This is one of the greatest gifts you can give to the world. When I first heard about the fire my heart was broken. But I believe the knowledge you've shared will ripple out and benefit the world at large. I'm so thankful for your life's experiment, and I hope to follow suit.

This is what will save the human race. We have strayed far from our purpose on this planet and are actively destroying life as we know it. Keep up the great work and I hope your life’s experiment can be transformed into a revolution of change.

Joe is an inspiration; his vision for Mountain Gardens well offsets 'modern' times. Though this could be unaligned with Joe's vision, I propose a digital extension to Joe's Mountain Gardens vision: a Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO). A DAO is a novel, self-governing organization that uses a consensus model that incentivizes 'actions for rewards.' The purpose of the Mountain Gardens DAO is to establish a self-governing network built on collective interests, promote botanical knowledge, tokenize the knowledge, while democratizing the digital information (analogous to a digital herbarium/apothecary/library). In effect, participants become apart of a self-governing network of people (novice-expert) that are all devoted to benefitting earth, humanity and themselves (the metaphorical mycelium in a digital mychorrizal network of botanical information). Information is shared, broken down, and redistributed among peers. The network is flexible, and automated. The DAO is a self-governing, digital representation of Mountain Gardens itself--chore duties are automatically assigned and scheduled, seed orders are queued straight from the website, plant-walk tickets are managed, digital copies of literature are stored and referenced automatically where applicable.
Regarding aforementioned action-reward model, the 'action' could be identifying a plant species; building a greenhouse; identifying plant characteristics; sharing medicinal uses of plants; sharing when to plant certain species; sharing when to harvest species; describing preferred plant habitat; general descriptions of the seasons' growth; explaining how to prepare extracts; validating herbal benefits; coordinating logistics; scanning resumes and ranking candidate fitness; debating soil amendments; mapping physical soil characteristics by location; recording testimonies; conducting interviews of western medicine pioneers; digitally mapping plant species around Mountain Gardens; planning future expansion, etc. In some cases, the 'action' is performed by taking a picture, in other cases the 'action' is a response to someone's question. The 'action' could also be a vote, or even a proposal.
The 'reward' for any given 'action' could be a unique, "Mountain Gardens Token." Tokens can represent a constellation of 'things' (both good and bad) including but not limited to: time-stamped seeds (harvest information included upon purchase); digital workshop stickers/badges; class certifications; images; proof-of-privilege (e.g., skip chore shift, extra chore shift as punishment); information; experience; milestones (e.g., most weeds removed); awards; certifications; recognition; devotion; lessons-learned (e.g., animation of cause-and-effect); authenticity (e.g., western-medicine badges); scientific results; research publications; tricks-of-the-trade; herbal remedy treatment, compost recipe, models of soil biology, functions for higher yields, chemical equations for tinctures, or money (the same way a concert ticket is worth money to a broad audience). Almost becomes a video game in real life!
The DAO democratizes who the healers are, who the builders are, who the researchers are (plus their credentials, data, studies, and accomplishments), who the best cook is, where the ginseng grows best and why, demonstrates sustainable harvesting practices (graphically over time, pictures, animation, text), etc. While tokens are public, they can be formally owned and exchanged among peers--or even viewed on an interactive map! Tokens are the public, face value, while the underlying information is what is really desired/withheld by the MG community. For example, once the western-medicine healing badge token is earned, perhaps with a class certification, the unique token may contain the following: authenticity of ownership, proof-of-knowledge (maybe a mock quiz), pictures, bibliography of medical references, healing evidence, preparation procedures/testimonies, interview recordings, plant database, recipes, rituals, chemical equations, journal, and historical context) could be converted into actual money (someone from a different country could buy it over-the-counter), or it could be worth a myriad of information to those that want to learn more about healing using western medicine in the Mountain Gardens community and shared for free. Two people may have a western-medicine healing badge token with different contents! The tokens create a trustworthy profile for full-timers and WWOOFers to interact and exchange information with between face-to-face interactions--or the token could act as a scaffold for face-to-face interactions. In summary, a DAO will democratize a living, digital, interactive book-of-knowledge for Mountain Gardens, wherein value is held by a unique measure of 'good' not money. Hope you are able to make a full recovery from the library incident. Thank you for all you do. Please reach out to me if you have any questions!

I just discovered you on Peter Santenello's channel. I wish I had known about you 10-20yrs ago. I believe you can still get that book published w/another's help. I hope I get to meet you some day soon. I'm 56 I know a bit from working 22yrs at a natural grocery store in SF,but it would had takin a life time to learn about everything in that store. I'm getting a late start in being self sufficient/growing veggies & herbs. I suppose itz never too late, you learn until your time is up on this earth. I will be emailing/communicating w/you,checking out your website>I need seeds when I start my garden. I'm on my next important chapter of life, not sure where I'll be. I hope I can live like you & continue w/being an artist w/leather tooling, sewing on my industrial. I got many more hats I wear, too many to list. Learning to grow herbs & making tinctures have been on my to do list for 30yrs. I visited a company that made herbal tinctures in the 90s LA. I believe thatz when the light bulb went off over my head. I wanted to start my lil garden at the beginning of this year but now here I am mid way thru Aug. I really hope I get to meet you in person & see everything you are growing & built.

When I was 22 I felt like I sold myself for my paycheck. It was a glamorous high profile professional environment and I eas at the front- just doing good work with admin and people skills, as was taught - but I used to say back then I felt like a prostitute in that I felt fake, I guess, selling my skills for a paycheck. I didn't mean to feel fake, but deep inside I was not on my true path.
I was surprised to hear him comment in that direction on this vid.

there's one perspective to look at civilization as a cancer but to me it looks like a superorganism. i'm of the mind that in most contexts the best way to think about and predict the behavior of ants is to interpret the whole colony as a single entity, and i think it's only our egos keeping us from reaching the same conclusions about ourselves. i'm fairly certain i dont like the behavior of this (relatively) new beast rampaging around gaia and i certainly dont want to fuse my body into it
