Also another tipi to soften or clean your yarn if it’s smelly. You can place your ball in a knee high panty hose. Tie the end wash on delicate or hand wash and place in the dryer still in the panty hose sack and dry on low or air cycle. Your yarn won’t tangle. Trick s be sure you tie the end of the panty hose securely..
I often just wash the item in warm or hot water with a vinegar rinse and put it in the dryer. The article needs to be washed anyways. Especially if it’s granny squares I’m making for blanket donations. The vinegar does not have an odour used in the rinse cycle. If I have to block the item I wash it in warm or hot water with fabric softener in the final rinse and lay it out on my spare bed and pin it into shape. I tend to use the less expensive yarn for charitable items but I always soften them before donating. Occasionally I use hair conditioner it works really well. I was told that the less expensive yarn has a sizing on it so that it won’t get tangled on the manufactures winding machinery into balls .
I recycle yarn and crochet blankets from the thrift stores saves money on yarn. I just found a free beautiful good condition crochet blankets 2 of them at the thrift store. Free yarn but its seems to made with red heart. Which I hate, it's so scratchy, so it needs soften. I will either rip it and use the yarn for something else or I will add to it like a border or make appliques to sew onto the blanket. There is know reason to let free yarn go to waste. You can get crochet or knit blankets from thrift store for cheap. O I dont sell they are either given as gifts or my personal collection, but it's a great way to practice boarders and crochet appliques without have to do a huge project first.
What about using fabric softener? I’ve also see people say they’ve washed a skein by putting it into a nylon knee-hi and tying a knot in the end. I haven’t tried this - just wondering if you have.
It depends on how you attach your poms. If they are snap on, I would just remove it before softening the yarn. Rule of thumb for me is never submerge your pom poms (they can trap moisture inside and become musty or mildew ridden) so if you can remove it you are good to go. If not, I recommend softening the yarn before attaching the pom. I hope this helps!

How do you make the skein of yarn into a hank?
I don't have a video up yet, but that is coming this month!
This was helpful, thank you!
Wow what a difference. When you wear it does it feel like softer yarn?
Going to try this on some spun wool and see.
Can this be done on crochet items as they tend to be looser than knit?
Could the conditioner method work on any conditioner? Also could u use this method on Impeccable yarn?
I don't see why not! As long as its not like a super brightly dyed conditioner. I wouldn't use a purple conditioner on white yarn if that makes sense.
@@HappilyHookedMagazine okay thank u!
@@itslynn9375 Of course! It's what I am here for!

That SHOULD work, but I have had it only soften the outside and not the core of the skein before too.
I tried that with fabric softener. It just made the outside soft,
the inside was still scratchy.
I think that sounds like a great idea! Thank you! =)
Should you do the softening before addin a Pom Pom?

West Yorkshire spinners are good
Do you not worry about your colors running in the hot water?
That’s why they said to read what the yarn says so u use the right temp
Music is annoying.
This is an older video so the music isn't in any of the newer ones where I am speaking. 💜
I didn't even notice the music
