Rick Witt I love it as well but when it came out it wasn’t received so well by the core fan base. It is much more melodic and not thrash at all, so I understand why some fans didn’t like it. However I love it and always have. The guitar work is fantastic! The songwriter is fantastic.
Sorry, not a huge fan of Jugulator. Is it heavy? Certainly. Does Ripper scream excellently? Absolutely. Song-writing is a big problem on it. I like Cathedral Spires, Bullet Train, Jugulator, I guess Burn in Hell is nice. But c’mon, Brain Dead, Dead Meat and Abductors are so generic, it is hard to take those tracks seriously. Jugulator is better than Turbo or Rocka Rolla, but has nothing against the best Priest albums like Painkiller or Unleashed in the East. Ripper Owens or Halford, not a classic album, but not absolute crap either. However, I do respect your opinion. I simply don’t agree with the comment about people hating it because of Ripper Owens👍🏻
"Sound of White Noise" is *the* album that really got me into Anthrax and helped me discover how awesome Armored Saint's "Symbol of Salvation" really is.

Sound Of White Noise is an amazing Anthrax album. I love songs like Potters Field, Only, Room For One More, Black Lodge, Hy Pro Glo, and the rest alot. I did not really care for the second album with John Bush Stomp 442 that much. I only like a few songs from it.
It was a tough transition... but it sure as hell aged very well. I remember feeling WHITE NOISE was almost over my head, I was 14 and used to Songs about comics like you said. It is a phenomenal album. Bush is a whole other level of singer, no diss to Joey. I love both incarnations.

Sean Armitage Music I love Youthanasia but it was definitely a move into a more melodic sound a move away from Thrash. So I understand why people didn’t like it but at the same time I agree with you that it’s a killer album.

Thanks for doing these vids. Best songs on Helloween's Chameleon are "Giants" and "I Believe". "First Time " is a fun song too. Funny story about Savatage's Fight For The Rock. I used to work with Dr Kill Drums himself at Mars Music in Tampa Fl (he was a manager), and I brought that album in for him to sign. When I handed it to him, the 1st thing he said was, "Man, that's our worst album". LOL
Helloween used to be my favorite band some 10-15 years ago, and while i think chameleon is probably their weakest album along with everything after the dark ride, giants was one of my favorite helloween song. I believe is also really good one.
X Factor is the most underrated maiden album. I love the darker direction and it really fits Blaze's style more so than Virtual XI. 2 AM is a personal favorite
Awesome vid. I love Jugulator, heard Bullet Train on a CD given away on Metalhammer here in the U.K. always wanted to see Ripper Owens return to sing with Rob Halford on stage.
Helloween's 'Chameleon' didn't fit with the rest of their catalog, but it's a cool album when you know the story behind it. On all their other records they have a lot of shared songwriting credits. On Chameleon, they wanted to do something similar to the 4 KISS 'solo' albums, but condensed into a single release. The result is essentially 3 solo EP's, one each from songwriters Kiske (vocals), Weikath (guitar) and Grapow (guitar). They each wrote 4 tracks without any collaboration with the rest of the band, then got together to record each other's tracks for the album. They had just gone through a career-derailing lawsuit with their record label, problems with their management, and band turmoil over musical direction (singer) and one member's deteriorating mental health and related substance abuse problems (drummer). They knew the band was on the verge of a total break up or at least a major overhaul, so I think Chameleon was sort of their parting shot to the record company they owed one last album to, and a way of promoting their individual musical ideas to the public for any post-Helloween projects that may have followed. The 2 songs that sound the most like previous Helloween releases ('First Time' and 'Giants') were written by the band's founder Michael Weikath, so it wasn't surprising that he ended up keeping the band together with a new singer and drummer and returning to their much heavier power metal roots for the next release. 'First Time' is killer, and would fit in perfectly with their set list today. Kiske's 4 tracks resemble much of his post-Helloween output before going heavy again with Unisonic, and Grapow's were all over the map musically, but he stayed on with Helloween for several more albums as they returned to their roots, before eventually starting the excellent band Masterplan.
I think Chameleon gets a bad rep because it is such a huge departure from the Keepers era, and even a step away from Pink Bubbles, but if you listened to it without having heard anything before, it's solid. I think In the Night, I Believe and Longing are three hidden gems in the Helloween catalog that often get overlooked. The only song I don't especially care for is Crazy Cat, but even that isn't bad.
Good comment. I like Kiske’s subsequent work, and I do like Chameleon as well. Not their best album , and I get the criticism of many fans of their earlier work, Utd it is what it is, and I like it.
Dig your videos bro. I am also an East Coast banger. New Jersey home of hair metal and pollution. Those 2 things might be considered the same depending on who you ask lol. Ripper never got a fair chance and funny enough he can still wail and bent over Halford cant anymore. Same with Blaze. Up the Irons bro!
the X-Factor is actually my favorite Metal album of all time. I always listen from start to finish whenever i'm in a depressed state. It's got their best lyrics (Look for the Truth, The Aftermath, Man on the Edge), amazing melodies (2 AM, Judgement of Heaven, Blood on the World's hands). Blaze was especially powerful on this album. He's a baritone singer which was an odd choice but ultimately he brought Maiden to a sound that still hasn't been matched to this day. Fortunes of War is especially amazing live. The blaze era also evolved Iron Maidens song writing which lead to other amazing albums we know today (Brave New World, A Matter of Life and Death, Book of Souls) I love X-Factor to death. Will always be my personal favorite

Loved your video. I stumbled on to you just yesterday and I can't get enough. Love everything you post. I had no idea how many bands I never heard of. Please keep them coming.
Hi, Scott, nice video. I think Youthanasia is a really great album. Maybe more controversial was The World Need A Hero, a boring album with Savatage's Pitrelli, some good songs but lack of hook. Greetings!
I have two more suggestions for a third video Entombed - Same Difference. Entombed's "Black album" where they basically changed to a more commercial sound in the mid 90s Opeth - Heritage. They went full prog and people fucking hated it. Except me.
Kinda surprised about Youthanasia. I like that album quite a bit. Maybe not as good as Peace Sells or Killing is my Business, but still a solid album. Would be curious to see you do a 'love-to-hate' list of death albums (or even just melodeath). Bet there'd be tons of albums as a bunch of bands have really changed their sound a bit as time progressed.
Hey Scott- Stumbled on your channel recently and have really enjoyed the vids I've watched so far. Good content, and really love your humble, honest delivery. Count me as a fan.
Demon Dethchase Definitely a darker and sometimes slower Maiden. They really had been doing long songs since the first album with Phantom of the Opera and definitely since Rime of the Ancient Mariner.
@@nolifetilmetal1 I know, but it feels more so on the X-Factor, what with a fair few songs pushing the 6-7 mark. Plus you had The Unbeliever going beyond 8 minutes at the end there, to go along with the 11 minute plus Sign of The Cross. And it was their longest album at an hour eleven minutes until A Matter of Life and Death which was just a minute longer, excluding ofcourse the most recent double album effort of The Book of Souls, as ofcourse it would be the longest album. Plus it was a similar story with the other Blaze album Virtual XI, though no way in hell did Angel and the Gambler need to be just shy of 10 minutes! Its a good song in its radio/music video form at 4 minutes, but they were just ripping the arse out of it at about 10! No idea what Harris was thinking with that one. The Clansman, Lightning Strikes Twice and The Educated Fool are some stand out tracks on that album. I know opinions are a thing and all that, but it really sucks that neither X factor, or Virtual XI, get the love they deserve because its not Bruce. I'll stop babbling now, but one last thing! I put X Factor as one of my favourites from Maiden, along side Powerslave, Seventh son, Brave New World and A Matter of Life and Death
@@cheeseguy4998 that's cool dude, opinions and that. If we all liked the same thing it'd be pretty boring and we'd have a harder time getting into the gigs (whenever they actually start back up again... god I miss gigs.)
Youthanasia and Cryptic Writings are awesome in my opinion. Same with both Sabbath albums you showed. I still have yet to listen to that Judas Priest or Maiden record but will in the future. Glad you and others like them too along with a lot of those other albums that tend to get hate 🤘
Jugulator absolutely blew me away! It is SO heavy and mixing that with Classic heavy metal screaming was just so awesome to me. I had only heard a couple of the Classic priest songs at that point so I did not have that in my mind when I heard this. I'd actually really wish that there was a band out there with the Jugulator mix of HEAVY groove and Classic metal. PS: I can see that like myself you are a worshipper in the temple of Iron. Do you have any Work out video's or channels? Hail from Denmark! Tommy
I absolutely love Jugulator. it's one of my favorite albums of all time. and even though I really like Rob Halford 's vocals I personally think that Tim ripper Owens is better.
Wow, I thought you were gonna pull Supercollider. Was kind of surprised to see Youthanasia. Yeah, it is a bit more mainstream, but still has a lot of amazing songs on it.
"Sound of the White Noise" is my favorite album from Anthrax... and i'm not completely sure why: at some point i stopped caring about that, about why i like that version of Anthrax over belladonna's
and john bush is a far superior singer to belladonna, and armored saints best album is way fucking better than anthrax's best album. Too bad their label fucked them
I remember when it came out and I picked it up and listened to it. Definitely angrier than the Belladonna stuff. I always thought it was a good album, a welcome change of pace, if you will.
@@godetonter4764 i strongly disagree. Listening to john bush' version of metal thrashing mad after neils is like listening to michael jackson after listening to jonas brothers
@@ElevatedLevetator John Bush doesn't have even a quarter of the Vocal capacity or range that Neil Turbin has . Your not into Metal , you prefer Punk Rock. John Bush sounds like Joey Ramone compared to Neil's screaming operatic perfection. John Bush has a mellow low pitch Vocal, Neil Turbin screaming in 7 octave full Voice is much more intense than John Bush's limited Billy Idol type 3 note broken voice yelps
On that Helloween album, there were 2 reasons for the change of style on this & Pink Bubbles Go Ape. 1 was the chase for commercial success following "I Want Out!"; 2. Michael Kiske grew disillusioned with Metal, turned more faithful, and tried to clean up Helloween's overall sound.
I love the Youthanasia album. I bought the special edition with the Hidden Treasures bonus disc, which had a voucher to meet the band after a show, so also have an autographed programme from the tour as I saw them a week later.
Rock The Nations is the very first Saxon record I've heard. I had gone to a 1 month English language practice course in England with students from my high school. I remember raiding the metal section of a music store and getting all the Maiden albums along with Motörhead's Iron Fist and Saxon's Rock The Nations, on tape :)). I agree that this is not one of the albums that made Saxon the legend that they are. However it is the album that introduced the band to me and it is a very solid album. I still think the title song, Battle Cry, We Came Here To Rock and Northern Lady are awesome songs.
It’s probably the weakest Saxon album. I lost interest in Saxon after this one but rediscovered them since. Some great stuff recently. Innocence is a good one though.
Mahogany174 you might not have liked Destiny (another underrated album imo), but you’d have missed out on Solid Ball of Rock from 1990 which is fantastic and probably more of a truer Saxon album. Personally I like/love every album.
When it comes to both "Technical Ecstasy" and "Never Say Die", they're good albums. But they'll never be as CLASSIC as the first six albums("Black Sabbath" thru Sabotage)from the original lineup of Black Sabbath. And "The Sound Of White Noise" is the album that got me into Anthrax back when it was released in 1993.
Sound Of White Noise is a KILLER album. And I love the slight Alice In Chains influence. Technical Ecstasy has a few mediocre songs, but also some great songs, like Gypsy, You Won't Change Me, Backstreet Kids, and Dirty Women.
TOTALLY agree with your comments on Ted Nugent's "Penetrator", though I loved "Tied up In Love". Same style on "Little Miss Dangerous" but I liked that one, too! I feel the same way about Motley Crue's 1994 S/T lp w/ John Corabi It's a great album that had the misfortune of being the first without V. Neil; my buddies & I were tailgating outside their farewell show in Philly and plating this album; the (much)younger fans parked around us LOVED it, had no idea that it was Crue! Kids....
@@jimthar17 I thought that is was released after Lou played at the 30th anniversary shows Metallica did, but it was actually after the Hall of Fame induction. It was a case where the Lou Reed fans hated it because Metallica played on it, and the Metallica fans hated it because it wasn't a Metallica record. It was a hit-or-miss situation, and it missed horribly.
Jugulator is an awesome record. Cathedral Spires is one of the best power ballad-ish songs ever released. Renewal was the first Kreator record I go into in highschool when it came out, great record that doesn't get its due. Youthanasia is a great, rock structured record, but man I dunno about Risk. Might have to revisit that one but boy, that was a rough record to accept. Cheers.
I finished watching Twin Peaks S03 today and I was watching this video and that Anthrax album was mentioned, I was like OK let me check it out, and there was this song called "Black Lodge", a song that I liked a lot when I was a kid but completely forgot about, and now I feel like Major Briggs himself made me listen to this song years ago so I can just have this moment. Maybe you are mayor Briggs???? hahha It's all coming together now! "Is it future or is it past?"
I remember being shocked by Mille's vocal change on Renewal when it came out, but I always liked the album overall. And yes RISK is total crap! But I dig Cryptic Writings and Youthanasia.
You considering doing a Top Hard Rock albums? For me it would be: 1. Appetite for Destruction -GNR 2. Back in Black - AC/DC 3. Paranoid - Black Sabbath 4. Led Zeppelin lV - Led Zeppelin 5. Pyromania - Def Leppard
I've been an extreme Kreator fan since Pleasure to Kill. I love Renewal. It's heavy in an atmospheric kind of way. I think the riffs are simpler but the arrangements and tones so cool to me. Personally I have no problem with bands choosing to stay close to the sound that works for them their whole careers like the Peppers or switching things up. I thought Elements of Anger from Sadus was amazing too. If I don't an album then I don't like it. Big deal. The vitriol some fans spew out towards musicians is unfortunate, whatever their motivations. I had the same problem with Metallica before I finally let it go. Nothing lasts forever.
Great video Scott... I dig most of these bands... Specially the Megadeth album's... Risk, Cryptic and Youthansia...I dig some song's on all but Youth is tops on all... Kreator is killer too! Thank's Scott! 🤘♥🎶🎼👊
I loved Mortification's death metal stuff. Their later stuff wasnt as great but it was still pretty good. Random question, but have hou ever heard of Living Sacrifice? Phenomenal band.
Joshua Roberts I have all Living Sacrifice CDs. I love the first album. Like their death metal albums and the groove metal of Reborn. I am not really a metalcore fan so most of the stuff after Reborn isn’t my thing.
Cool video, enjoyed this second round of albums Metal fans love to hate. Rock for Nations was the first Saxon album I ever heard back in the 80’s and really didn’t like it. I did eventually discover the better Saxon catalogue but it took me a while before I tried the band again. Hope you had a good 4th of July holiday weekend. By the way, I’m a big flyers fan as well.
I've always thought X-Factor got short changed because everyone, you included in the songs you named, were comparing it to the first ten years albums, it loses to the first seven albums. Comparing it to No Prayer/FotD it ranks so much better. In many ways them reuniting when they did was upsetting because Bruce's solo stuff was killer along with 2nd tier Maiden album, instead of basically 2nd tier Maiden albums since then. Still first class live though.
Never Say Die! is one of my favourite albums from the original band. There's a dark, jazzy vibe throughout ("Air Dance" and "Junior's Eyes" especially). It sounds like no other Sabbath album, but it still sounds like... Black Sabbath.
Who the hell doesn't like Youthanasia? That was a fantastic record; one of my favorites. Ridiculous.
Rick Witt I love it as well but when it came out it wasn’t received so well by the core fan base. It is much more melodic and not thrash at all, so I understand why some fans didn’t like it. However I love it and always have. The guitar work is fantastic! The songwriter is fantastic.

Greetings!
Awesome video!!
Thank you.
Anthrax "This is not an Exit" OMG that song was so heavy.....
I have two more suggestions for a third video
Entombed - Same Difference. Entombed's "Black album" where they basically changed to a more commercial sound in the mid 90s
Opeth - Heritage. They went full prog and people fucking hated it. Except me.
I liked Heritage just fine.
@@napoleonsolo5929 Well there's two of us then. I remember it being pretty much universally hated when it came out.
That KREATOR album was my first from this band and I absolutely love it still do .
Hey dude dig your channel had a request for you was wondering if you would rank the deliverance albums from worst to best
People don't like Sound of White Noise? That album rocks!
You won't get an argument from me, but no, many people hate SOWN.
I think that Stomp 442 is way worse.
I liked that Priest album, was my first one of them as well 👌
Bloodworld is a great album, love it! I think that "Symbiosis" may have been an outtake from PMA, it was on "Live Planitarium."
Hey Scott- Stumbled on your channel recently and have really enjoyed the vids I've watched so far. Good content, and really love your humble, honest delivery. Count me as a fan.
New to this channel, loving it, how about some Prong?
X-Factor, where modern Maiden began with the softer slow builds and longer songs
Yea i don't care for that album much
@@cheeseguy4998 that's cool dude, opinions and that. If we all liked the same thing it'd be pretty boring and we'd have a harder time getting into the gigs (whenever they actually start back up again... god I miss gigs.)
Except X-factor was good
Youthanasia and Cryptic Writings are awesome in my opinion. Same with both Sabbath albums you showed. I still have yet to listen to that Judas Priest or Maiden record but will in the future. Glad you and others like them too along with a lot of those other albums that tend to get hate 🤘
al jourgensen did some amazing remixes for sound of white noise... i think some of his and anthrax's best work
Jugulator absolutely blew me away! Tommy
"Endorama" by Kreator!! Every single Kreator fan I know hated that record. (I like it, anyway...)
Mille blames Grunge for that. Thash crisis in the early 90th etc...bla...
@@ElevatedLevetator Neil Turbin blew them both away. Fistful of Metal makes any Anthrax , or Armored Saint album sound like Bon Jovi
Such good content keep up the amazing job man
On that Helloween album, there were 2 reasons for the change of style on this & Pink Bubbles Go Ape. 1 was the chase for commercial success following "I Want Out!"; 2. Michael Kiske grew disillusioned with Metal, turned more faithful, and tried to clean up Helloween's overall sound.
@Scott Waters ...what was playing in the background?
Great video. "Just Push Play" is noticeably absent. Lol.
Just Push Stop
Aerosmith? Seriously, if they're metal than so are the Stones.
Shayne West What about Kiss?
Sound of White Noise May be my favorite anthrax album. Among The Living might be my all time favorite but SOWN is right there.
"Rock The Nations" is actually my favorite Saxon song. I'm more of a Power/Hair metal guy.
sirroxalot I love the whole album. Party Til You Puke is a bit weird.
Personally I like/love every album.
kennedymark1 I have heard them all now thanks to a Spotify. There aren’t many low spots. They’re a great band.
Mortification was actually awesome for sure. Did you have the Nuclear Blast VHS tapes??
Jugulator is a great cd. Cathedral Spires awesome song. Tim Ripper Owens is great.
Awesome....Ted Kirkpatrick signed drum head behind you arguably one of the greatest thrash drummers ever (my opinion) and Vengeance album under it.
Sound of White Noise (Bush) and Persistence of Time (Belladonna) are my two favorite Anthrax albums.
Great video and channel
Halloween, one of my all time favorite bands. Definitely "chameleon" not a normal style for them. Thank you for including them on your list!!!!!!
Sounds of white noise is one of my favorite Anthrax albums
Well we have that in common. Love it as well.
I felt like Broken Heroes was very much like Dallas 1 PM as far as the feel of it. And I like both of those albums.
Bazillion is a perfectly acceptable word to describe a s*** ton of something. I use it myself. You're all good dude and thanks for the videos
Kids....
I actually like the Penetrator now. When it came out it was a bit of a shock.
I thought that Helloween album on the last video, but then i dont mind a few of the songs on there, i dont mind the song First Time, catchy and hooky
So nobody will mention Lulu and Illud Divinum Insanus???
LULU is technically NOT a Metallica album, it's a Lou Reed album
@@jimthar17 - Technically it's a piece of crap album - lol - but you're right ;)
@@jimthar17 I thought that is was released after Lou played at the 30th anniversary shows Metallica did, but it was actually after the Hall of Fame induction. It was a case where the Lou Reed fans hated it because Metallica played on it, and the Metallica fans hated it because it wasn't a Metallica record. It was a hit-or-miss situation, and it missed horribly.
Cool content, new sub 🤘
I still give Kreator 'Renewal' a spin from time to time.
All Kreator is terrible.
Not a fan of that album i like old Kreator the best
Jugulator is an awesome record. Cathedral Spires is one of the best power ballad-ish songs ever released. Renewal was the first Kreator record I go into in highschool when it came out, great record that doesn't get its due. Youthanasia is a great, rock structured record, but man I dunno about Risk. Might have to revisit that one but boy, that was a rough record to accept. Cheers.
I love that Anthrax album, its my Favorite one.
blows my mind how anybody can hate on Jugulator. I thought it was close to a classic the first time i heard it
Simply put, many people will not accept Priest without Halford regardless of how good the music is. I obviously disagree.
For me it would be:
1. Appetite for Destruction -GNR
2. Back in Black - AC/DC
3. Paranoid - Black Sabbath
4. Led Zeppelin lV - Led Zeppelin
5. Pyromania - Def Leppard
would love to here your opinion on manowar - gods of war , a lot of people seem to hate cause it sounds different from the older albums
Hi
I agree with all the choices you gave, mind you like Saxon innocence album.
Also, please tell me what's playing in the background ?
Sounds cool.
@runnerjma this is a cool video idea i have seen Blagorath do a video like this!! 💯💯👋
@@nolifetilmetal1 Really? I love death metal myself, but i think Conceived in Fire and Ghost Thief are excellent albums!
Joshua Roberts I have em both. Neither do much for me. I don’t dislike them I just never really spin em.
I love being a metal head hahahha , GREAT video .
16:37 - that Savatage album does have a good cover of "wishing well"...
L. Salisbury Agreed.
I'm from Philly myself and loved Sound of White Noise. Some heavy heavy riffs on there.
Mortification’s first album is one of the top ten thrash albums ever made. Fight me.
Boris Van Druff No argument from me. It sits more comfortably with Kreator, Sepultura and Sodom than Carcass, Morbid Angel and Obituary.
Scott Waters EXACTLY. Well, maybe in a similar vein to Altars of Madness. But that’s where the death metal similarities end.
Cryptic Writings? She Wolf- That riff melts mountains.
Yeeeessssss... BUT... can't compare it with "Peace sells", "Rust in peace", "Countdown", "Youthanasia"...All Masterpieces...
@@damienlejeune97 Peace sells is my favorite thrash album of all time.
@@vargsburzum Could listen to it every morning when I go to work...
damien lejeune Haha! You work at Devil’s Island huh?
Bodhi.Dalton She-Wolf is great!
