Brilliant game, I'll always love it. As much as I like GW2, I'm afraid it'll never be the same as the good old GW1. A masterpiece it was, and still is.
For anyone wondering now about the Guild Wars series, Guild Wars 2 developers Arenanet have confirmed that they are now working on a third expansion and they teased concept art that looks alot like Cantha... It's time to go back home for the Guild Wars Factions fans!
I remember when my dad bought this game for my me and my brother, when we really wanted to play WoW with our friends, because he didn't think paying for a game monthly was worth it/managable back then. Best decision he made. He passed away in 2013, but memories like these remain when I listen to these soundtracks. I miss 2006...

I been playing all day and have seen a lot of people on recently. It's starting to pick back up bro. Lot's of new players on lately that have never played before.
gotta miss the old fort aspenwood battles, they were probably my favourite thing in GW! such a great game! i still play GW2 maybe once a month, but it didn't capture the magic that GW1 had.
+Raptor Jesus Boy did you get it right. GW2 didn't nearly catch the magic that GW1 had. Even the music for GW1 so sublimely paints the perfect picture. Ahh I miss that game, and I feel bad for Anet, who just don't seem to have a clue!
I feel that the problem with GW2 is that it's just too easy. It doesn't capture the challenges we faced in GW1, I still remember failing a mission repeatedly and the rewarding feeling that was finally beating the final boss! I have never failed a single mission in GW2...
Oh guys, I am truly holding back some tears ... I miss these old days ... standing in Shing Yea watching the perfect players standing on the stairs talkin some funny crap 'bout each other, and now where all of my characters have an elite, they are gone ... I still remember battling in PvP and always trying to have the newest best strategy for my build, but staying always with my knockDown assassine. :'D I wish GW2 would have been never released and those fucking great days would have never had to end. I am still playing it and I am so glad I still found an active guild of my language, and I guess I can shit on all the Zeldas, CoD's, N64 games, final fantasy Vii, castlevania, the kingdom hearts series i own if they'd just fuckin' update this game and bring to the old popularity ... and this music makes me feel so epic writing this shit xD Oh, memories ... :')
Guild wars is still around - granted, the player numbers are nothing like they used to be, but Guild Wars is still alive and well, and believe it or not it's possible to find people talking in the major outposts still.
Luxon theme is one of the few songs in this world that I know, that can make me feel so emotional and self-reflecting on life and me as a human being. It's my favourite song ever, too short too.
Yup, Luxon Theme is probably one of the best songs in GW1 throughout all the expansions. It FEELS like an ocean...it sounds like waves and time and tradition all compounding into one. Soule is a master at creating diegetic music that feels like it is part of the environment you are in. This is why this soundtrack and frankly all of his work is legendary, it becomes part of the world rather than just a soundtrack to it.
I started to play GW1 with this expansion. Good memories. Sometimes i am online in GW1 doing some Missions, but nothing will bring back the feeling i had, when this game had thousands of active players. Im so thankful i had the chance to experience this. Its sad for all those GW2 Hippster Kids who complain against GW1, tho they never experienced the Game like we did. Thanks GuildWars.
Start gw2 like I did, you can display titles above your name which you have earned in GW1 like "God Walking Amongst Mere Mortals" to show were a true passionated gw1 god :)
Kevin Guillemette been playing GW1 10YRS ago and wished GW2 was the same but hopefully they make a remaster version down the line. Also would through GW2 out of the window if I bought the entire GW1 set again.
I remember playing my Warrior to Death... 12 Elite-Armors, but i never finished my Obsidian... but i did manage to finish all Missions with bonus/Master-degree on Hard Mode, becoming Legendary Guardian. The Atmosphere of this game was unique. Still remember running around in prophecies tutorial, never wanting to leave... i have a bunch of screenshots of me and my 20 buddies, we were all in the same guild. Hours and hours of sitting in the guildhall, chatting and drinking over Skype, doing ridiculous runs in lvl 2 maps, grabbing the occasional noob in Monastery and dragging them through the maps with one of our 10 char slots and each char had at least 2 elite armors... in every map there was one very beautiful place that didnt contain any mobs, you could just sit down there and chill out and enjoy the view. damn i put so much time into that game. its such a shame it died.
I LOVED Guildwars. especially the variety in builds and team composition. I had Obsidian for Warrior, Necromancer, Ranger, Assassi, Dervish and Paragon.
Damn im just laying here, watching and listening to Guild Wars 1 Videos while sinking deep into nostalgic feels.. :/ I always remember the moment i talked with some strangers in kamadan about Guild Wars 2 and how hyped we are about its release... What a fool i was, should have been glad to play GW1 in its full Beauty :/
I switched often due to changing guilds every few months. Remember, whenever I was a Kurzick I'd call Luxons, Suxons. Whenever I was on Luxons I'd call Kurzicks, Kurdicks. Man 12/13 year old humour was amazing
This was probably the best expansion after a base game for any MMO, ever to date. I loved everything; the sweeping visuals, the oriental-themed music, the story - how layered the city was. This really felt historic just playing through when I did (back in beta-launch+Expansion releases.) So beautiful, in many aspects - and The Jade Sea is still one of my favorite areas to date. So pretty; and the music that accompanied it.
@@ryanv640899 yeah! It's just been teased currently but on the website the most recent post. Last paragraph, i can hear the music already... The hype is real!

Please A.net bring us cantha in Guild Wars 2 with the same ambiance, I'll be so so much happy to play it again with a new point of view !
So many great memories! Im usually not the type of guy who is subsceptible for nostalgia but I played it too many years for not feeling it when I hear this. Kind of sad I will never live through this experience again.
This makes me dream of a new Guild Wars 1 spin-off with everything Guild Wars 1 had, just a completely re-written engine so there can be updates like in GW2. Dual-spec and the old 8 skill system, with a balance team isn't very hard. I don't remember many people crying about balance in Guild Wars 1 very often, they did a great job, no matter how hard it was.
I am glad to announce that GW1 is still surprisingly active people. There honestly still are lots of very large and active alliances that not only do everything in the game you can think of, but are also very helpful towards new players. I recently started playing again and I'm having loads of fun!
The one I played GW1 with the most, since day one. Passed away about a year and half ago, even the slightest sound of GW1 music tears my eyes. I will never forget!
Oh god, the nostalgia. I remember coming home from high school every day to play this game. I used to sprint home, grab some soda, some candy out of the cupboard, and then play until my dad came home from work. I had a warrior main and a 55 hp monk in prophecies, but made an assassin when factions came out and was in love with the class. I used to come up with some crazy ass pvp builds that virtually raped anyone. Oh god, im crying. This game was amazing.

I am now 53 years old and 15 years have passed since I played this game with my son. I so miss Guild Wars and the time we spent together. The game was simple. I still visit at least once a year to relive those memories. Thank you to AN for keeping the servers alive even though people have moved on. At least you can pull the leaver and get through the gate on your own these days....
A place where I learned my first language. I remember I started in Shing Yea Monastery and got an invitation to a guild I was amazed and proud to wear that cape on my back. My first black dye drop was in cantha, I didn't know what it was so I dyed my longbow xD I just love it, a great journey and experience carved in my heart.
I do remember Guild Wars fondly. It was there for me during a very difficult part of my life. The people I got to know there probably stopped me from going deeper into despair and starting to do drugs as a means of escape.
I remember getting the collectors edition as a kid and listening to the games soundtrack on CD every night to help me fall asleep. The next day I would jump on guild wars and everything else in life did not matter. Those early morning wake up's just to see friends across the world from my guild... damn the memories are haunting.

I got kinda obsessed with this game when I got it. A good MMORPG that you only needed to pay once as opposed to WoW? Incredible. Then the epic melancholical and beautiful world, with a sky always in twilight, and a hard gameplay. The incredible OST that has stayed with me forever. And the fact that no-one around me knew about this game only added to the air of mystery and awesomeness of it. Also the dark story and really scary zombies (plague) for a 12-year old kid.

SuperPritchy Sorry dude, I disagree with you. I think there are a lot of really innovative features in GW2 that hasn't been used in other MMORPGs. That's why I really enjoyed GW2. fuuuck i could cry 6:30 this song reminds me of a difficult life time when i came home, turned the pc on, guild wars 1 login into Factions place "Seafarer's Rest" then closed the eyes and let the dreaming began -> Guild Wars changed (saved) my life i want this time back where gaming was like family and a place with no FUCKING mobbing or discrimination because of bodysize, color or age etc.. For me and many other people, Guild Wars 1 was a haven while real life was shit
Its 2023, and i still love it. Good old times
Brilliant game, I'll always love it. As much as I like GW2, I'm afraid it'll never be the same as the good old GW1. A masterpiece it was, and still is.
+HompieGompie indeed it is!
For anyone wondering now about the Guild Wars series, Guild Wars 2 developers Arenanet have confirmed that they are now working on a third expansion and they teased concept art that looks alot like Cantha...
It's time to go back home for the Guild Wars Factions fans!
We spread the message to all GW vids I see
Cantha has since then been confirmed. I was over the moon... finally get to revisit my favorite areas from GW1
If i could i would invent a time machine for all of us die hard gw1 fans to step in and embrace every moment of the past we never made i miss this game so much i downloaded it again yes it is dead but i will never forget 55 and i started again 9 years later back on the drastically skill changed game and it depresses me how it can be so easily forgotten this game was a relic of the past and i like guildwars one better then guildwars two and there is hundreds of reasons why i still go back to guildwars one regardless of the harsh nerf hits and fixes of solo there will ALWAYS ALWAYS still be that build that still solos ALWAYS
I miss this game so much.
Then play it, it's still here.
Ethan Schenck no shit lmao
Ethan Schenck not enough people play anymore, and I'm pretty sure I lost my password
I been playing all day and have seen a lot of people on recently. It's starting to pick back up bro. Lot's of new players on lately that have never played before.
Nick sick dude, I might actually try to get back into my account. Had my favorite armor. Dread mask chaos gloves and elite kurzick everything else lol
gotta miss the old fort aspenwood battles, they were probably my favourite thing in GW! such a great game! i still play GW2 maybe once a month, but it didn't capture the magic that GW1 had.
+Raptor Jesus Miss Fort Aspenwood, too ... :(
NightwishaL sniping from the walls as a ranger was amazing :D
+Raptor Jesus tipHug
+Raptor Jesus Boy did you get it right. GW2 didn't nearly catch the magic that GW1 had. Even the music for GW1 so sublimely paints the perfect picture. Ahh I miss that game, and I feel bad for Anet, who just don't seem to have a clue!
I feel that the problem with GW2 is that it's just too easy. It doesn't capture the challenges we faced in GW1, I still remember failing a mission repeatedly and the rewarding feeling that was finally beating the final boss! I have never failed a single mission in GW2...
The Factions theme is the first piece of GW music I ever heard, back when I started in 2006.
I never asked for this... Adam
;_;
We all know that feel, bro...
I probably was the guy who standing right next to you in Shing Yea.
Guild wars is still around - granted, the player numbers are nothing like they used to be, but Guild Wars is still alive and well, and believe it or not it's possible to find people talking in the major outposts still.
Orientalmentor um, have you guys forgotten it's actually Shing JEA?
Luxon theme is one of the few songs in this world that I know, that can make me feel so emotional and self-reflecting on life and me as a human being. It's my favourite song ever, too short too.
beautiful comment
Rather display it in GW1 and throw the shit GW2 into the bin.
Hours and hours of sitting in the guildhall, chatting and drinking over Skype, doing ridiculous runs in lvl 2 maps, grabbing the occasional noob in Monastery and dragging them through the maps with one of our 10 char slots and each char had at least 2 elite armors... in every map there was one very beautiful place that didnt contain any mobs, you could just sit down there and chill out and enjoy the view.
damn i put so much time into that game. its such a shame it died.
i want to see those screenshots!
I always remember the moment i talked with some strangers in kamadan about Guild Wars 2 and how hyped we are about its release... What a fool i was, should have been glad to play GW1 in its full Beauty :/
Never talk to strangers in kamadan or the monastery likely to get pulled into some kinky shit xD
I had a gay kid tried to woo me at the Monastery once 🤣
I miss this game...
Where my Luxons at?
I know right...Luxons ftw !
I really wish I could go back in my childhood and play GW again...
+Azartax Same ;(
Luxon here praise thy turtle overlords
I switched often due to changing guilds every few months. Remember, whenever I was a Kurzick I'd call Luxons, Suxons. Whenever I was on Luxons I'd call Kurzicks, Kurdicks. Man 12/13 year old humour was amazing
yams oh my god i completely forgot about those abbreviations, makes me smile so much
Can't wait for the new expansion so I'm here - 10 years on and we'll finally revisit Cantha!
This was probably the best expansion after a base game for any MMO, ever to date. I loved everything; the sweeping visuals, the oriental-themed music, the story - how layered the city was. This really felt historic just playing through when I did (back in beta-launch+Expansion releases.)
So beautiful, in many aspects - and The Jade Sea is still one of my favorite areas to date. So pretty; and the music that accompanied it.
Jump to Lightspeed baby!
Anyone still listening to this today? I miss playing this game so much, such great times, wish it was still popular. GW2 doesn't have the same feel...
It might have it again in the new cantha expansion \o/
@@ImmortalityV oh really? I'll have to check that out
@@ryanv640899 yeah! It's just been teased currently but on the website the most recent post. Last paragraph, i can hear the music already... The hype is real!
Nice. I really enjoyed the factions expansion. Probably my favorite
I'm age 27 and this tears me up! Brings so much good memories... such a masterpiece. I'm glad i had the chance to play this game so many years ago. Thank you for this!
You Must be 29 now?
@@Jaguartmb turning 30 this year, still has alot of love for this ;)
@@Jaguartmb 31 in a couple of months, forgot that i had this comment to be honest, still coming back to this lol
Bro...you have done me a great favor by commenting on your comment again. I will now listen to this masterpiece and have the memories and music connect again.
Thanks man!
Coincidentally, this year, I am 27.
@@Jaguartmb You're welcome! Have a great time! All for the love
The sound of leveling up or gaining a skillpoint constantly runs through my head listening to this. So much Nostalgia
7 years... my god. Seems like ages but somehow not, well I miss Shiro... and my Dragon Mask =)
Damn, i forgot about my dragon mask. The dragon and chinese new year festivals were always top notch. Never thought id miss those as an adult
ok, let's bring this game back to life, everyone install it and lets play again together like the good old days
+Arlindo Baby please “val” I have it, but sicne they abandoned it the lag makes it totally unplayable, I gave up :/
lag? i dont get any lag on it
@@Ninnisha I no have lag..
i lost my passwords ... Got all expansions ... so sad.
@@frederiqueleguennic7816 write to arena net if they still exist haha
Assassin's theme... WOW Nostalgia attack. My first ever character in GW taking his first steps.
This game will ever be a part of me, my game experience and imagination are really influenced by this game. Just the first 3 sec of the song make me so much nostalgic. I will really miss this game. Please A.net bring us cantha in Guild Wars 2 with the same ambiance, I'll be so so much happy to play it again with a new point of view !
Loved prophecies so much. Like you say the ambience just takes you away to a whole new level of feeling,
So many great memories! Im usually not the type of guy who is subsceptible for nostalgia but I played it too many years for not feeling it when I hear this.
Kind of sad I will never live through this experience again.
4. Luxon Theme 6:30 ---> PERFECTLY WONDERFUL
And that's why Luxon > Kurzick
I love this soundtrack so much! Factions was my fav campaign, and still is! The Kurzick Theme gets me every time!!
Same here
In praise of an eternal savior of the Kurzick.
My first mmo, god what a joy.
This makes me dream of a new Guild Wars 1 spin-off with everything Guild Wars 1 had, just a completely re-written engine so there can be updates like in GW2. Dual-spec and the old 8 skill system, with a balance team isn't very hard. I don't remember many people crying about balance in Guild Wars 1 very often, they did a great job, no matter how hard it was.
long time no see cantha. but finally ....
Sad times. But rejoice! Cantha is returning in gw2 \o/
@@ImmortalityV that doesnt bring his friend back
Oh god, the nostalgia.
Oh the 55 HP Monk!!! I had forgotten about that until I read this comment. Bless your heart, Strife Fitness. Bless your heart.
so many memories, still the best and most fun game i ever played. this game has a soul
years passed, lots of ups and downs and always feel nostalgic about this music :(, so heavy on my heart, wish me luck please i really need it.
Hope everything turns out okay for you buddy!
together, we can bring the game back to life
I love you, marry me
I was no longer there for 3 years,
until yesterday.
All the people are gone.
All cities empty.
Pierre Chamli
haha sure !
*****
I'm not In Kamadan.
Nightfall I just played through and made the title lightbringer, nothing else.
Nightfall was the worst add-on of all for me.
+tom091178 "What has happened....the temple! I remained blind until it was too late.... Ai abaddon, jah hahna almighty abaddon! Varesh, what have you done!"
To be honest, I will probably keep listen to these pieces until I'm old. Man I miss treasure hunting everywhere just for that one special zone specific skin with hopefully good stats. Haha just me :D
Over a thousand glorious hours of my childhood is in this game... really brings up tears.
Assassin's Theme realy is getting me back to all those sleepless nights with GW.
Loved this game. Sad, that it's empty now.
The Luxon Theme is so haunting and beautiful!
Discovered this game 10 years ago, was entering high school, spent thousand of hours playing with people who became friends. I remember playing GW1 all night, parents could not understand but this game was bringing so much emotions.
Never bought GW2
Happy to see I'm not the only one missing it. Thank you GW1!
I still come back to GW1 all the time. I will always come back, because it's just too good to let it sit as a memory!
Just logged to my GW account the other day and checked my oldest characters age and he’s over 18 now!
I feel like tearing up, so many distant emotions.. everything is just so beautiful even after years
A place where I learned my first language. I remember I started in Shing Yea Monastery and got an invitation to a guild I was amazed and proud to wear that cape on my back. My first black dye drop was in cantha, I didn't know what it was so I dyed my longbow xD
I just love it, a great journey and experience carved in my heart.
I do remember Guild Wars fondly. It was there for me during a very difficult part of my life. The people I got to know there probably stopped me from going deeper into despair and starting to do drugs as a means of escape.
Nostalgia is too strong!!! This game is a part of my soul
I can't wait to go back to Cantha in Guild Wars 2's next expansion!! This is my favourite music from the games.
If only Jeremy Soule would release the music from Prophesies Factions Nightfall and EotN on Spotify i would be so grateful
This puts me back to being 14 years old.
Hearing Shing Jea Monastery is like coming home.
I remember getting the collectors edition as a kid and listening to the games soundtrack on CD every night to help me fall asleep. The next day I would jump on guild wars and everything else in life did not matter. Those early morning wake up's just to see friends across the world from my guild... damn the memories are haunting.
this journey never ends. love this game so much and playing it active since 10 years now.
Perfect way to hype up for the new expansion, whose trailer was just released.
Trop de souvenir ...Prophecies , factions et nightfall mes préférées
XTytoy on est les gameurs les plus chanceux d'avoir connu ce jeu
Exact Nick danielz :)
I miss this game so much... it was just perfect
Nostalgie...
Wow I did not appreciate this music when I was younger. Game literally changed my life though as I met my now wife playing this all those years ago. Ultimate nerd quest achieved, marry favorite guildy. Cant wait for End of Dragons
Luxon theme...
I miss the Jade Sea so much, the music really gave the idea of it being a wasteland, full of dangers
I just bought a factions collectors edition from ebay, totally worth the money :))
Cantha we'll see you later !
Damn, it was 7 years ago when I bought Factions....good feelings. Unfortunatly I don't play it anymore.
Checking in again after 13 years.
Checking in again after 16 years!
i miss this so much :'(
Hey, just want to check in, make sure everyone is doing alright. I was 18-20 when these games released, it was a critical part of my life and I'm sure you all can relate, just want to commune with ya'll and wish you well.
@@gerardmasip7177 me too! Literally all boxes checked on your points. I was completely obsessed with this game. The soundtrack was so good that sometimes I’d stay in an area just to listen to it.
Not the mention the events! God this game man, makes me wanna cry sometimes.
The fantastic memories in this game will never vanish :)
Still come here every now and then. So relaxing. One of the best OSTs I've ever listened to.
It's my entire childhood, but I love gw2 all the same. It's different, but it's lore has that unique Tyria climate.
GW1 lore > GW2 lore.
SuperPritchy
Sorry dude, I disagree with you. I think there are a lot of really innovative features in GW2 that hasn't been used in other MMORPGs. That's why I really enjoyed GW2. Also, absolutely stunning scenery and graphics for a MMORPG.
I love all the small references to GW hidden throughout GW2.
With that said, I will never ever say that GW2 is better than GW. And right now, I'm just as nostalgic as the rest of you. I'm gonna go and weep on my bed for a while...
omg , now I'm turn 30 and I'm playing this game when I was 14 , I just want to cry
This game was an absolute masterpiece that can not be topped for me. I miss those days more than anything.
the feels............
I was 9 when my parents bought this game for me (missed Prophecies, I started with Factions). I'm still owning my very first character, my beloved Ranger. He's older than many people running around here on TH-cam, considering I'm now 21 (and a half) years old. I played many other MMOs and enjoyed a lot of them, I really liked Guild Wars 2 and I recentely started playing WoW which I also enjoy playing now. But nothing comes close to the amazing time I spent with Guild Wars. This game is something very special among the hundreds of games I've played in my life so far and it will always be.
Thank you, that's the reason why i'm still playing this game.
The Assassin theme .... so many memories...
Some of these. Especially the theme.....is sooooo gooood n perfect for cantha gw. Until this day.....whn the note hits...eyes closed....takes me back to my fun faction days years ago
Luxon Theme 6:30 .... I've been trying to find this again. Close your eyes and remember when the World didn't feel so screwed up .... Just log online and let go of reality and all of your worries.
Finally - GW2 Cantha Expansion confirmed *cry*
just...goose bumps.. the best best mmorpg ever created, played far more than 1500hours and it was still fun ! Never forget the Guild Wars jouney
that is so beautiful, my heart breaks
Been like 7+ years since i listened to this and played the game, still love the feeling I've got playing it and exploring it.
it's just out of this world!
I miss this game so much, I now and then jump on GW2 just isn't the same. I gained atleast 10lbs summer vacation playing this game during junior high school. Would wake up at 10 AM and play untl 2 AM, rinse repeat. So much fun
this
The Assasin's Theme and the Ritualist's Theme. The Feels. Amazing.
i miss this game. One of the best...
We going back bois! Never been more excited for an expansion
it’s funny I was listening to Elder Scrolls and I heard a melody line that sounded familiar to me… realized it was from Guild Wars, didn’t realize Jeremy Soule wrote music for both until recently.
I believe he also wrote music for Skyrim which was pretty cool.
