I’ve actually got a Tudor P39 and I must say this is a fantastic quality homage and very close to the real thing. As usual it has a 120 click bezel but the real thing is 60 (just checked). The hour markers are applied and it looks like they are on this one too. As you pointed out, the clasp is the weak point and it will be steel - but the new SM clasp with on the go micro adjust may fit (still won’t be titanium of course).
Great review and a great looking watch homaging a lovely piece. If I was a betting man I would say this steals the show from the SM and the Seestern so look forward to tuning in from the shootout.
Now I'm going to have to go look at my clasp on this one. I chose the Octopus over the Seeturn as the finishing looked better to me. Look forward to the showdown.
Great review as always, John! Good spot on the SS clasp, I completely missed that in my review. Can’t wait for your Pelagos 39 showdown video. I’ll be in the 🐙 corner.
So far, so good! This is the best-looking P39 homage so far! Your little sidekick didn't care? Looking forward to the comparison video! I just received a different Octopus Kraken watch, and I'm very happy with it!
Agreed. Unlike other AliExpress brand logos, that "Octopus Kraken" logo actually looks like it was made by a real designer. I like it. ...even though the middle "O" kinds of looks like a certain hole... 😂
Nice review John. The Octopus Kraken looks to be well finished with solid specs. I think the final showdown will be a close call with the Seestern- I will patiently wait. Thank you
Great review of the watch. I have the Octopus and really love it. Chose it over the Seestern due to its smaller lug-to-lug and case height. Fits my 6.75 in wrist perfectly. Fit and finish are excellent on par with other San Martin watches I own. Light weight makes it a pleasure to wear. Accuracy of PT5000 surprised me. Spot on to -1 second per day for a week of wear. Hope the movement proves to be reliable over the long term. Looking forward to your 3 way comparison. I think all 3 companies make great watches.
Thank you John! The world needed to know this. The O39 is an incredible little watch for the money. It's taken a main spot in my rotation (over fairly expensive swiss competition) and I've had it for over a month now. Zero scratches (must be coated with something resistant) and +2s/day for the PT5000 is amazing, how is yours running?
Thank you John!! My dilemma is solved! Octopus for the win! I’m a fairly new subscriber and I think your reviews are fantastic! Keep up the good work, looking forward to the face off, and happy holidays to you!
Glad to see this one, thanks, John! I love my Oct-10....it has ruled my wrist for over a month now (much to the chagrin of my other dozen or so watches, including my Rolex), and I'm still impressed. I quickly fell in love with the lightness of the titanium, the size, the looks, the quality, lume, etc. All fantastically done. I'm pretty sure the AR is blue, which I actually prefer. And yeah, I also suspected the clasp was stainless steel. If they wanna make this one stone cold perfect, all it needs is an on-the-fly adjustable clasp such as the new one from San Martin (in Titanium, plz). Looking forward to the bid comparo of the three 'Pelagos 'contenders'!
Hi Dayne. Glad you are enjoying the series. I have literally just finished shooting the showdown in the last few minutes. All the production work still to do yet now I know who the winner is. For info...I did not know myself until I totted up the scores! Won't give anything away but expect the upload on Monday evening ;)
If I could combine the finishing on the San Martin, the lume in the Seestern and the bracelet on the Octopus that would be my perfect watch lol. Great review, cant wait for the 3 watch comparison video
Lovely watch! Was wondering about this one. Lovely size and movements. Might be my next buy. Probably next year D.V.. Looking forward to the final judgment between the three. Never mind the clasp being stainless steel as long as its that good!
@@johnswatchjoint if they called it the OCTO or something it would have a better ring to it imo, it just screams mushroom brand for some reason. Like naming a watch “winner” or “toaster”
Thanks for this review, very thorough, you’ve shown this watch off beautifully. Just been to Goldsmiths this afternoon and had a play with the Tudor 39, what a great timepiece! I am really tempted with this Octopus and think I might give it a punt to see if it is as good. I don’t think I can run £3850 past my better half 😂
This Kraken looks cracken. Great review. The branding on this is the only thing thats putting me off. I just saw that Ipose came out with their version (the X02T) for about the same price, would be interested how this and that compare. They look almost exact (wonder if they are). It really is amazing just how good these homages are getting for a fraction of the cost.
Very decent review! It's such a nice looking watch it might be worth opting for the SW movement. Circa £330 for a titanium, Swiss movement diver that looks this good. Try getting that with Tag, Oris etc.
Great review as always. I think a B Roll of Molly terrorizing a pigeon would have been entertaining. Yeah I think in a three way shootout the 🐙 takes it.
Fantastic review, John, much appreciated, mate. Looking forward to the overall comparison of these homages. I purchased the one made by SM. I did so, because I don't really care for titanium, don't like the darker tone of the metal, and lightness in weight, I prefer 316L. Also, I tend to prefer the NH35 over the PT5000 eventhough I have a watch with the PT5000 and runs extremely well. Thank you again, and have a wonderful Sunday.
After watching a number of reviews I came to the conclusion that the Octopus homage was the best. Brilliant spot on the clasp but to be expected to keep costs down. Really interested to see if you pick the Octopus Kraken overall.
@@johnswatchjoint gotcha! Very nice video! I'll have to wait for the next sale. It's just about sold out anyway. I have my (excellently executed) Tactical Frog FXD V3 to tide me over in the meantime 🙂
On the 3rd to 4th minute in the bezel's ceramic there is a dent or something is wrong with it. There is deformation like a flat spot on the edge of the ceramic. Unless you have hit it and became like that.
It’s just a little bit of dirt or something between the insert edge and the metal bezel. It’s happened to my watches, you can clean it out easily with alcohol on a toothpick or q-tip
Anyone have any experience with the Octopus Coin Bezel pilots watch? I'm really drawn to the red one, I actually like the dial better than the Oris it's based on.
Alright John now you got me looking at them now i wasn't sure about them when I've seen them i just wrote them off as a cheap homage now i regret not getting one
Unfortunately no as I cannot keep every watch I buy in for review. My Pelagos watch of choice was the Seestern which I wore for a few months. When the replacement clasp was fitted it was excellent. This was also a decent watch and there were a few stylistic differences between them all. Check out my Pelagos face off reviews.
Yeah ceramic is one of the harder materials on earth next to rare stones etc. I have a $70 Bliger with PT5000 and ceramic bezel I wear everyday and it’s not got a mark on it. It’s really hard to scuff ceramic up but not impossible. It would have to be something that’s harder… again a Diamond or something along those lines
You're right! Totally unacceptable. Also, unforgivable that the crown isn't titanium, nor the hands, nor the hour markers. Though of course you're always looking at the clasp so that's the worst. Such a shame as that stainless clasp completely ruins the whole aesthetic and makes the watch totally unusable.
I am really enjoying this series, John. These are all striking watches, which is not really surprising as they homage such an iconic piece. Looking forward to the final showdown! Thanks for going to so much trouble.😊

Nice review! I went with the Seestern version, mainly because I just don't like "Octopus" on the dial. The quality of these watches is great.
I went with the Seestern too...it just did it for me Vs the others ;)
Very nice, out of the three this one seems to be taking the lead....🏴⌚🏴⌚

@@johnswatchjoint D'oh. Been at the country cabin too long and too much to catch up on
how long are the center links on the bracelet?

Sorry my friend. This is my first experience with the brand.
Well spotted on the stainless clasp John.
Cheers Steve. Really makes no difference operationally as it has been very well disguised!

Sorry bud. Just completed the raw video so all the finishing to do. Should be up tomorrow evening UK time.;)
Thats nice. I went for the San Martin as it was dirt cheap! Absolutely love it but this looks like a better homage
They are all good but each have different strengths and weaknesses :)
@@johnswatchjoint yeh seestern is still king. And the San Martin I was referring to is the sn0111-g-b. Really nice 👌

They are already out of stock since last Saturday. My order was cancelled 😢
Yeah it is unfortunate, that's why I'm left a couple of links. They are proving very popular.

Its a shame that all the stores appear to be out of stock at the moment for the bracelet version 😢
Unfortunate but they will restock.
Is it all scratched by now?
I had it for a few months and it was fine.
The thing that worries me the most on these cheaper titanium watches is the crown interface
They seem to be fine .
@@johnswatchjointdoes that mean the threads are steel on steel, steel on ti, or ti on ti?
The steel clasp is a big miss for a watch claiming to be titanium. If they did mention it, then it would not be an issue but they did not.
Shame you feel that way as it is very well done and don't see it as an issue
These Octopus Kraken 'Pelagos' watches should be standard issue to Spectre agents....
Haha....I agree 💯
If only the Bracelet was Titanium like the Tudor. Otherwise it's like the Titan Sun, 2 different materials wed to each other, which is incongruent.

Sorry but I am on holiday and have limited coverage. It is just a case of waiting on restocks...they are very popular!
