    I just bought a bottle of this and figured I should educate myself on using it. Came straight to TH-cam and found you and now I feel armed and ready! :) I had a horrible time this spring with my lettuce seedlings... none of them grew taller than two inches... so I'm going to start over with heat-tolerant varieties since it's almost summer. And I'll be sure to use this and only 1 TBSP per gallon. I'm going to subscribe for more gardening tips. Thanks!

    Fish fertilizer is the best! I have corn growing right now. I have 62 plants, aside from the rest of my garden. I own two little Beta fish each in a 1 gallon bowl. I change their water and put the waste directly under my corn.
    My corn gets a good burst of energy just from 2 little fish who poop lots. 👍😉❤

    A little tip , molasses helps the root system to pick up nutrients in the soil and prevent burning the roots . I use shredded alfalfa and molasses that i get in 70 lb bags from the local feed store for 20 dollars , it is normally fed to farm animals with dental problems . I cover the soil about 1 inch depth and this also helps retain moisture and protects surface roots from dying , it also breaks down and adds more nitrogen to the soil . My tomato plants were 13 feet tall last year going for 15 feet this year .

    • @thenmgarden6471
      @thenmgarden6471 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have to be careful with alfalfa because it has a ton of nitrogen and it gets hot when it composts. I like using straw for mulch.

    I been using that stuff since the 70s. But they make a kelp, fish, molasses product that is even better than that.
    And if you add some humic to that your plants go nuts.

  • @kenaultman7499

    I use a combination of stuff on mine, including this. I also use this stuff called root ruckus. Which is humic acid, kelp, and myco. Then, I use the alaska fish fert company's bloom booster on anything that is a heavy fruiting plant. For my lettuce I use fish and guano at a low dose.

    I’m never sure of just how much of the mixture to give a plant. For a 5 gal container would you give it enough to saturate the whole container or just cover the surface and let it deep in? I also use Dr. earth 4-6-4 with the fish emulsion. I’m using it on zucchini right now. I don’t see a lot of flowers, especially females. It did produce one good size so far. Another didn’t pollinate. I hand pollinated, my fault, I’m a bad husband. Lol.

    Hi, I use different brands of fish and seaweed (kelp) fertilizer and its good stuff. The last time I used Alaska products, the label said to use 3-TBS per gallon and its too strong. Through experimentation, 1 TBS/gal is the most I will ever use. Often times, I mix 1-TBS in a 2-gallon water can and foliar feed in the evening every 2-3 weeks during flowering thru fruit set and my vegetable yields are crazy.

    • @AnOldSchoolHome
      @AnOldSchoolHome  8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Not true. My elderly neighbor used it when I moved in beside them. We both organic gardened, same soil obviously, but I didn't use it my first year. His plants blew mine away. Next year while still not being fully convinced, I did epsom salt on 25 plants, with the other 25 plants not getting it. The results were amazing. The epsom salt plants did better in every way. More fruit, better heat resistance, just plain better.

      HI! Baking soda usually is great at absorbing odors. Also, coffee beens. If you have used coffee grounds, you can spread them over the top of the soil - they will absorb the smell and are also a great source of nitrogen.

According to the fish emulsion directions, 2 tablespoons to 1 gallon of water fertilizes 25 square feet. Now I’m fertilizing about 240 square feet. From my math I need to add about a cup and a quarter to the injector reservoir. My next question is how much fish emulsion is too much or how much can burn the plants?

I will show a few tea recipes this year I hope. some with fish, crayfish, alfalfa, clover etc dif. in nutrients at different maturity levels.
