Robin Miller's Tough Guys: Bobby Unser

- He's tough guy, a model no longer in production and one of the most opinionated and entertaining characters to ever sit in a race car. But Bobby Unser was also one of the bravest, fastest and most aggressive racers to ever lap the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
As a three-time Indy winner and one of only two drivers to triumph in three different decades at IMS, Unser became a household name in 1968 when he bested the turbines. His second win was the only one Dan Gurney ever got and his third came for Roger Penske is a car he developed.
Following his driving career, Unser became the straw that stirred the drink in the ABC television booth as he schooled the viewers right along with Paul Page and Sam Posey.
Now 82 (he turns 83 next month), Uncle Bobby doesn't walk real well but his vocal cords are strong as ever -- just like his opinions -- and RACER's Robin Miller gives us a little history of this American treasure in today's Tough Guys series. - ยานยนต์และพาหนะ

Boy you are hundred percent right about Bobby Unser . I loved him ....
I was at that Vintage Car day at the Speedway this past summer and sitting there underneath the stands was that incredibly beautiful 1972 Gurney Eagle that obliterated so many track records. I look to the right of it and there sits Uncle Bobby with this shit eating grin on his face. I told Uncle Bobby about the day I saw him run that car and his eyes just lit up! He is just as enthusiastic about that car today as he was when he ran it. He'll get up and tell you about the secrets they put into that car to make it so fast. It was simply incredible for me to be standing there with a 3 time winner and legend and have him show this car that was so revered with him driving it.
Oh I love listening to Uncle Bobby. I wouldn't mind sitting in a room with some popcorn with Uncle Bobby just listening to stories of the past from his mouth.

Robin, wether you know it or not you are a American treasure.the way you talk about the racers on your channel is second to none. Your ,"Uncle Bobby" impersonation is spot on. The turkey story is classic. And the fact you were at Indy when Indy was the ultimate. You knew many many legends of the day. You make every driver the best there was with the way you tell it. I love these stories, wish they could all be strung together for a documentary. Remember the Unser's racing for sure. Them days, when Wide World of Sports would put a race on? Just-The-Best!

Uncle Bobby was our mom's very favorite driver as a little kid. She still has posters and placemats from then and won't part with them. :)

The Uncle Bobby turkey story is probably one of the most hilarious things I have ever heard..
LOL, Bobby Unser on TV doing the races with Posey all those years and hearing "No, Sam, that isn't quite right" or "No, Sam, that's wrong", then one year in the Indy 500, don't remember exactly what it was or what year, but think it was the year when Little Al won when Jeff Andretti had his bad crash and Michael Andretti blew up at the end. Again, don't remember exactly what it was, think maybe Uncle Bobby got it wrong when he said what chassis Little Al was running in the Galles car, and Sam finally got to say, "No, Bobby, you got it wrong" because the Galles team was running a different chassis then they had been running all year. LOL. But Uncle Bobby didn't give Sam any real satisfaction in correcting him, shrugging it off by saying, "That's right, Sam" and going on to something else. Not exact quotes, of course, but something like that. Then, tragic circumstances, so not funny, but was watching the 73 race here on TH-cam, and after Swede Savage's crash, they're talking to different drivers and they're all saying how bad the track was, with oil and grease all over the place, then they talk to Uncle Bobby, and of course he has to go against everybody else. "No, it's fine. The track's in good condition. Of course there's going to be oil on the track during any race, but there's nothing wrong with track conditions." Watching that race after all these years, I said to myself, "That's Bobby Unser."
