Swedish are spetacular at High Jump. Holm is favorite for Gold Medal at Beijing(he made 2m37 this year,is the best 2008 mark). And Sweden had the former High Jump world recordist, Patrik Sjoberg (2m42), actually the European record.
Robbie Petersen _yep! it approaches the most rapid and maximal vertical jump ever. That is_ _one should obey its true training principles like what I did few months_ _back. Ive learned exactly what it needs to have perfect high jump. It_ _gained me serious physical edge over my competition._
tried shazaming the shit out of this video to get the name of the song without luck so googled the lyrics and found out the name of it is "The sounds of infinity" by a band called Freedom. Found only remixes of it though
The Western Roll (prevalent in the 30s & 40s) would be easy to add. The Eastern Cut-off (mostly from the 20s & 30s) would likely be harder to learn but very impressive.
Was watching video of Jesse Owens and he did the high jump like #1. I had only ever seen jumpers do the flop in competitions, which is what brought me here. Thanks for teaching me something.
stefan holm jumps so freakin high with his 1,74m because he has a unnormal big achilles tendon. this improves his jumpingpower damn hard. and this is why he can jump this amazing heights.
Well he's actually 5ft 11" (he just looks tiny when next to the other 6ft 6" highjumpers). You're right, Vert Jump is basically determined by your Strength:Weight ratio. Stephan Holm is incredible strong but also quite light. Sprinting is the same, if you get stronger but also gain lots of weight you wont get faster (maybe even slower) so u gotta get strong without gaining weight (very heavy weights/low reps (less thn 5) and bout 5mins between sets.
@@monsieurLDN actually a super smart comment. I'm a self-coached international sprinter so I know what I'm talking about little grasshopper;) so no, try again.
@@decaDBZ and more dumb comments, incapable of understanding that there isn't one way of becoming faster. Just look at the evolution of the fastest guy
@@monsieurLDN more dumb comments from ewe. Plus I didn't say there's only one way to getting faster. I should know seeing as I've personally gone from low 11s 100m to ~10.2s plus my sprint hurdles pb is the same level as a 10.12s 100m. I also did this self-coached. Sure hypertrophy can yield an increase of sprint speed but the hypertrophy has to be in the right areas plus the emphasis has to be on the lengthening of the muscle fiber as well. Also that suit certain athlete better than others based upon their fast twitch fiber proportions but fiber length is the number one factor in top speed sprinting, even before fiber type. I highly doubt you know much about any of that so no use going into detail about such but rest assures that I know a lot more than 99.999999999% of people about training to be fast and also am a national record holder in a sprint event being self coached. My first every senior international at age 21 I placed 13th at the World Championships, once again this whilst being self-coached.
The basic styles are Scissors, Eastern Cut-off, Western Roll, Straddle, Fosbury Flop. I didn't see him do the Eastern Cut-off style... In my opinion, Stefan is the greatest jumper in history... (even better than Franklin Jacobs) Personally, I would love to have seen Vladimir Illych Yashenko try the Fosbury Flop... I think he could have jumped over 2:45m... I mean, heck, he cleared 2:35m with the straddle technique!
@thewatcher654 well yes and no cause its for beginners, the flop is much more technical. The scissor jump looks harder than it is (i just started high jump and im doing scissor jump i got an ok 1.35m im 12 btw so I wouldnt say its bad) Just saying
@packieenright when he was 14 he jumped 1.94 I think ... you can't call it just hard word and you can't say that an athlete who has jumped 2.40 has no talent
i'm aware of that. it's not like patrik sjoberg hasn't quit, ye he was in the list. So i thought bergqvist should be included in the list of reasons why the swedes have been and still are so good at high jump.
I noticed something. The fact that he's a fairly average height person, probably around 5'7, and he's light-weight helps him give off more exertion when jumping. So if you way less and have a better lean body, then it will help to give a higher vertical. Just noticed. I don't know if it's true or not though.
Lol at someone called "birdcallin" laughing at my name. People automatically know you're "queer" before you even write anything. Not to mention, read the conversation before you start spouting shit. The person said "the flop is the most practical form." I said it wasn't, from what was shown. Obviously the vault is more effective in real life. Genius.
@soaa55 "ur right and [there] is no such thing as natural talent..." You are absolutely wrong. The fact that (almost) everyone jumps higher with training, does not mean that everyone has the same natural propensity for jumping high. In every event, the best in the world (and Holm certainly was one) combine very rare talent with excellent training.
The flop is the LEAST practical form for real life situations. Sure it might win you medals but what good are they gonna do you when you're running down an alley away from a mugger. You can't flop the wall at the end. But you could scissor kick it.
i think a few have calculated it from his ground take off velocity (on a running jump) as 45”-46”. However also heard that off of 2 feet standing he only jumps around 28” which is very interesting
