here's a variant that just popped up on BGG that may help with doubles. "Doubles. Pay 1 morale for each worker placed after the first on a turn. Must have the morale available to pay. Markets. Receive 1 morale for each additional worker used to construct a market. (Aim is to reduce impact of high-luck with doubles, and to provide a minor reward for contributing heavily to a market) "
I've never played a game of Euphoria with less than 5; but I've now played about seven games. My personal collection is almost 100 games and my group has far more. Euphoria is now my favorite game. It's a fantastic game. A worker placement game that plays between 60-90 minutes. Lots of different strategy. Lots of flavor. Great components and artwork. Lots of interaction without all the screw-you-over mechanics so prevalent in other worker placement games. What's even more shocking. These are my opinions and I've never ever won, and I'm quite competitive. That having been said, I agree with on the doubles and triples introducing a bit too much luck. It seems fine until you play a game and never roll doubles yourself while watching everyone else get extra placements. My top-5 probably consists of Euphoria, Powergrid, Bridges of Shangri-La, Ra and Um Reifenbreite.
One of the things I appreciate is how fast this game runs, we seem to be able to get high player counts and still keep the pace up. Looks great on the table and the theme sells itself to new players. Great game.
Could not agree more. I had a lot of fun with this one. The kickstarter edition components are awesome. I basically forgot about the dystopia theme as I played. The gameplay was fun regardless. Acquiring resources was interesting, building the markets and allegiance was interesting, and digging tunnels was fun. I did not really care for the artifact cards; they seemed like a distraction from what I was already having fun doing. I'll have to give this a few more plays to make up my mind about them. The territory game does work better with 4+ players in my opinion. The game seems slow the first few rounds but then it really starts to pick up the pace and increase the tension.
Think it's a great game. My playing group isn't really into euro games, but love this. The theme drew them in, the mechanics made them stay. Thanks for yet another great runthrough!
***** I laughed so hard over "droogie" -- thanks for that. :-) I have to admit, I was one of the earliest playtesters outside of Jamey's game group and I still love Euphoria. It has so many fresh approaches... really innovations, as you said. Can't wait to see what Jamey and Alan are going to do next!
Great review, especially for playing the first time with only 2 people. Definitely think it's beneficial to start this at 4 players to understand certain value of objectives.
hi rahdo, great video as usual. how interactive is the game? I'm looking for a dice allocation game with lots of direct interaction. Bumping certainly seems interactive.
yeah, i'd consider it a 2013 game, and right now I put it in my top 20 of the year, but not quite top 10. but that's subject to change... will be doing a top10 update in april after I get to play all these games more :)
Mmm not sure what to think about this game. Seems it has lots of randamnes and luck in it to be a workerplacement game.I din't like either that you roll 2 the same dice getting 2 back2back actions, build an market and cause others to have penalties, just because you had 2 the same dice. And you seem to like the bumb aspect off it,but isn't the whole idea of workerplacement to block some spaces so you force them to adjust there strategy or so. MMmm ah well nice runtrough, this i don't think i will add this to my collection.
one thing to bear in mind, with more than 2p, you need more than 2 resources to build a market, so that "haha, i got doubles and now you have no chance to contribute to the market" thing only happens in 2p. honestly, I see no real reason not to just remove the doubles rule...
***** ah oke but i have to say we are with 3 in our family. So we almost never play with +3 people. Would you still recommend it then ? Its seems to be still to random to be a workerplacement game.
Wolverine X men Well, I still like it as a 2p game, so I guess I'd enjoy it as 3. The interesting thing is that instead of trying to block others ala normal worker placement, you still want to get where they are going before them, so they can give you a boost. We like this element quite a bit, and it can be there, no matter how many players you have...
***** mm i will see maybe somewhat towards the end off the year. I have backed Fresco Big box on KS ( and its coming around may i think) so i wouldn't get it soon anyway. Maybe i will change my mind in the future

Played it with 4 , fantastic game, I think that 4 is the sweet spot for this.
I think this is the first time in my life I have been called a "groupie" :)
Great runthrough as usual, Richard!
actually the word was "droogie" (dystopian in joke)
Ah, OK. I guess I had better get my hearing checked!

How did you find this game? No idea where to order it. Cheers!
Hm, the bump mechanic reminds me a bit of the scientist bumping in CO2.
Richard, why did you pick Malta? (Gozu) We are considering retiring there as well.
+shatnershairpiece came here for a job, stayed once the job was over for the cheap cost of living :)
The push mechanic kind of reminds me of Hansa Teutonica.
Thanks, Richard

yes, bumping is tres interactive! :)
Is that the only direct interaction?
the game also heavily features barter and player trade
How so?
settlers of catan style "i'll give you 2 bliss for one water" stuff
Would you consider this a 2013 release? If so, would it be in or near your top 10 for 2013?

to me the player count of this game is 5 or 6. preferably 6.
