When in the old days, if you have a field of 60 to 82 cars? And more than 60 running on a track? You tend to have a much bigger wreck that is much bigger. Modern NASCAR can't beat the old record.
There was a wreck back in the 50's that had like 50+ cars involved. There is video footage of it and it's pretty crazy to see, they just kept plowing in there at full speed one after another, the whole field. ARCA brakes to the extreme. Think it was at Darlington. Also, the 2014 Coke Zero 400 at Daytona had 28 cars involved as well so I don't know when they officially started documenting the amount of cars involved in these wrecks but it couldn't be more than 10 years.
It feels like the early 2000’s super speedway racing never left.
