Great video and I only want to caution others on a few points shown here. 1. Using adjustable tool-maker/pattern calipers can be very dangerous because the locking mech only keeps the arms from moving outward. Any pressure inward can potentially release the footing of the modified ends out of the keyed barrel's notches and risk a violent scratch upon the outer lens surface. This is why normal lens spanners lock completely. 2. The use of acetone, though works probably faster than most other solvents, it's very strong and can remove paint, anodizing of AL and worse, lens coatings. Best to use white gas, lighter fluid, or even 91% AL and apply with a fine hobby painters brush instead of a broad tipped cotton swab. The brush carries the solvent and when applied at the crease/crack of threading you can actually observe the wicking of the solvent into the area it's needed most. Again, great video and thank you.

Thank you! I've just successfully disassembled, cleaned and reassembled a lens for the first time. This video was a great help. Cheers!

I have this lens, it was my father's before he passed away... now 20 years later I found it again and the lens is now much older then I am, approaching a 50 year old optic. It has some haze and a fair amount of dust, but not much fungus. I am awaiting some rubber stopper tools and a spanner tool and I will attempt to clean this lens out and keep it dust and fungus free and hopefully it can still be pristine in another 50 years!. I love your channel as it teaches me so much about lens disassembly. I recently cleaned out a old Minolta 16mm fish-eye as the elements and the built in filters were in bad shape, the lens is now in great shape and is a lot cleaner than it used to be!

For those of you googling this tool in the US look for "Spanner", it sounds like he said "Spinner". Amz has several.

Can't imagine lighter fluid being very good for any multi coating on the lens.

There is no problem with the coating, it's much harder than you think it is, also many other professional repair people just like me, use lighter fluid, but also Acetone and Isopropylalcohol 99% and Methanol ("Eclipse" sensor cleaner) , but also other effective solvent's is in use when cleaning lens element's. Of course there are also lenses where the coating is more soft, and good care must be taken.
But the lens tissue is also very important, I use the "PEC-PAD*" that work really good, but ONLY when use with some solvent, just like Lighter Fluid, Acetone, "Eclipse" Methanol, Hydrogenperoxid.
Xylen (Xylol, Xylone) is a stronger solvent so take good care when use that!
