Well in those far off innocent days most of the young British public at least would not have connected what John was doing with drugs (very naive) of course later years make us all only too aware of drug taking and the damage it does to so many lives and not just the users themselves. This is not a criticism of John's play acting. Although more knowledgeable he was just as much caught up in the relatively simple view of life back then before everything became far more serious.
