    Dear Pastor,
Thanks for sharing. Very interesting and thought provoking. I especially like the idea of Jacob's judgement brought in relation to Yahweh's judgement.
I proffer follow points as a layperson and reader of the Bible.
    1. Reuben by this time knew that he had lost Jacob's favor because his sin with Bilhah, as it's written that Israel heard of it (whether it's was generally known within the clan, or whether Reuben knew that Jacob was aware of it, are not certain, but quite probable. Perhaps it was Reuben's revenge for why Bilhah had borne children with Jacob in spite of Leah.
    2. Reuben knew that he had lost his position and prerogative as the first born (of no one other than Israel) to Joseph. It explains why the brothers and Jacob himself understood, but got furious over, Joseph's visions. So the rivalry of (and among) the 10 brothers against Joseph is understandable. Each one of them, being a son of Israel, and potential custodian of Yahweh's law, and oracles, hoped & aspired to be that successor of Jacob who would be the ancestor of the Messiah. We may relate this reason for succession to the accounts of Cain & Abel, Ishmael & Isaac, Esau & Jacob.
    3. But we still see Reuben in the big brother's kind hearted role when he advises against killing Joseph, comes back to take Joseph our of the pit and protests one what they had done with Joseph. He even reiterated it in Egypt when they were confined by Joseph. Later he pleads with Jacob and offers lives of his sons in exchange for Benjamin's life. So, he's overall not that bad, and a patriarch.
    4. Simeon's tribe was envclaved within Judah. It's had to be viewed how Judah & Benjamin are mentioned as the Southern Kingdom without an explicit mention of Someon. Moreover, the traditionally quoted 10 Tribes of the Northern Kingdom are not really 10 without counting Simeon, but that doesn't reconcile with the location of Simeon's portion in Southern Cannaan. Its true that they did not produce any notable leader in the times of the Old Testament. I once read about the traditions of the 12 Tribal Patriarchs. Simeon was believed to have, as his name means, a very loud voice / roar and extraordinary strength, so much so that during his confinement in Egypt, nobody, but a son of Joseph, probably Manasseh, could bring him under control. He indeed seems hot headed, yet a patriarch.
    5. Levi was not really scattered over the whole Israel as a punishment, but as a privilege. God said that He is their (Levi's) portion.
    6. Will our judgment really include our actions ie how we have been living ie will we be judged on the meit of our actions, or on our faith in the atoning blood of the Christ and our Justification through His Righteousness & Resurrection. Will our perfection or godliness have any role in the judgement on us. Or does the judgement include Sanctification (as the Roman Catholic Church would call), or Theosis (as the Orthodox Church would call). Or will the degree of our sanctification have effect on our eventual gifts in God's kingdom (,I think about the parable of Talents).
    6. Covering of one's sins: A good point for me to take from this sermon. It would definitely have reminded everyone of Psalm 32's starting verse:
O dhan jid de bashskey gye sub gunah,
The dhakkay gye saray ogan sada
    Sharoon
