I really liked your recommendations ! You always bring books that i never heard of and i love that . I really appreciate your authenticity. I was actually bored to see the same 10 books recommended by readers on instagram over and over again !! Thank you
yay! the sponsorship is so so deserved 💐 also the outfit looks fantastic as always (booktuber and fashion icon who would've thought). two of my favorite books that i read on february were actually recommended by you on your january recap! “the seas” and “the bluest eye”; i absolutely adore them and even though i read them in spanish, i didn't get lost in translation and i enjoyed every second of them. so, thank u as always beautiful ana 💖
white teeth is so so so SO funny. the scene at the Chalfen’s dinner table with Millat and Irie fully shocked by Joyce is the hardest I’ve ever laughed at a book
The way you feel about Plainsong is how I feel about Niall Williams's This is Happiness - love a good, good book that will make ya cry and love life at the same time!
BOMC! Gurl! So proud you make me, baby! You read everything I wish I had. Little Cody - Oh my God, FULL TIME thang raising a pupster. Thank you for your peerless work here, all humor aside. The best! ❤❤❤❤
Sorrow and Bliss was one of my best reads last year. And despite the seemingly sad premise it felt entirely cozy in its telling, somehow. I loved it so much!
White Teeth 😭😭😭😭😭 The way I screamed out loud when you pulled up that book! Zadie Smith is one of my favourite writers, truly. Top five, maybe even top three. I loveeeee this book. I never wanted it to end, but I thought the ending was hilarious and brilliant. If you have not read On Beauty (same author), please, please do! If you felt like you wanted or needed more White Teeth...On Beauty. Also a saga, also brilliantly nuanced characters, dynamics, etc.
I honestly think she's becoming one of my role models. I love how she thinks and presents herself. I NEVER wanted WT to end. I got totally swept up. Noted on On Beauty--ready to get deep into her work
What a fab video that was! 👏Thank you for recommending "Sorrow and Bliss". I have been seeing it on my audio book recommendations for dayyys but was unsure if it was worth the listen(gotta say... also bc of the cover). However, after hearing your recommendation, I think I'm going to dive into it! The content and your personality make your channel an absolute joy to watch, a true breath of fresh air xx
Let me know how the reading experience goes! The audiobook was great--I love an English reader. Makes everything feel so posh. Thanks for being here :-)))
Screamed when I saw the sponsorship! Happy for you!! So many great reads last month! I need people to stop recommending King (AKA Sting) novels because I've tried to break up with him so many times.
I'm just in awe of how good you described what the first book is about. I paused the video to comment this. On with the video now. (Also the looks are immaculate)
Congrats Ana! I think you are really creative artist. I discovered you 4-5 days ago I guess and when I watch your contents, I see something something very unique in way that makes me want to read more. This channel is too underrated.
Wow, this really made me smile. Thank you. It brings me so much joy to put these videos together, so when I see people genuinely enjoying themselves while watching, it's the greatest feeling.
Can't wait for the road trip video! I mentioned the blue and pink sky to my niece on the phone a few weeks ago and it made her think of Maida's Little Shop by Inez Haynes Irwin. I spent the weekend with her (I took her to see Lizz Wright on Mountain Stage!) and she had the book out for me to read. It's all about a little girl, Maida, who's been ill. Maida's better but has lost the joy of living. Her father is very rich and gives her whatever he thinks she wants. He is finally advised that Maida doesn't need more things. She needs something to do. She expresses delight at a little shop that sells candies and things so he buys it for her to run and so far, she seems to have perked up. It's a sweet little thing and a nice break from the dragons and zombie princes I seem to crave lately. I really want to pick up White Teeth. Thanks for so many wonderful recs!
Oh wow, I love the idea of that book. Really is so nice you're constantly reading to your niece. I still remember all the books read to me as a child and it truly is what reinforced my love for books now. It matters!!
06:01 Oh, I did literally not notice what book this was until you said it was written for young readers. I listened to the audio book of it in it's original german version when I was like 11 years old and it made me get really interested in history. So nice to see that you enjoyed it. :)
Queen Ana. The only person I would sit through a BOTM ad for without skipping..I have the arc of Pineapple Street - can't wait to hear your thoughts. x
So wild there are sequels. I wonder if I'll pick them up. Kind of loved where Plainsong left off at. Would be interested to hear what you have to say if you read them!
Thank you Ana for reminding me to pick up Sorrow and Bliss because I started reading it a few years ago but I just didn't continue..cut to me being few chapters in and enjoying it and continuing to watch the rest of your video!
One of my favorite reads of the year will definitely be house of the spirits! Check the trigger warnings though cause there’s some casual mentioning of heavy topics. But the writing is undeniably beautiful, it just sucks you in. I have to come up for air from that book 😆 highly recommend to anyone who loves magical realism and hasn’t checked it out yet!
you should read something by vonnegut ( god bless you mr. rosewater is my fave) this is pleasure by mary gaitskill and definitely pick up something by irvine welsh love your contents
love Vonnegut! Slaugherhouse 5 used to be one of my favorites for a bit! I read gaitskill's bad behavior because I wanted to see the inspo for the movie secretary--enjoyed it! I gottttta get on the Welsh train
Whatsherface, hahaha. Another fabulous video and a great sounding Reading month overall. First Renee and now you… making me want to give White Teeth a go when I’ve struggled with Zadie. Hmmm I am tempted 🦷🦷
@@rifahd138 for me it was a 4/5 stars! his writing style is amazing, super poetic, nostalgic and melancholic, I'd even read his shopping list ahah that being said the plot and the themes (homosexuality, masculinity, self identity, love) are also really interesting and tragic. as a black author, writing a book without black characters was and still is controversial, in my opinion it can lead to a mindful and educational discussion about it, even tho it's not a theme addressed in the book. + it's around 150 pages (not a big commitment imo), so yes you should give it a try! :)
100% on the Mason. Nothing about about the look, marketing or suggested premise set it up as a book I might want to read - so much so that I don't have a Scooby why I actually decided to give it try 🤷(Women's Prize Longlist maybe... IDK) But somehow I did and ended up enjoying it a fair bit - certainly a lot more than I expected. Not a foxed favourite, but a solid read. Glad you had a positive experience with it as well. And, yes, that cover is an abomination. I read White Teeth close to when it first came out. So while my decrepit memory has erased the finer details over time, I still remember it being a fantastic book.
!!! YEP agreed on everything you say about Sorrow. I had absolutely no opinion about it when It first came out, but it was surprisingly really great read and a book I think about often (not a top 10, but an overall good book). Some of the characters in white teeth have my heart
i have a rec for u! The Wall by Marlen Haushofer, it will definitely unravel your sense of reality lol but i think you would find it an interesting read
The Roonz and the Sting in one month?? First off, let’s give it up for the outfit, especially that scarf 👏 👏 👏 Second, I haven’t read any of these but I will now I wanna read all of them! Third, because I’m creepy I noticed you have “The Sluts” on your tbr on Goodreads and I just finished it in one sitting yesterday… The most disturbing thing I’ve read in a while. I don’t know when you’ll get around to it but I wait with baited breath. (Agreed, the cover of Sorrow and Bliss makes me want to commit arson.)
WAIT, I keep looking for both Sluts and Crash by JG Ballard in every thrift store on mother earth and nobody ever has it!! I wanna get into those raunchy novels!
I demand a section on how you style your hair when you do another reading vlog 🐝 As a fellow curly girl with bangs all I do is do a blowout because I CAN NOT be bothered with it. Also congrats on the sponsorship!!!
I'm gonna try to implement some hair care (lemme just say--my hair was WORKING this day, usually she's a mess). Greasy bangs are the biggest concern lately, but I got you, my curly queen
Every time I see this absolute diva talking about books I’m gonna click. It’s just something I’m learning about myself. Edit: Gotta disagree on the cover of Sorrow and Bliss. I like it.

Currently reading Christodora, it's set in NY during the AIDS epidemic. Highly recommend!
ffff yessss, I wish I could go back and read White Teeth for the first time! so, SO good.
