Asalamu'alaik Emma..may Allah heal your difficulties in this life. I'm someone who has been deaf since childhood(5year old) I've been wearing a 'hearing aid' in both ears..half my life(still am) I've also been told to try ESL(English sign..,) but I can communicate normal so theirs no need..I don't believe you need ASL..just 'hearing aids' Sign language is for the extremely deaf..and for people who know sign language already..if you're going to talk to normal people..and they won't know ASL...then it will be a waste of time learning ASL.
