I've seen a ton of reviews. This one is one of my favorites. Moving away from benchmarks is a great decision, they don't mean anything to the vast majority of people. You paint an accurate picture overall. Also tip for keeping your keys less oily: Give it a little wipe down with isopropyl alcohol once a week or so. That will massively reduce oil shine. It goes without saying, don't apply alcohol to the screen.
I borrowed a 2012 Unibody 13-Inch i5 MacBook Pro from my dad as my only MacBook before getting the M1 for Christmas 2022, and man is the M1 MacBook Air faster, even if the M2 is already out. I personally like the design of the M1 better than the M2, since the M2 doesn't have that ergonomic wedge design, and has a stupid notch. Now don't get me wrong, there are a few advantages of the M2 MacBook Air, such as the M2 chip itself, which is of course faster than the M1, but only slightly. Second, additional support for MagSafe Charging, but you can also use USB-C to charge as well. But personally, I'm okay using just USB-C to charge, since I have a dongle for older USB devices anyway, and I kinda like using USB-C in places where USB is my only option to charge (No Wall Plug) such as on a flight without any power outlets, just USB. I also found out that I can use my existing iPad 9th Gen with the MacBook Air as an additional display via SideCar, and also control the Mac via the Apple Pencil for heavier video editing, and drawing via Photoshop. I additionally found out that I can also use my MacBook as a Magic Keyboard for my iPad, and control my iPad with it! BTW, I got the iPad for Christmas as well, but back in December 2021, one year before this new MacBook. And I know the NEW iPad 10 is already out, but a lot of people hate those things anyway.
I must say I don't click on videos with under 10k views, but yours had a great thumbnail. Also your content is funny and I like more than classical youtubers who tells your specs and talk about video editing like eveyone does that. Keep going!!
Hey, your review looks good and entertaining. I’m using base MBP with m1, and it’s great. By the way, you can use optimisation mods for Minecraft, like Sodium and Indium. When I installed these mods, I have decreased the temperature from around 85 to about 57-62 degrees Celsius without using a fan.
"forced touch" 🤣your hillarious dude. I'm glad your using the hell out of your device, that's what it's for. Real review by a real person in the real world. Spot on! Thanks for the entertainment.
Love that transition zooming out of the Mac…I had exactly the same step-up from the Macbook Pro 2015 and agree with everything you’ve stated. Great review, humour, camera work and editing. Going to sub as I think you’re worth watch out for the future if you stick at this. Congrats and thank you.
Your review was great and very entertaining. Thanks for not bothering us with cold benchmark numbers and giving us the real experience we would have as normal people. I have an i5 MacBook air from 2018 and this thing gets hotter than -your mom- Sahara desert even with basic tasks. It's actually becoming a high temperature nightmare, and I'm considering an upgrade to the base model m1 air.
I like this review. Subscribed! I switched from a 13” MacBook Pro 2017 to a 16” M1 Max MacBook Pro. I feel inclined to get the 13” M1 MacBook Air as a spare laptop when I don’t want to carry around my bulky MBP.
I loved your review! I’m considering grabbing one to replace my super old MacBook Pro from 2009 (yes you read that well😅). I’m an average user so the entry level should be more than enough. Thanks for the hard work!
the intro captured my attention so well that by the time the review starts, my mood is happy and my attention is maximized and prepared to watch the whole video (especially the intro where you show the macbook in various angles serving as an intro and a way to show off the macbook's physical form at the same time); as such, i subbed to you, Flying Pig; keep up the great work and content, maybe that's why your video popped up on my homepage! by: mico laurente ⭐.

New subscriber here! You are like my son. Witty and funny at the same time. He has the same microphone you are using as well. Keep up the good work. I just bought my first MBA M1 last week.
I've watched a whole bunch of reviews while my M1 is getting shipped, trying to figure out if I should really accept the parcel or not, especially since my cancellation request was rejected too soon when I wanted to switch to the M2 instead. This long review is the most helpful and the best one I've ever seen. It really breaks down all the pros and cons, which has helped me feel more informed about my decision. 😗
Thanks, I was looking for a MacBook Air to use for college and for personal use. My old MacBook Pro was from 2012. There was a lot of lag and it kept crashing on me. As I've seen the m2 MacBook Air, I wasn't sure which one to choose. I'm probably going to go with the m1 Macbook Air in gold now that I've seen your video since it still works well and can be fast thanks to the m chip.
Get the M1. Very fast and smooth. Can have multiple tabs open easy money. Got the base model for college. Perfect. Don’t really play any games except Old school RuneScape. And it runs that perfect lol.

Interesting! Just wonder if your MBA M1 is 8GB RAM or 16GB RAM? Everyone seams to fail about how important RAM is for the whole experience! I think I would go for MBA 16GB Ram M1 instead of MB Pro 8GB M2!
I agree, I mention that I have the 16 gig model in the video and I think it's worth jumping to 16 gigs, 8 gigs just doesn't seem enough in 2023 and going forward. Thanks for commenting!
I spilled tea (with sugar) over my 2020 Intel i3 MacBook Air and its keyboard became unbearable. PS: you have a great sense of humor, keep going at it 😂
I have completed 256 cycles and my maximum capacity is 90% (the battery health). I don't really have a specific charging schedule lol, Macs have some degree of built in battery control as well which is pretty cool (for example it limits the charging to 80% until you really need it which is good for the battery health).
Hi, thanks for commenting. For the temperature indicator, I use an app called Hot. The system statistics for the GPU, SSD, RAM and CPU are all from an app called Stats. Both apps are free, if you want I can give you links to both of them. Thanks for watching!
I had a dead pixel on my M1 air that I got last November. Had it replaced in December for no charge, so if you're within warranty they'll fix it for free.
Hi! Funny but good review! I wanted to ask you.. 98°C while playing minecrfat.. Isnt that too much? It could be because of shaders maybe? What was your graphic? Highest or medium?
Love the video 😊 I made the same jump from a 2015 pro (which was a durable beast!) and the m1 is blazing fast despite being base model. Handles everything I throw at it so well even games like Cities Skylines.
@@FlyingPigChannel I’ve had mine since 2016 and it’s still performing well even at 600 battery cycles! Was due an upgrade though as was starting to feel it slow down, especially with TH-cam, Netflix and Spotify.

Thanks for the comment, surprisingly viewer retention has been performing quite well considering the length of this video! Nice to see another similar content creator in my comments. :)
long-term is right .... To be fair, my Intel 2018 had instant-on as well.. The only thing you gotta worry about is when PC laptops all start following suit. 😟
I'd say go for the M2 13" Air, its price got reduced after the 15" came out so it's a pretty good value now. The M1 is still an excellent laptop for anyone on a budget but it's almost 3 years old at this point so for most people, it would be worth it to get the M2 13" Air. And of course, there's the 15" Air for those who want a bigger screen :)
Trying to decide between the M1 air for £879 and the m1 MacBook pro for £1749, all I do is write on chrome and basic photoshop editing, and ocassionally prem pro. My worry is that 8gb ram won't be enough but thoughts?
I'd say get 16 gigs of RAM if you can just to be safe, it gives you a lot of wiggle room. It'll come in use especially if you're editing photos and videos on the thing. I'm always constantly using more than 8 gigs of RAM on my Mac.
Depends on your use case and as xionwins9076 said, what devices you already use. I personally don't have any experience with the Asus Zenbook 14, but both devices will be perfectly fine for light use. If you're used to Windows and Android I'd recommend the Asus Zenbook but if you're already in the Apple Ecosystem it would be ideal to purchase the MacBook Air in my opinion. Again, these are just my thoughts based on what I know, I don't have any experience with the Zenbook.
will it get me through high school (ps im gonna go to 9th grade) i dont do much except for school work, watch things, maybe play roblox.. thats it tbh-
Dead pixels are really rare, if you take care of the screen it'll be fine most of the time. These things mainly happen because of manufacturing errors or defects, the only real way to get rid of it is to return it if it's still in the return period/notify the manufacturer. Honestly though, dead pixels are really rare and I don't even notice the one single pixel that's dead on my computer lol, it's not a huge deal I was just nitpicking.
@@FlyingPigChannel Hiii update I just noticed I got one fuck hahah and it’s outside warranty, do you think its something I should be worried and panic? And will it spread?
You won't even need to trade it in and upgrade. M1 is that good... this thing will last for ages until the SSDs die then hopefully you have applecare because dead SSDs means no bios means computer will be trashed unless apple fixes it. Sadly all the new macbooks have this problem. But it's in the far off future hopefully
@@FlyingPigChannel Hi. Thanks for answering. The base m2 model is 1319€ and 256 gb is too little. Meanwhile m1 512gb is 1269 €. Should I buy mb air? What you think? Thank you man
I’d say if you need more storage and those are your only options, get the M1 MacBook Air - you will probably be able to stretch it to 7 years, but do keep in mind that it will be 9 years old by then. The M2 with more storage would be a better choice long term in my opinion. I’d also recommend looking at other reviews as well to help your comparison :)
apple typically supports their laptops for a while, my 2015 macbook pro got updates all the way until 2022 when it was dropped with MacOS Ventura. The M1 is less than two years old so you’ll probably get around four or maybe even five more years of software updates. ultimately it’s all uncertain though, this is just my take based on what apple has done in the past. hopefully that answered your question :)
@@munemshahriar3127 if by daily tasks you mean things like web browsing, document editing, watching videos and stuff, and excel of course, i think 8 gigs of ram should be fine for you :) if you’re thinking of doing anything like video editing though, i’d recommend bumping up to 16 gigs.

@@FlyingPigChannel ok tysm
Should I be worried about future updates if I wish to get the M1?
apple typically supports their laptops for a while, my 2015 macbook pro got updates all the way until 2022 when it was dropped with MacOS Ventura. The M1 is less than two years old so you’ll probably get around four or maybe even five more years of software updates. ultimately it’s all uncertain though, this is just my take based on what apple has done in the past. hopefully that answered your question :)
Sorry one more question, so i will be using it for daily tasks and just excel words bla bla. I don’t really need 16gb ram right? Thanks!
@@munemshahriar3127 if by daily tasks you mean things like web browsing, document editing, watching videos and stuff, and excel of course, i think 8 gigs of ram should be fine for you :) if you’re thinking of doing anything like video editing though, i’d recommend bumping up to 16 gigs.
grreat video
You make me laugh funny man 😂
Great review, you should get that dead pixel checked though, it could get worse, either try to revive it or send it to Apple
Thanks.
Where can I get the wallpaper
The orange wallpaper is the macOS Ventura default wallpaper.
@@FlyingPigChannel pink purple one where I get that from?
@@mindset.magician2 here is the google drive link for the wallpaper pack that it’s from drive.google.com/drive/folders/1TOSi1LXN5ZbX3bupbjcN3E5nAX7cD8IB

sooo nice
Excellent review. Best one I've seen on the M1 MacBook Air, and I've watched a LOT. Nice one
Bro my M1 MBA is dope. Yes it’s worth it. Get it cheap.
I’d love to buy the M1 Air to replace my 2015 MacBook Pro. Still going strong after I put in a new nvme in it in 2021.
I’d install thermal pads in it just for shits and giggles.
Btw, your “Knock! Knock! Knock! Open up! That Touchpad is 5 months old!” scared the bejesus outta me because I was listening with headphones! 😂
that’s so funny, I also upgraded from a 2015 MacBook Pro (that I ALSO upgraded with a WD NVMe drive in 2021)!
and sorry for scaring you hehe
What is that song that played at the start?

@@FlyingPigChannel Thank you. By the way, your review was great and helped me make up my mind.
An episode of you parodying an Asian dad intro would be very nice (Borat).
You don’t have the nicer video editing software and did this? Dude, I’ll dontate to help you get there. Link your info or whatever man
Buy the MacBook Pro M1 because of the fan. The new MacBook Air / Pro 14 / Pro 16 are less aluminium and price are too high.
yo, I bought it thanks to you.
that’s awesome! what are your thoughts so far?
@@FlyingPigChannel I have compiled my pet project, edited 1080p video in davinci resolve, watched videos on TH-cam (studying ofc) and it had 40% battery left at the end of the day.
