I went through the same conversation. I was sorely tempted by the Kobo Libra Color but then I thought about what I read and if I could justify the expense. I don't read comics, graphic novels, or magazines on my e-reader so the "need" for colour just isn't there. I read books exclusively so text is text, colour reader or standard. I also have a Kobo Libra 2 that's less than 2 years old and is performing flawlessly so, again, no justification to upgrade. I just decided I am good for now and maybe, in the future when the tech is further improved, I will make the choice to go to colour. Thanks for the usage tips and I might try Pocket.
the way i watched you talking yourself out of an ereader to talk myself into one 🤣 i really really want an ereader (most likely secondhand) bc for now i use my ipad but its fullsize and its huuuge and uncomfortable for reading, but it makes do so i havent been in a rush to get an ereader. i def want one though :')
OK soooo... I will say, if you don't have any e-ink device... I highly recommend lol. It's low key a life changer. However, there's a big trend of people having a bunch of them that I feel like for myself is unnecessary lol.
Also I will say I’ve had my kobo libra since 2020 it’s still working flawlessly, I see it kicking for a long time. Earlier this year I wanted a change so I downloaded Koreader to try it out and sync wirelessly with calibre and it almost felt like I had a new device for the first week I had it. Now when I’m sick of the UI I go back to the regular kobo UI and it’s like new again lol
I got the Palma cause I have really long train commutes that can be crowded and can use it at work and it looks like I’m on my phone. I also have a Libra h20 which is portable but more of a two hander in public. I love my Palma for my use case but would not recommend it to basically anyone outside my specific use case, the battery is not good enough for it to be an all day phone distraction replacement like some seemed to say it was; I play sudoku on it sometimes while listening to audiobooks and the battery goes down 10-20%
useful thoughts. My Kobo is becoming very outdated so I'm considering a new one. I'd like a bigger screen. I read a lot of library ebooks. Sadly my tablet is so old it is barely functional. Gosh I hate software/hardware obsolescence!
I've bought 3 new E-Readers this year (Inkpad Color 3, Libra Colour and Era B/w) and have no regrets. I don't have expensive phones or tablets but reading is my hobby and I like new gadgets every now and again... I always sell the older ones, though.
I bought four new ereaders in one month...I went a little crazy but like you I don't have expensive phones, tablets etc and my desk computer is ancient.
you are against consumerism, but you have to talk yourself out of buying yet another reader despite already owning several expensive devices for leisure time ? make it make sense
I genuinely don't know what you're talking about. I *didn't* buy a new ereader because I am against consumerism. Being opposed to consumerism doesn't mean that you aren't tempted by shiny new gadgets. I talked myself out of buying anything, got better use out of what I already have, and made this video to hopefully help myself and others gain tools to fight the urge to buy things we don't need.
@@joreneereads being against something very much means you don't get tempted by it, so you don't even get the urge. what you have is a spending problem you are fighting, not a principle.

I'm glad you found devices you enjoy!

I'm in the same boat. Have a kobo clara 2e and I'm so tempted by the kobo libra color and stylus. Do I need it? No. But do I want it? Yes 😔
lol we can resist! clara 2e's for [their] life!!

oh NO you caught me, i'm not a perfect human being
@@joreneereads clearly you are not against consumerism, so why did you claim it then ?

strongly disagree but ✌🏼
I definitely don't like the screendoor effect.
