It seems the intention here is more about building a walled garden internet, as opposed to the wild west we used to have.. everything sanitized, and making it harder and harder to access whatever isn't establishment.

Scamming companies get to the top by more money?!!? Are you kidding ?the only companies at the top are the ones with money!! That means that if you decide to create your own shoe brand, you will never even get seen on the Internet because you don’t have the money! Do you understand the implications of that?
For those who don't know, Google has actually be very nefarious with ad words. They have removed advertisers ability to see what their ads are showing up for by 50% and over. Google has also made targeting based on certain keyword match types MUCH less targeted. This all means that because these ads are showing up in more irrelevant places, those ads get wasted clicks which means advertisers must pay more to get the same amount of quality leads that they used to. This also sucks for searchers because more and more search results are becoming less relevant and unhelpful to what you're looking for.
That's interesting. You have any sources? This seems like a huge deal, would affect their stocks a lot if someone proved they're sabotaging the customers.
The irony is that this makes innovation nearly impossible for anyone other than Google (in capitalism the innovator inevitably becomes the consolidator/oppressor).

Those rich companies don't even analyze how effective (not effective) those ads are. And middle and small business can't put ads there, it's just useless

Ads will burn Your money daily with mixed results - building brand - content - will give You rising results - only getting better each day.
maybe ads in browsers are not crap but those appear between TH-cam videos are mostly crap and scams. Horrible experience, YT manipulating to sell premium😂😂

I was working for a big gambling company, we spent around 250mil just on google ads a year, not including any other advertising that we had.

brave browser is what I use to block all adds. is the same with gooogle chrome but it blocks all ads.

It’s about brand awareness too, not just direct sales
I never click the ad links. I feel like clicking the ad takes an additional 0.5 second to load the site. Too slow.

I agree.. I was trying to search for the pig breed used for my preferred Kansas City pork chop, and all I got was advertisements for meat suppliers.
