Kentucky was about 50% complete when work finally stopped on her. There are plenty of photos of her hull be launched before she was laid up. Illinois didn't make it too much farther than the keel laying. I think she was like 20% complete when work was stopped. She was broken up on the slip. What's more interesting about these two was they were most likely going to have a very different superstructure configuration than the previous ships. They would have looked a lot more like the Oregon City or Des Moines class cruisers than the earlier Iowas.

I remember in the mid 70's visiting the "Mighty Mo" in Bremerton, WA. when she was mothballed. She was berthed next to the carrier Oriskany. I have some pictures of her and the Oriskany beside each other. Both of these ships are immense in size, the main batteries of Missouri, anchor chain and the shells carried were impressive. The spot of the signing of the end of hostilities between Japan and the U.S. I also have a picture of, to the right of second main battery turret.
Fun fact the Iowa suffered damaged to the front of the ship. And when it was repaired. The repairs made it a few feet longer. So it is actually the largest battleship the US ever built.... and now you know lol
Nope USS Wisconsin was due to being rammed by a friendly destroyer..... they cut away the bow and took the Bow from the Unfinished USS Kentucky. Which is why Wisconsin got the nickname WisKy It did end up being a bit longer because of it though.

I was fortunate to serve in the Navy when both the Iowa and Wisconsin were stationed in Norfolk, VA. We actually sailed to the Med with Iowa in our battle group in '89 (after the turret incident).They are very impressive in person.

@@Bellthorian Nassau was flat-bottomed, and sat VERY high in the water. As I remember it, the quarterdeck was on the 2nd deck. And it was still 2 decks above the waterline. At one point, we were docked next to the JFK, a freakin' aircraft carrier... and we could look down from our flight deck onto theirs.

To comment about the Kamikaze damage on the ship, you are correct. On board they have a display talking about the incident and showing the famous picture of the plane about to hit. At the impact point, if you look at the side of the ship from the deck you can see the upper lip of the waterway is dented in for a good 20-30 feet. From the water, you can see the side plating dented in closer to the waterline in the same area. This damage was superficial and never deemed worthy of repair so she still wears the marks. The Kamikaze pilots body was found in the wreckage, the Missouri's crew gave him a proper military burial at sea.
I just started playing a few weeks ago and have been grinding American battleships because I really want Iowa (and Yamato eventually). I'm about 1/4 the way through New York so, a long ways to go.
Did you know pearl harbor is only about 55 foot deep. It's crazy how those big ass ships can come in and out. And. That the u.s.s north Carolina was the 1st battleship to enter pearl harbor after the bombing

Im guessing after all the games i have played and seen Iowa’s on full reverse and Max range most people would not have the skill cap to use this ships full potential. Play this ship allot on the pc version and the radar does come in handy. One can easily chase a dd out of a cap. Sometimes just the threat of the radar is enough without even using it. In my xperience its a good ship for aggressive moves, one just have to be able to plan 4 steps ahead at all times and it will be fine. Cant wait to Get this ship on console aswell💪
If every Iowa class battleship would get a radar because they had that in WW2, then you would also have to give that to the bismarck-class battleships and to the hipper-class heavy cruisers in this game (and probably to a lot of other ships too).
I like the iowa but i have seen the everytime i play with iowa class it takes cash everytime you play instead of giving money it takes alot. Warships community needs to fix this
Gg Spartan. Not sure what to think about this ship. The radar is ok but I agree with you that it should go out further, maybe 12 kms. Let the Russian ships be different. I wish there were more consumables for it and the rest of the US bb line. I think at t7 there should be 4 x consumables and some unique to their country. I think 30k is ridiculous for the ship considering how long it takes to grind for steel. I'm now at 25k and I was keen to get the ship but now after all the hard work to grind for steel, I think I might hold out since I already have Iowa. I heard on pc the ship origanally came with a captain, it was Steven Segal and he use to walk around the deck of the ship. This was a reference to the move under siege. Pitty he's not included in legends it would have been cool.

How is the credit earning potential? One of the things that made the Missouri so great on the OC version was is it PRINTED money. I had matches where it would earn a million silver. When the Missouri came out on the PC Wargaming had a deal with Steven Seagal. You got him as a captain complete with voice over and he was named after his character in Under Siege. In port he would walk around the exterior of the ship and do various things. I used to make Steven Seagal fat jokes all the time and say the easiest way to find him when the ship was in port was to see which way the ship was listing.
The Kamikaze pilot that hit the Missouri’s belt was also given a full military burial with all honours etc. His body was found on the deck and the captain of Missouri at the time felt the pilot with devoted to his orders and deserved honour

I get what you're saying about the US banding together for the first time since, well, the revolutionary war really because of the attack on Pearl Harbor. But, I also feel like I should point out that Hawai'i was not a US state in 1941. The naval and army installations on Oahu I believe were counted as American soil because of much the same reasons as to why the US were present in places such as the Philippines and Guam...

No sense grinding steel if you dont buy it, id buy it just cause it would go with my other US ships. Im glad to finally see a video on it. I am only sitting at 2200 steel so its gonna be some time. I dont really care that much to be honest. Ill keep playing the game but im done spending cash on it. Wargaming is starting to get outta hand.
if it's an Iowa class BB, i'll grind for it. my only disappointments with the Missouri is it has less hit points than the Iowa... why is this so? I thought premium ships were fully upgraded so I'd expect that it had the "Iowa hull" upgrade which brings it to a base hit point of 70000 and with Sims as commander, up to 72K something hit points. I also don't understand the shorter range. The Iowa can reach up to 20Km but this only goes 19.5Km... not a big deal but why? I don't have the Missouri yet but if the next ship will be a New Jersey or Wisconsin, I would check the stats first when I can afford the ship.
Something was really peculiar about that P. Bag. Everyone was shooting at him and no one was getting hits. Even when he was fouled in the boundary. It was like he had some kind of super dispersion booster. Most of your shots were bracketing him. Smells like a hack to me.
Awesome Missouri match. I've already got Iowa *(wish it had a radar to help spot DDs like Shimakazes)* , so Missouri is a "Yes" on collecting but not priority for me. Through out my time lurking WoWs, the controversies surrounding Missouri rhymed with what happened to Belfast. Basically had loud minority clusters of folk on the forums doing the usual shtick that stuck out to me: 1. Perceived OP-ness for its type 2. The credits boost from matches 3. The crowd that wants special "Hats" for themselves and no one else to obtain it cus "reasons". Point 3 is by far the most annoying one that sticks out like a sore thumb to me since I've seen that same cruddy behavior permeating in the Battlefield's Easter Egg fiasco from BF4 to BF1.
Point 3, it is not reasons it is because it is fun to have something your friends don't and you get to lord it over them all the time. My friends lorded their Emperor Nikolai over me all the time. I lorded the Missouri over them all the time. it was fun.

if it's an Iowa class BB, i'll grind for it. my only disappointments with the Missouri is it has less hit points than the Iowa... why is this so? I thought premium ships were fully upgraded so I'd expect that it had the "Iowa hull" upgrade which brings it to a base hit point of 70000 and with Sims as commander, up to 72K something hit points. I also don't understand the shorter range. The Iowa can reach up to 20Km but this only goes 19.5Km... not a big deal but why? I don't have the Missouri yet but if the next ship will be a New Jersey or Wisconsin, I would check the stats first when I can afford the ship.

Something was really peculiar about that P. Bag. Everyone was shooting at him and no one was getting hits. Even when he was fouled in the boundary. It was like he had some kind of super dispersion booster. Most of your shots were bracketing him. Smells like a hack to me.
What about the Alabama. Which sits in mobile bay in mobile AL

Awesome Missouri match. I've already got Iowa *(wish it had a radar to help spot DDs like Shimakazes)* , so Missouri is a "Yes" on collecting but not priority for me.
Through out my time lurking WoWs, the controversies surrounding Missouri rhymed with what happened to Belfast. Basically had loud minority clusters of folk on the forums doing the usual shtick that stuck out to me:
1. Perceived OP-ness for its type
2. The credits boost from matches
3. The crowd that wants special "Hats" for themselves and no one else to obtain it cus "reasons".
Point 3 is by far the most annoying one that sticks out like a sore thumb to me since I've seen that same cruddy behavior permeating in the Battlefield's Easter Egg fiasco from BF4 to BF1.
Point 3, it is not reasons it is because it is fun to have something your friends don't and you get to lord it over them all the time. My friends lorded their Emperor Nikolai over me all the time. I lorded the Missouri over them all the time. it was fun.
