      Since you're going to drain the big arowana tank, why don't you put clove oil, make him sleepy and he can wake up in a huge tank

    I think there should be a live camera on the website so we can watch the fish whenever we want.
    Also have a chat box so people can ask questions and get answers from other people or from you!

    I've been watching your videos for years since I stumbled onto your forum posts. I've probably modified and made 90% of the stuff you've posted and have literally took over my den with a combined 2300 gallons between all the aquariums and you pretty much just built one aquarium that is almost the same size as all of mine! I'm glad you got support for this and I wish I could do this myself some day.. I sure know my better half would appreciate my hobby out of the house. thanks for all the info and guidance in the hobby and I wish your gallery the best of luck

    I Think rounding the outside corners of the cement tank would give it a more natural look. not by much just getting rid of the sharp edge look and would make that rock wall idea look amazing in my opinion especially with a waterfall. as long as the small rounding doesn't effect the integrity.

    have you thought of using 3M 5200 sealant instead of sillicone? that's what we use for our acrylic-concrete tanks at my work. seals great to both surfaces also cures underwater if you need to make repairs.

    • @aquariumcontrarian4075
      @aquariumcontrarian4075 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sam Pierce +1 that. I always thought that silicone and acrylic bonds will fail over time, under pressure or not. Is that not the case?

    • @sampierce9290
      @sampierce9290 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Filip they can last a long time it's just a matter of serviceability. if you get a leak with silicone your draining the tank. 5200 you just go in and patch it up

    I'm so happy you mentioned Australia! We have such amazing, unique wildlife past the "staple" kangaroos that are little known to the rest of the world but deserve so much love! I'm definitely excited for the possibility of seeing fish in your tank that were a part of my childhood hanging around rivers. I have good memories of native fish, though I never kept any, just caught them or saw them while swimming.

    Hey if you want to do plants around the gallery than why not run them aquaponicly? that's one thing I'm currently working on with my 29. i first run the out put to a few layers of micron sponges then to a fluidized sand filter then down through a 40 gallon tote which holds herbs and other fast growing plants to absorb the nitrates from the water, then returned back to the tank via a bell syphon with a spray bar output. I'll be using a splitter to cycle some of the water to the filter and some back to the tank to maintain flow. with tanks your size you could literally supply a few families and if you go vertical like along the walls, it would like great and save space unlike flat bed growing and even better you don't need substrate!

    One idea that I had is that you should make all of the water from your tanks go into a septic tank. This would be great since you would return a lot of the water back into your groundwater supply helping the environment plus your backyard would get a lot of nutrients. This would make your groundwater supply practically last forever and you would help your city by NOT putting water that is not dirty into the sewer system.

    • @corysnyder1275
      @corysnyder1275 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I would not do septic, I would create a water garden and pump the water into that. Septic would be wasting most of it as well. Give it to some trees or other plants that can use the nutrients right away!

    could you maybe sedate the arrowana with clove oil to move him? just pour some into his aquarium and when he passes out you can move him into the new tank and revive him. I assume thatll be less stressful since he'll be passed out

    • @ellajohnson1177
      @ellajohnson1177 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      matt atherton I would think that is more risky than moving him awake. Sedatives such as clove oil are also use to euthanize fish and getting the perfect dosage is difficult for sensitive animals. I personally think netting him into a plastic tub with a lid would be minimally stressful and very safe.

    As I already said, I would love to see the concrete aquarium look like natural rock. I also really liked the idea of making some kind of a "rock wall", maybe including a waterfall. I'm convinced that will improve the look of the tank tremendously!

    Huge props for your dedication to the hobby. Have you ever considered the well-being of the fish though? How many of your fish would naturally choose to live in a barren wasteland? I understand its convenient for you to not have substrate or plants, but is it really fair to doom something like a Ray whose whole life revolves around interacting with the substrate to a barren bottom? Do you really think they enjoy an empty glass prison cell? Having the fish live in big empty tanks makes it easy for YOU to provide the bare essentials in life so they can be on display for your enjoyment. Would you ever enjoy your life if you were put in a big blank room and simply given food, water, and clean air? Most zoos have made great strides (at great cost and effort) to provide their animals with more natural environments. They have consequently found their health and well-being improve as it reduces their stress to interact with a more natural environment.

    i am so excited for all of this! I know you really care about your fish, so no matter how many you have, you will still do your very best to care for them.
    A goldfish pond outside the building would be awesome but I know goldfish are more of solid gold's type of videos

    Everything is come along well! I think you should go with the rock idea on the outside of the tank. Make it look as natural as possible. The end result is going to be sweet!

    the back wall would look great with a diy Bakki shower filter water fall. Tank walls would look great with stucco round river stone.
    Thanks for sharing your progress!! looks awesome!!

    Take your'e time Joey.Speaking for my-self, I can wait for this project to develope. The health of your fish is a priority. "Happiness is having something to look forward to".

    Hi Joey, congrats on getting everything this far... two things from me on the feedback you asked for:-
    "Ultimately though, the health of the fish is my number one priority, and always will be and always has been" ...I think this quote answers your own question about moving him twice. If he possibly won't be eating for 2-3+ months I think the answer is obvious.
    Regarding the finish of the big tank, do a search for "polished concrete" I think if a finish like that would be doable it would look stunning!

    Great update Joey, think the rock/waterfall idea with plants etc is a MUST! It was exactly what I was hoping for! One thing is, I think if that is what you are going to do it makes sense to continue the rock/stone facade around the front/side of the tank so think this is the best option and if thats the case, don't paint/seal the outside - you will get much better adhesion sticking to the concrete bare. Stoked this is progressing so well Joey. Peace Ben
