Marketplace, I get a lot of scammers. 🤨
Hi Valantina, I just want to tell you that you are awesome ❤️I follow your recommendations closed eyes. Thank you! Can you make a video on the newest rugs style and how we can match it with furniture. Thank you! شكرا ❤
Trying to live fairly minimalist over here, but trying to figure out how to deal with items left behind by loved ones who have passed on. Any suggestions for non sentimental items like glassware, vases and knickknacks and how to deal with family members that may be upset for letting some things go?
I have a minimalist style. I don’t want to see too much all at once. Less is more for sure and so easy to clean. Lastly less stuff is peaceful and make the space appear larger.
I’m still analyzing what my clutter threshold is. I know what type of organiser I am so I can do what works for me. I’ve been decluttering for about 6-7yrs now and my lower calves and feet always feel lighter afterwards. I’m taking organising my home slowly but surely and it’s so fun. I’m not bringing in anything I don’t love or isn’t functional. Even after not living with a hoarder for 18 months, I’m still not used to having empty space but am appreciating the change in finally seeing my house as a home with personality.
I love the idea of minimalism and would love to have it in my home, but my husband, who I love very much is someone who loves his things and ends up, cluttering them everywhere
it really didnt go away, i think americans in particular do so much retail therapy to fill up the holes in our lives that we don't even realize it. i caught myself bored the other day, i have so much of my business to rebuild but i am struggling. instead of doing that i was just being "bored" and was going to jump on line to shop. so we use it as avoidance. instead of cleaning out a draw when i want to avoid something or just digging down to why. Just think everyone has been self medicating and now that the seasons are changing/changed they want to lighten up the load again. at least that is my thoughts. :-) great video declutting is a huge help to moving forward and letting go and your mental health.
Talk about clutter !!! In my house, the men (hubby & son) are the hoarders … I can’t wait to get rid of the unwanted/ unnecessary stuff sitting around…..such a waste!
I hate clutter, but gosh, I love STUFF
YES!
Me too!
I hate clutter, but love shopping 😂 which creates clutter
Ha!!!
Same😂
Trend following is expensive .
Loving what you have is priceless.
So well said 🎉
My question is do you Really Loving what you have?
Success is getting what you want.
Happiness is wanting what you get. - Andrew Carnegie
We are currently clearing out our house of 24 years to downsize. Going through everything is tedious, but overall it is freeing and cathartic. We're looking forward to starting a new chapter.
Extremely well said! A calm, clean space filled with only beautiful things that make you feel relaxed is so important to your mental health! 😍🥰
Minimalism is always up for self interpretation. When it comes to the amount of objects you own, you define what this means to you. Minimalism, as a lifestyle, is about having only the things you need, use, and love (and doing only the things you need to do, are useful, and that you love doing). Oooh YES. 🤗
I’m so glad many are on board with this…..because I’m not a minimalist and I’m looking for better stuff on Marketplace 😂.
🤣
Yes ma’am, I agree and I love shopping with Valentina!!
😂
Lol
I love your channel Valentina, I don’t ever recall you telling people to buy a ton of extra stuff. To each his own. Love the suggestions, and people are responsible to do what’s right for them.

Traditional, quality, sustainable and tell your own story is what I keep seeing in high end magazines. Love your channel! You have fabulous taste!
Minimalism has been my life style for years! It’s the best!
Welcome to the minimalist home decor world! I’ve been hoping and waiting for you! 👏🏻🥰😍

Not quite a minimalist and I love color. But, have decluttered and downsized and decluttered some more. Yes, the sense of lightness is amazing. Thanks for thought provoking and enjoyable content! ❤

I asked my daughter what she thought my decorating style was not long ago (she’s 29 and very creative) - her answer was the things you love Mum. I’m very eclectic in my interior decorating and dress style and my daughter is right - my home is filled with the things I love.

I didnt realize this trend had gone away and now its back! 😮
the problem with this 'trend' is that it doesn't encourage you to buy anything. So it's hard to market.

Love that!
Love the way you remodeled. Yes minimalism. Decluttering si so freeing.
I agree. Rotating what you have, while storing out of sight what isn't being used at the moment, is the best of both worlds.
You have more stuff than anyone I know. You are forever bringing new stuff into your home.
Ive always wondered where she puts it all, storage?
And big money wasting!

@gabriellagrace4734 Remember, she styles people's homes for a living. She has a storage unit.
Guys, this is her job and passion. God bless her and her beautiful family.

That's clever!
Thanks Valentina ,im in the middle of decluttering and i appreciate😊this video upload🌄
You're so welcome!
That is so true, calm comes with a lack of clutter.
It feels great to Let It Go-meaning boxes of personal items have served their purpose. Love Less is More.
Yaaass this is my jam
I love minimalist style. However, I am Afro-Bohemian style in a 550 square foot apartment. I have lots of neutral pillows on my black sectional. Tan walls, where I display my masks and many pictures. I cannot cutback, but I can not add either.😢
Thx V!!! I can relate to just about anything.
You are not minimalistic. Your decor is great but I was just thinking that your coffee table was getting a bit over done. Glad to see it pared back a bit. 😊 I am a minimalistic at heart but thanks to watching you I keep finding things I "need".
💕
At different stage of life, as we get more mature we tend to simplify and minimize.
It's a lifestyle, Not a trend. it's anti-consumption, it's peaceful, it's money. The stuff that belongs in your home is curated quality and serves you. If in doubt throw it out.
1. You have to love it
« Easy to maintain » is my mantra !
Hi V, I don't like clutter. When it comes to clothes, if I haven't worn it in a year. I give it away.
This was so inspiring, V!!! ❤
Minimalism is the most expensive interior design. Think about how much work needed to create seamless sleek look, communications, wires have to be hidden. Seamless invisible doors to allow access to communications have to be thought about.
Not expensive at all to hide wires and declutter actually Lol
I don’t really like minimum things in my house 🙁
I love when things hugging me
Ha, love that!
I love minimalist it works for me
We are downsizing from our 3200 sq ft family home to an 1800 sq ft home, and I have gotten rid of, literally, half of my stuff which is so freeing!
Thank you! شكرا ❤
I love your style.
Thank you!
Trying to live fairly minimalist over here, but trying to figure out how to deal with items left behind by loved ones who have passed on. Any suggestions for non sentimental items like glassware, vases and knickknacks and how to deal with family members that may be upset for letting some things go?
Having less clutter starts with buying less stuff! Fewer hauls, more curation.
I’m not that big of a fan of minimalism, but I strive for it in order to control my maximalist tendencies.
I also have a problem with BOOKS. Giving one away would be like giving one of my children away.Almost impossible!
Started watching and enjoying your channel recently and was wondering what you would call your decorating style
It’s an eternal battle! To be or not to be minimal… it’s so difficult!
Amen!
I love the idea of minimalism and would love to have it in my home, but my husband, who I love very much is someone who loves his things and ends up, cluttering them everywhere
Mine too!
it really didnt go away, i think americans in particular do so much retail therapy to fill up the holes in our lives that we don't even realize it. i caught myself bored the other day, i have so much of my business to rebuild but i am struggling. instead of doing that i was just being "bored" and was going to jump on line to shop. so we use it as avoidance. instead of cleaning out a draw when i want to avoid something or just digging down to why.
