      the paper shredder motor is strong. i scrapped 2 and have 1 for a project (the other was bad, so i scrapped the copper.)..
      i found a lot of computer disk drives, and worm drive motors are perfect for other projects. (besides, who could pass up a $1 disk drive, that has a $5 motor and other good parts?)

    All the other stuff aside, what I'm really enjoying about The Ben Heck Show is...watching Felix grow , show-by-show, ever more comfortable and confident in front of the camera. It's a joy to watch. I imagine that learning to be a presenter is a difficult task when you have Ben "So cheesy, they should call me Quesadilla" Heckendorn as a presenting coach! COOL! I've been doing this for years. I go to Goodwill about once a week and find some super cheap electronics that I can scrap. The thing I've been doing the past couple of years is getting an old portable DVD player (that takes video inputs), a child's toy laptop (Vtech or Leap Frog usually), and a classic console, along with a few other custom things I gotta do, and make a portable video game console out of it all.

      That's a very... ignorant stance.
      "He parodied that one thing, anyone *else* parodying that same thing is just copying him!"
      But I do think Ben adhered to the source material better here with the manufactured drama/ridiculous results conclusion. Linus had his own thing with just the vague concept to go off of while Ben took the satire to heart.

    Idea for the jumanji: physical dice are thrown on a one-way mirror that has a camera underneath for video-recognizing the face. The dice score will then be 7 minus the recognized number (opposite faces on dice add up to 7). To keep it low profile, you could install a 45° mirror under the dice-throwing surface so the light path gets deviated by 90°.

    • @allluckyseven
      @allluckyseven 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Davide Bongiovanni
      That's an awesome idea. You would need a special area to throw the dice into, though. (dunno how that works in the movie...)

    • @elasticdoor
      @elasticdoor 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah and it would also be relatively confined, but it would still be better than a simple readout, I think. Plus they already compromised on the track shape.

    Old amps/tuners can be handy for cases and sockets (if you're into building audio products). Potentiometers, heatsinks, relays, transistors and capacitors can be harvested. The latter 2 really need to be run on a tester to ensure they're worth keeping, though.

    I do this with my old electronics. Kinda makes me feel like a horder though. I did happen to find a trashed Yamaha home theatre amp on the side of the road which worked fine (had a broken volume knob, which I repaired). I've learned that you take screens, knobs, switches, dials, motors, heatsinks, and the like. I don't usually bother with smaller items now, as newer components are so cheap.

  • @TheScarvig

    well i always go for the printers, they got at least 1 stepper 1-2 dc motors a couple of light barrier switches a linear rod and often come with a scanner on top that brings you a glass pane some kind of long light source and another stepper. plus as always a fuckton of screws and if its a quite modern part most of them are the same, which is nice as you almost never nees one single screw of a type to attach something XD

  • @bikingnutcase0

    Good scrapping! I once used the IGBT's out of a broken TIG welder to make a 555 timer-based motor controller. It was fantastic, 200amps @12volts effortlessly wrangled basically for free! 5kHZ variable duty cycle, worked beautifully. Unfortunately I then connected it to a shunt-wound motor out of a hydraulic pump, which ran sweet as a nut on the bench, but immediately drew 400+ amps and burned out the IGBT's when put under load in a go-kart. DOH! Poor research about the motor scuppered that one. Unable to find any more solid-state components, I went to a massive relay from an automobile starter motor switched at 16HZ in the end, it was a bit jerky to say the least!!
    Anyway, I'd be intrigued to see the LC75392 electronic volume control used in a project, I'm soon to move from the middle of nowhere to somewhere with neighbors and have an idea for an automated volume control system that I can use to stop my 4kW horn-loaded P.A. system getting me arrested....... I feel a chip like the LC75392 could be the missing link, if only I could figure out the serial data aspect.....!

    The first rule of finding crap to take apart: sharing is caring. So Karen wins, anyway ;)
    But yeah I'd love to know what useful things you can do with old microwave parts. I assume the magnetron is only really useful if you want to, heat yourself/something up? Maybe the transformer, for getting tons of voltage? I've been taking things apart since age 10 or so (20+ years ago) and I love learning how it all works. Or if not learning, just finding cool things that seem important or in-the-future-useful parts.

    Great Scott!! The video was very cool, but you could have been more ecological by turning the equipments into something more useful instead of dismantling them to get few useful components and trashing 90% of the rest. For instance, the Typewriter could have been turned into a printer, as the stereo could have been upgraded with a bluetuooth connection and the paper shredder could have received an automatic paper feeder.

    I was wondering if salvaging the following chips ESMT M11B1616a - 45T or EliteMT M11BB416256A. They seem to be DRAM. Thank you in advance for your advice!
