You sound like an awesome AD to work for and learn from. I've been working in NYC as an Additional Set PA recently and learning everything about set life and the film industry has been such a cool experience. I hope one day our paths cross and I get the lucky opportunity to be a PA on a shoot with you as the 1st AD!
I've been watching a lot of your videos so not sure if all questions pertain to this one or others I've watched 1. To get your AD's for example favorite gum brought to set, do you ask Crafty? 2. Who is in charge of booking travel for cast and crew? 3. Where do you get the hot brick in the morning (to keep on you for other people)?
Thanks so much for watching my videos! To answer your questions - 1 - gum comes from crafty, so yep your right, but their favorite? Ask the AD what they prefer and once they tell you once log that in your brain. 2 - if travel is involved for crew the production office employs a travel coordinator 3 - hot comes from a few different places, brick box, walkie PA, there's usually charging stations in the AD office
I'm genuinely watching this just before I head off to be a runner on a big production. I've been one before but never on a big production, thanks for the video! And I definitely want to "join the dark side".
@@BeyondFilmSchool I worked hard and the 3rdAD seemed to recommend me, still too early to tell. Loved ever second of it. I heard for another runner and AD that this production tend to get you in for a few days as an unofficial "trial". But again, I'll have to wait and see. Looking forward to more of your videos, I know I learned from them ^_^
Lol you wanna join the dark side? Practical effects and locations department. Locations department especially, more coffee then you can imagine and all the memes about grips and cigarettes also apply then throw in every meme about beers 5 seconds after wrap. Transports also hilarious.
Your videos are so valueble! If you're working on a task (as a PA) and someone asks you to help with something, but you're too busy with aforementioned task what do you do? Are there levels of importance to tasks? I assume if you need to task change you walkie another PA to finish the other task.
That's a great question! If you're already given a task you tell the person that trying to give another one that so and so has you doing xyz task. Bc then they'll ask someone else or they'll tell you that it's priority, or they'll be able to wait till after you're done with your first task.
I'll still help you out! I'm a little bias bc I'm an AD. Lol but if you want to be a producer that's ok too. But usually you don't stay a set PA for very long
I enjoy the content So much thank you for taking the time to explain The Various careers there could be ❤✨️ Ad is something i've been doing studying about on the internet. What Would be Like A Pathway Towards AD lets say if I start as a PA what would Be going after that?
Hi Marco! Thanks so much for watching my videos! To a well rounded AD - AD on small indie stuff! But you need to do all the set PA spots. set PAs are the track to AD What area of the globe are you potentially working on?
@@BeyondFilmSchool thank You for the response actually I'm like at My Baby steps i'm planning On getting into a Film trade School Called Film Connection Here at Sam Francisco it's an externship 😅 But AD has brought to My attention 😬 i recently followed on Facebook you're the best never stop shining ✨️
Also a little question. I’ve worked with a few 1st and 2nd ADs who have told me to stay in contact to look for work. But I don’t want to annoy anybody with messages. How long is an appropriate time to wait to check in on available work?
Maybe 1 or 2 weeks Or if you know they hoped on toa new job at that point is a good time as well. Def do t bug them everyday. I'd say a couple weeks or a few weeks.

@@BeyondFilmSchool that makes the most sense, thank you!
You said you like PAs that aspire to be a future. What if they aspire to be a producer? That’s me

So is a set PA the American equivalent to a European Trainee AD?

Not exactly. Bc not all Set PAs become ADs
Maybe 1 or 2 weeks
