Been chasing these things on fly for a few years now in the great lakes. I was out wading for smallmouth in knee to waist deep water and something picked up my clouser minnow. I didn't see the fish but man, judgin' by how that damn thing pulled, I thought I had a world record smallie on the line! But it wasn't jumping, which was pretty weird for a smallie... got it within about 20 feet and the fish pulled off... and a probably 15lb carp went rocketing right by my legs! Been hooked ever since. I'm addicted, can't stop.
When I was a kid in the late 1960s, caught big carp with my South Bend bamboo 7wt. using dough balls. People made fun of you for fishing for them, but I knew better, what fighters they can be.
