Funny.....I have been pondering this over the past few months. This certainly explains a few things that I have seen now In the 9ish months that I have had my '23 1500. The durability of my hood has seemed a little weak, and dents easily from rock strikes. It seems that all rock strikes leave a small dent now, on top of the customary paint chip. neato. My hood is also affected more noticeably by road vibrations at highway speeds than any of my older Chev trucks were/are, with their steel hoods.
My brother's 1995 Ranger had an aluminum hood. I don't recall it ever having a dent.

I think Ford started using aluminum hoods on the Ranger way back in the 1990's. It didn't seem to be a problem.
Yes, my 97 F150 had an aluminum hood too. I'm not sure about my Rangers. I never thought to check.
The only thing that rusts on the GM’s rockers and wheel wells…the only parts NOT Aluminum.🤷♂️
I know right! That’s one reason I haven’t added the rear wheel well liners. I’m afraid of rusting them out.
GM should just go all aluminum. They need to ditch the idiotic frame wax, go powder coat.
