Hi Tom, thanks for this free online course. When you added resources to bring activity 5 back on schedule, now the project though is on time but won’t the cost go up because of extra 16 hrs? After you made the changes the cost variation screen was showing zero variation. Am I missing something? Thanks
My apologies there might have been a glitch on that part as I recall. Yes if a resource is assigned hourly as work it is a variable cost and will adjust as the time changes. If it is assigned as a cost it will not change.
Hi , thank you for your valuable materials. I am following my MSP file with you, last session we put an update date and changed activities completion based on that, how can i remove the update date and it's affects on tasks ??
Go to the task menu and make sure you are in the task that you want to remove the update from and click the zero percent icon. Also you may like my playlist called msproject the course I provide links to files you can download in the video description.
Hei Mr. Tom, Thank you so much for your learning video. Your video are very helpful for me to gain knowledge in Ms Project. After watching your video for beginner until lesson 8. I have question regarding resource sheet. When we assign task with cost resource, it show the cost in the Resource Usage but the work is 0. If the task in actual is need work resource but the accrue/payment is lumpsum, May we put zero in Std. Rate (in Resource Sheet) and put Fix cost in the task? Thank you Regards, Dwy
Hi Dwy, I’m not sure if im clear on this but let’s try: if you are trying to monitor cash flow then cost will work for your reports as long as you accrue at correctly. On the other hand if you want to monitor hours the only way is with using tge work assignment on the resource sheet which will not align with lump sum contracts. You can use fixed cost though that is not its purpose but may provide a work around if you want to monitor hours of trades. Try it and let me know how it goes

Hi Mr Tom,
What happens when the project schedule is 56days behind schedule and over allocated but with no cost?
Not sure what you mean by no cost, but certainly you would try to figure out what got you there and take actions for a recovery schedule.
