Im a yank so you may not want to hear my opinion but, I know how to fix it. Get your family into motorcycles. Get your women into motorcycles. Be inclusive find and explain neccesity vs vanity. Your BMW's are 300 to 400 percent more expensive than their equivalent bikes. We have done this to ourselves. Of course its hard to move bikes when they are trying to pus 30k msrp. Apple car play adaptive suspension adjustable ride height 4 way color phone screens remote keyless luggage. Every single one of these has contributed in a MAJOR way to the downfall of a leisure activity for the every man.
When you approach your shiny luxury motorcycles and bang em up as the be all end all despite the true performance being relatively the same. Impressionable people who are ill informed take away the opinion that stat sheets or fancy electronic nonsense is a status symbol. So anyway in short be informative to your friends and new riders about what is worth your money and whats not. Otherwise we will continue this downhill fuckfest of people going tits up in a 30k loan on a superbike they cant even ride within 1/10th of its potential. End rant

The way the world is going, I don't think the powers that be want us riding nice bikes.
It's going to end up a luxury hobby like owning and riding horses, just for the rich.
Eventually I can see us getting priced out of our love of bikes, causing us to live smaller lives in the name of progress.

Triumph Oxford have zero interest in selling unless you walk over to them and say "I want to order this bike..." and BMW, Ducati etc are all pricing their bikes higher than a VW Golf. @TheSd1cko หลายเดือนก่อน +3

@majordelays4909 I hate to say it, and it's not a dig at you. But this is what's ruining the market. Too many people buying what they can't afford just to have what they dont need.
The bike market was a thriving place until pcp and the likes became the norm. There's such an abundance of older 2nd hand machines right now sat in massive buildings waiting to be bought but no one wants them (well, some do) but everyone thinks they need the newest & shiniest and credit makes it too easy.
You'd think this would be good for the market, except it's not. They ain't shifting the trade ins because they don't generally offer affordable credit on bikes beyond a few years old.
Why everyone thinks finance is the answer to owning stuff I really don't know 🤷 if they saved what they weren't spending on finance they'd already have the money.
I know it's easier said than done, because once the finance companies have you, it's hard to revert. Stuck between a rock and a hard place.

The basic Honda CB is £8999. The basic BMW S1000r, with nothing on it (no elec suspension or any other bits) is £13,360. Fully kitted out it’s just under double the price. The M1000r is well on the way to three times the price. If we’re all a bit short of cash which one makes more sense? No-one on the road is going to notice much of a difference anyway. This kind of pricing is what will save biking at least in the shorter term. Bikes are turning into cars with all the unnecessary tech, ever bigger engines and more weight, and many cost more without any of the benefits of a car.
Get more kids and women into bikes and keep them interested or it’s finished. Make the test accessible, prices lower, insurance will be cheaper as a result and we might have a slim chance of going back to bikes as transport instead of status symbols for bored final salary pension retirees 😂

In Bulgaria, and I think everywhere else in EU, it is exactly as Chris said - third party liability is compulsory and that's it. I paid 77 EUR for this year. Road tax is around 45 EUR. On the flip side no company insures privately owned bikes for damage or theft or anything. Only a few insurers work with leasing companies. So you buy a new bike, like I did, and if something happens you are on your own.

  • @Its_motion_media

Just for some background on the 3rd party insurance with Australia. When you pay the registration you get "Compulsory 3rd Party" insurance. That covers physical injuries. Does not cover the other vehicle, does not cover damage to property. We still need to pay extra for "3rd Party Fire and Theft" insurance or "Full Comprehensive". I know plenty of people on cheap beater bikes that don't pay for any extra insurance. Rego costs are about $300 per 6 months. Completely legal, just don't crash into a Mercedes!

You're right in Australia. You get third party person with your rego. This covers a person healthcare wise regardless of fault. You can legally ride without third party property or comprehensive insurance if you like but the risk is on you to cover personally. Obviously this has some flaws in that if both parties don't have insurance the party not at fault doesn't really have a guaranteed way of getting paid out for their damages.

There are so many dealers closed in Scotland recently its becoming hard to find dealers near, you have to travel to get to a particular brand now. BMW is probably the most available now and I'm guessing this is because they are attached at the hip to the car dealers.

There's no real love of motorcycling, you only need to look at the average age demographic of bikers to see that it's not a thing for younger (mostly) men. Cost comes into it too, big bikes loaded with tech can cost more than a decent car.

16:05 it's called liability. the minimum amount of insurance you can get and be legal is liability. meaning, as you said, your insurance will pay out to cover damage you're liable for on someone else's vehicle, but not for your own vehicle. for a motorcycle, you can have only basic liability even if it's new because it's considered a toy. and once you own a car, you can drop down to basic liability if you want. but if you lease or finance a new car, the finance company will require full coverage. you could legally drive with only basic liability, but the finance company would immediately repossess the car.

  • @andrewbell7217
    @andrewbell7217 หลายเดือนก่อน

Talking about finance and I guess not just with bikes... But I don't understand why they cannot change the rules around PCP deals and allow them two things. First to allow PCP deals over longer periods to reduce monthly prices. Second to allow PCP deals on older bikes (over 5 years old) as often a straight finance deal is more expensive than a new PCP deal, so less incentive.
    Anyway... Just a thought 😊

But, Property theft is basically non-existent, home invasions never ever... The motorcycle action group did a study that showed if just 10% of single occupancy car drivers were on motorbikes, there would be no congestion... Cycling just isn't viable unless you have a shower at work and a safe place to lock your bike, and an ebike rental is more than the running costs of my motorbike. ...
