Thanks for your incite, I am building now 24X34X14 with the 12X10 door on the side. I too added a bathroom 6X6 with a urinal! I will be viewing your compressor set up and look forward too the next one.
Good informative video! I'm building a 24' by 30' shop with a 20' parking canopy in front. Slab is down, and bones are up. Roof and siding going on next week. I like your paint scheme! I have a friend that is an architect, he drew up plans for me! Best thing ever! We poured 2' deep by 12" wide beams in slab on both perimeter and across the shop both ways. Lift will be installed over the beams. 12' exterior walls, and 4x12 pitch roof. All insulated with 4" insulation. I plan on an exterior compressor "closet". No bathroom, not that far to house, but will have sink. LED lights. High lift doors, 2 that are 10' x 10' and one personal door. Weld plates infront of shop for moveable winch for pulling cars in. Overhead track system for the moveable winch for lifting engines, parts, etc.....on rollers.Waited 30 years for this, wish I was still as young as you!! ;)
I've had a 10,000lb Rotary 2 post asymmetrical lift for about six years now. The ceilings in my shop are 12 feet and my posts fit fine as is, but you might want to add a hole for car radio antennae to pass through, lol. The lift manufacturer called out for surprisingly little in the way of concrete. I did that whole pad seven inches deep, 5000 lb mix, and then the lift instructions would've been happy with like 4 inches if memory serves. I was shocked! If you decide to buy a used lift, be careful, Hilti makes special anchors just for use with car lifts. But I'm guessing from the looks of your shop, there will be no used lift. Lol
Thank you Jay! I met you at MVP last year and we talked about your garage. It's my turn to build a 2 or 3 stall detached and I am going through your series for more ideas and tips. Thank you again!
Thank you very very much. I am having a 30x40x10 shop put up. I Have had a few issues with my site and just things are not lining up. Sat here and watching your video and paused it, and talked to my wife and will put it on hold until winter is over. We live in Montana and winter has finally hit. It was suppose to go up February 5th start date. But now have decided to wait until spring. This way I can get my septic in and such before the building starts rather then after it is up. Didn't think about sound deadening material but it is on the list now LOL. Keep you videos coming I already learned. Thanks
Another informative video. My neighbor has turned his attached garage into a woodworking shop. He is able to access the storage space above the garage from inside his house. He installed an electric lift that fits between the ceiling “beams” With a two way switch he can raise or lower this lift from his attic space or the garage. Of course you’ll still have to use the pull down stairs to get you in position to unload or load the lift. This lift fit flush with his garage ceiling when retracted.
Your shop build was excellent. I have been wanting build a garage like this. The most important thing I took away from your video was planning. Thank you
Watched ur vid at 330 am today. Awesome. Subbed and notifications marked. I have an existing 20 by 24 barn style w 2nd floor that needs some work....now I'm motivated! Thanks a million.
cool shop, I have a ways to go yet with mine but its getting there little by little, I put the 3/4 shop air in like you have and man my half inch impact is a beast now with all that flow I fear no rust lol, keep up the good work
I would look into a Max Jax...they will lift a vehicle as high as you really need and you dont have to worry about them always being there to have to walk around them. Great video as always and looking forward to more
I'm north of you a bit, in KY, near Ft. Knox. Had a 30x50x12 insulated pole barn type garage built around 2008. Gosh, regrets now about wishing I'd put more thought into it.🙄 Example: My neighbor said I outta run water out to it, slope the floor to center with a drain to outside. Wish I'd done that. D'oh!😲 Nice video!
Hey thanks for providing some ideas for my home garage (19ft wide x 23ft deep) which is in the early stages of construction. You gave some really good suggestions. Thanks again.
New sub - nice build! I know it's an older video but I'm currently renovating my 1-car garage and have been getting cool ideas. I also have a Camaro and 4Runner.
Great looking shop. Instead of the ceiling height, more utility cost, deeper concrete padding and a hoist that also requires maintenance, what if you dug 6 feet into the ground with a few steps that covers when not in use so that you can park car over it and walk under it?
Believe it or not there are codes around holes in the ground haha. I didn't check locally on that but best to consult with your builder for your particular area.
I think you covered it front to rear very well. Here in Calif It would be some big $ to do the same. Are the lights LED ? There are wireless remote controlled options. Did you consider ceiling fans ? Your garage is first class !! Nice job Speedy. 👍🏻
Yeah I bet in CA it would cost a fortune as most things do out there it seems :/ The lights are T54 fluorescent bulbs. I considered LED, but at the time I was choosing lighting they were expensive compared to the T54. I also found the T54 bulbs on clearance at HD, for like 75% off, and that sealed the deal on those haha. If building today, I'd compare to LED for sure before making a decision as things get cheaper over time.
If you have room in the attic. A simple winch type parts elevator would be great. Still use the stairs you have, and the build specs wouldn't have to be for a person lift.
hello speedy great job on your garage, i know you have the recess in your ceiling for a lift but i think now they have lifts where the posts dont need that kind of height anymore which i think would look better and also you might want to put in the Fujitsu heat and air conditioning system they work great and are very economical, other than that awesome job best of luck to you and miss speedy happy new year steve
@@SpeedysGarage lol, naw you got it right cause the people are just as outrageous as the prices, attitudes, laws, and politicians. I'm sure you know what state I live in. Keep up the great work and nice garages.
I'm a contractor and I would have surely told you 19 feet would not be enough,,,and I would have suggested that you just extend the doors with a roof just over the garage area,,and not change room above,,,where there's a will there is always a way...you never want less then 24 x 24..
I am getting ready to do the same thing. Good information and a few things I had not even thought about. Is there anything you did that you would do differently if you had to do it over? Great video.
I am a plumber an I hate grinder pumps on toilets I once had one that a lady flushed a hand towel down and jammed up the grinder needless to say it was a gross one to fix.
There really isnt any that I'm aware of you went with what you needed to make it happen I dont run into these grinders alot but when I do its typically because someone flushed somthing that they should not have. Basically when your water flows up hill or if your drain pipe is less then 3 inch atleast here where I'm from you have to have a grinder its a every state verys but that was about the only option you had that in aware of. nice garage though. Maybe one day I will get out of my pole barn and the dirt and have a setup like yours
only 5 min in and ur builder or blueprint person should be fired! 19ft,insane for new construction..the other thing that is a must on a house garage,a 18ft wide double door, not 16ft!
i was infuriated for you what the builder did with that tiny garage. they are supposed to be the professionals, they are supposed to ask the questions. i don't get it, they don't care if someone is happy with they product, on to the next half assed project. ask me, tell me the price, and let me decide if i want the option. our builder didn't ask us about garage size, widow size or placement, nothing. most of us don't know enough to even ask the important questions. a good builder will ask what you are looking for, and then offer a series of, have you considered this, type questions.

Put another attic door above the lift. Very nice job. I'm jealous. That would be at least a million dollar garage where I live.
WOW, no offense but makes me glad I don't live in your part of the world!

Great video...Good information. Looking forward to the next one.
What kind of paint for epoxy floor did you use. Looks good. I will have metal wheeled cart rolling sometimes on mine.
There's a video of it in the Shop Build play list.
Add a hand held bidet to your bathroom. Real cheap from home depot!
Nicely done. Check out Versa Lift. Its a attic storage lifting system.

What was the overall cost? Are there any expenses that, in hindsight, you felt were not worth it?
Hi Speedy. Nice shop and good info.

Yuck! What other options are there for a situation like this where water has to flow up hill to the main lines?
There really isnt any that I'm aware of you went with what you needed to make it happen I dont run into these grinders alot but when I do its typically because someone flushed somthing that they should not have. Basically when your water flows up hill or if your drain pipe is less then 3 inch atleast here where I'm from you have to have a grinder its a every state verys but that was about the only option you had that in aware of. nice garage though. What are you using for material for air hoses?
Make another opening in the ceiling and Get a used electric forklift to lift parts and boxes when your done move it out of the way
Beautiful shop man! No hate or anything but is there a reason you didn't put your airlines behind the walls?
Mainly for any required maintenance. If there was ever an issue you'd have to tear in to the wall to get to the lines.
It sounds like you need a new realtor
Once the lift is installed and a car is on the lift, are you able to pull another car in the garage behind the lift while in use?
Yep, I made sure I had room for that.
Nice Build, I would have buried the air lines in the wall.
I was worried if there was ever a leak it'd be major surgery to fix.
Where 'bouts in middle Tennessee?
