With the most recent entry being Gundam The Origin, in which he finally get's that staring role fans have been wanting, as finally the protagonist instead of a secondary or supporting character. That being said a recent game that comes to mind is Valkyria Chronicles 4 with the antagonist characters Crymaria and Walz.
@laz kar Murderous asshole isn't really a good description, at least the classic Char Aznable. Char Aznable was filled with a lot of hate for the destruction of his family because of the Zabi family. His father was slowly poisoned which caused much of his delirium which made him turn into a mad man late in this life until he finally suffered a heart attack. His mother was murdered in the same fashion, low doses of poison to make it less obvious she was poisoned. If killing people who were already murderous bastards makes him a murderous bastard, well. He eventually became a genocidal maniac but only after the Federation Civil War known as the Grips conflict which in Zeta Gundam about 80% or more of the main cast were killed off, and the protagonist he viewed as a son became a vegetable. Which finally drove him over the tipping point.
A hero, a true ace, a knight of honor, a man that exudes an air of invincibility... Such memory... Thank you, The Templin Institute for immortalizing an icon of the sky.
Shooting down Yellow 4 and Yellow 13 was the first time I felt like a villain in a video game. They did such a good job of letting you get to know "the enemy," to the point where I was almost rooting for them over myself.
I think he was inspired by a lot of German WW2 aces. Like the story of Hauptmann Hans-Joachim Marseille or "The Star of Africa". He was a young pilot in the German Luftwaffe that served in North Africa, where he didn't care about the politics of Nazi Germany (He once played jazz song in front of Hitler and his entourage), he just loved flying. He once shot down a British fighter and wrote about it in his diary, where he thought about the fact that he just killed someone's son. He also, like 13, befriended an African prisoner of war who became his close friend, whereas 13 with the boy of an occupied country. When Marseille was killed, it had an impact on morale of the entire luftwaffe chapter in North Africa, just like when 13 died with the Erusean airforce. The "Never lost a wingman" part was based on the best ace of all time Erich Hartmann.
I cried when I shot down Yellow 4. I can see Yellow 13 as the type of person who is apolitical, he let children go, even when he felt betrayed. He praised moebius 1, saying "that's what pilot's should be like". He's like the early 1939 Luftwaffe pilot, or increasingly rare during WW2 honorable pilot. Shame he didn't find out about Stonehenge 2 - Megalith was it? It was years ago.
@@TheRagingStorm98 Yeah, only forces were shown more like nazi style (light version obviously, but thematically closer to that). God this game. My mom bought a pile of 2 dollar ps2 games back in 2009 and all of them were total crap. If anyone doesn't know about this game you must at least watch the cutscenes about Yellow 13 and the boy living in the occupied city.
Yellow 13 was Erusea's silent protagonist, he's the answer to "what if the enemy had their own superhuman ace pilot" - every AC game has had it's bosses and the "rival ace" but none felt as truly equal to the player character as 13, both in skill and in spirit and personality. Well, ok, Pixy, but he's different because he was actually your wingman for most of the game, so you personally know him, as opposed to Yellow 13 who is, like Mobius One, more of a myth than a man by the time it gets to enemy ears. By the time they duel over Farbanti it's practically like the entire world came to a standstill, as if the outcome of their dogfight will decide the fate of the entire continent. Yellow 13 in many ways represented the spirit of Erusea as much as Mobius One represented ISAF... When they dueled it was as if the entire war going on below didn't matter, like the weight of world rested on their shoulders alone. It's fitting then that their final and fateful duel over Farbanti took place exactly one year to the day after Mobius One's first sortie during Operation Umbrella, during which he saved ISAF from near total destruction... I don't think this is a coincidence, I'm pretty sure the writers wanted to make it clear that Farbanti was the reverse of Operation Umbrella(Sitting Duck).
Idk, but that brought back memories even though I've only played AC 4 and didn't get that far in the game that still actually made me cry a little and have respect for yellow 013
Unlike most other antagonists , 13 doesn’t use tricks and scripts during the battle not only that but he also doesn’t flies a super planes nor does he utilize impossible manuever or boss version of special weapon he wishes to fight Mobius one on equal ground like a knight
Since most of the Ace Combat series are on PS console, and I am a PC player, I can only watch these stories posted on TH-cam. In my opinion, the best storyline belongs to Ace Combat 6, but for the best enemy, Yellow 13 is so unique that I can remember him only after watch the cutscene once. Unlike some blood thurst or vengeance-fueled characters, Yellow 13 is a man with true talent and shiny spirit. As mentioned in the video, he leads 4 other Yellow Squadron planes and shot down 24 ISAF air crafts, which proofed that he is a gifted leader and pilot. His self-conceived greatest achievement is not how many air he has shot down, instead he never lost any squad mate in his squadron. At his down time, he never brag his victory or so, instead he quietly play guitar at the corner of the bar, accompanied by a local boy. If my memories are correct, the boy joined the local resistance and spied on Yellow Squadrons activities, which indirectly caused the fall of Yellow 4, Yellow 13's true friend, or perhaps lover.Later at night Yellow 13 found out the boy's spy activity and even point a pistol at him, but never pull the trigger, and never report to his superior. Despite the loss of his squad mate to Mobius One, he never shown any personal hatred towards it, instead he was glad that there was someone worth to fight with his full potential. And he did seek fight against Mobius One, not for vengeance, but for challenge. As he fallen from the sky, I think he found great satisfaction from his last battle. He is such a man that burn a deep mark in my memory, and I respect him and feel shame that I have no chance to fight against him directly. After playing Ace Combat 4 and shooting down Yellow Squadron with zero opposition on hard mode. I couldn't help but feel bad that the fight was over in an instant...
In most Ace Combat games, you feel pride for killing off members of the enemy's elite squad. In AC4 every kill feels tragic, because you're killing the people closest to Yellow 13.
I think it's high time we see a full scale return to AC4.... with a twist! Only this time we fly and fight for Erusea! We play as Yellow Squadron and drive ISAF all the way back to North Point! Ace Combat 4 will go down in my memory as one of my absolute favorite games of all time. What a great story. 👌🏼❤️
Do one about The Continental Hotel, from the John Wick franchise.
Anton Kupchenko aka Gault 1 and the organisation of World With No Boundaries would be interesting as well.
Glad to know that templin is an ace combat fan :D
They did a video on the Yuketobania a while back, you should check it out.
@@AonghasMcTavish i know
holy poo, 2 of my fav topic in a row? damn templin you're on a roll here
"I have so far to go, and only Heaven knows..."
I loved every bit of my Ace Combat games. Thank you for this. It gave me chills. Yellow 13 was and is an awesome character for an incredible game series.
AC 04 is my favorite
Played the game more times than I can remember as a kid
I'm glad you actually made a video about Ace Combat, its one of the most underated series
Next Ace Combat Dossier on Larry Foulke pls
How do I like a video twice.
Wow, didn't knew a thing of Ace of Combat and now I want to know more! Please keep up the lore videos on the franchise!
"He prided himself on never having lost a wingman"
Mobius 1: *_OH HELLO THERE_*
Do mobius 1
Better Idea, do the razgriz
Sorry guys, but I need my Pixy or my A World With No Boundaries.
@@alexandrearrive6199 Watching the Ace Combat 7 walkthroughs coming in, I need a squadmate/AWACS who isn't either cardboard or a cardboard asshole.
@@alexandrearrive6199 that's what v2 is for
@@generalhorse493
Even better Mobius 1 and the Razgriz
Fuck I love you guys so much right now. I've been waiting years for AC7 and didn't realize that my anticipation could reach higher levels!
You may have lost the war rival, but you won our respect
YES I've been waiting for another ace combat video forever!
After playing Ace Combat 4 and shooting down Yellow Squadron with zero opposition on hard mode. I couldn't help but feel bad that the fight was over in an instant...
ACE COMBAT! I love you guys. Now we just need Garuda Team and the Legendary Razgriz Demons
Templin making Ace Combat videos? Aw shit yes.
So this is Mihaly's disciple.
4:40 Love that Reiher reference.
I shed a tear watching this. Please keep it up.
Me too
Damn.. last time i flew with him was 18 years ago.. brings back memories... tons of it 😢
I love you guys so much. No matter the topic I always get chills.
Aaaahh. We need more Ace Combat coverage like this.
(Salutes with extreme enthusiasm)
Yellow 13 is an amazing opponent. A most worthy foe and worth my respect. But also, I think you overthought “San Salvacion”. Still, good video.
I was just a child when the stars fell from the sky...
But I remember how they built the cannon to destroy them...
These were my favorite cutscenes in the whole series.
How is no one talking about how wonderfully this music fits the video :p
In most Ace Combat games, you feel pride for killing off members of the enemy's elite squad. In AC4 every kill feels tragic, because you're killing the people closest to Yellow 13.
A respectable man, too
I have Alot of respect for yellow 13 he was a good adversely
The most Honorable Knight on the sky.
Thirteen... I'm killing Thirteen. Namco... I'm killing Thirteen. Your greatest gift to me... and I'm killing him.
That, is a true fighter pilot.
Like in the Red Baron movie, we're pilots, not butchers.
I'm crying...great story bravo..
Will you guys do one on the 108th Tactical Fighter Squadron, Wardog, from Ace Combat 5?
You mean Razgriz squadron right?
Oh boy I loved playing ace combat back in the day
Been asking for ace combat or gundam for a while. Thank you!!
Love the Electrosphere interface ;-) good work
Yellow 13, Garuda 1, Mobius 1, and Cipher
That's a flight you can hang the safety of your county on.
Do Kei Nagase. oh and good luck with that!
Which one?
I think it's high time we see a full scale return to AC4.... with a twist!
Only this time we fly and fight for Erusea! We play as Yellow Squadron and drive ISAF all the way back to North Point!
Then turn around and play as ISAF once again. Reliving the greatness of AC4 with all modern graphics and remastered story lines and still picture scenes with sub titles!!!!
Oh boy! Another episode of Templin Institute! Its time to drop whatever the fuck youre doing and go watch this.
Yeess, a video .
Thank you.
Ace Combat 5 remains the best in my mind.
The SU-37 is a beautiful design.
