Dracula's Castle (4K Extreme Low-Light) POV - Lagoon Amusement Park

- Dracula's Castle is a classic dark ride with a slow moving vehicle, creepy music, and gags that pop out at you in certain areas. The ride takes visitors through the many areas of Dracula's home. Watch out for some of the inhabitants, they like to scare people who are exploring the hallways.
The ride was built in 1974 by legendary dark ride designer Bill Tracy. It is one of the final rides that he build before his death. It is one of only eight remaining Bill Tracy attractions (Terroride is also one of the eight).
The ride travels through the following rooms (listed in order):

Dungeon Room

Grass Shaft (Grumpy Gargoyle)
Dracula & Morgana
The Dracula figurine standing in the East tower outside of the ride is the actual Dracula animatronic that used to be located in the Dungeon Room. Dracula used to be the focus of the ride (hence the name). When a car entered his room, he would call to Morgana. Morgana's head would appear inside of the crystal ball sitting next to him, and they would have an exchange about the people in the car. The dialog went like this:
Dracula: "Ah, ah, vistors. Morgana, come!"
Morgana: "Drop dead."
Dracula: "Fresh blood. I want them."
Morgana: "They shall not escape!"
The Morgana part of the gag was a recorded video that played in the crystal ball. When she would exclaim that the riders would not escape, she would look right at the riders adding to the effect.
Owl
An owl with a bad sense of humor stands at the entrance watching people waiting in line. As you wait he tells you a bit about the ride and then offers bad jokes to keep guests entertained.
Sparky
The name of the guy in the electric chair is Sparky. He has a full audio track featuring many different phrases, including "Hey baby, wanna sit on my lap?"
Gargoyle
One of the gargoyles at the end of the ride used to be a part of a Frightmares haunted house known as the Labyrinth.

I miss Dracula's conversation with the head in the crystal ball. And I used to know "Sparkey's" speech by heart.
Wow! I'm having major flashbacks! I LOVED this ride back in the day. We used to live in Logan, UT in the summers and made an annual outing to Lagoon. It's a joy to see these vintage rides again. I recall the glow in the dark tunnels rotated at one point - one one way and the other the opposite way so as to cause the riders to feel as though they were tipping over a bit. SO MUCH FUN! And you posted this on my birthday. I was born Oct. 6th, 1965. Thanks! Great job!

I remember growing up and I couldn’t wait until I was old enough to ride this ride, since I got tired of the terror ride. My daughter won’t go to Lagoon cause of the real scary things that happened there!

9th graders day at lagoon, I used this ride to make-out with my crush haha I don’t think I was the only one doing that, that day.

I wish you could all see a Bill Tracy dark ride close to when they were 1st created. Most of the “black boxes” with spooks that Tracy made have been replaced, destroyed by ignorant patron or repainted/ rethemed. You still get the crooked beam and the barrel room but you miss out on the waterfall, flying bat and ghost, lady getting sawed in half, guy flushed down toilet ect ect. They were something to see.
Probably one of the absolute closest is the Haunted House in Ocean City, Maryland.
I kinda remember a giant ape and a dragon inside Dracula's Castle, was there one there?
@@gspendlove When I first went on the ride back in 2006, the ape was a feature of the nearby Terror Ride. But I remember the sawing scene and waterfall.

Looks like the ride is still pretty much the same except they took the dragon out after the Headless Horsemen and replaced it with something else and also the guy that was hanging with the spikes rolling under him has been changed as well. Last time I was at Lagoon was in 2012. Glad it still looks pretty much the same. Terroride changed though since 2012, rooms have been changed and the vulture that was in the front is now moved off to the side near the ride op booth.
They also took out the goblins at the end and replaced it with a house. In 2017, Terror Ride had a complete renovation, which is why it looks so new.
@@mrknowhere6457 I saw a video of Terroride and saw the renovation. It looks nice. I guess it was time for a change because when I was there, the rooms were outdated.

Oh, man, another Memory Lane! I see they still use the same carriages, with the front lid that gets locked down during the ride.
In the 1980's after that first right turn out of the portrait hallway, you entered a room full of mirrors and a strobe light, so you saw dozens of images of your carriage, and the whole thing was momentarily disorienting in the blinking white light. A lot of the scenery is the same - I remember the skeleton blowing the mine shaft - but some is totally new to me. Were the rolling tunnels just not working or have they made them permanently motionless? And, ha ha, looks like they just gave up on the exit doors entirely. There used to be a set of doors at the end just like at the beginning, but it seemed one was always falling off hinges, or not closing again, or whatever.
They have changed this ride up quite a few times over the years. They changed both this ride and terror ride in 2007, and gave them both some new animatronics and effects. In 2010, they did the same thing, and added more, larger scale animatronics to both Dracula's Castle and Terror Ride. Most of the effects added in 2010 stopped working after a couple of years, and have since been replaced. In 2017, they completley re-did and re-furbished all of terror ride for its anniversary, and did some changes to Dracs that year to, so some of the effects in the ride right now are still relatively new.
When I worked this ride in '97 the tunnels were not turned on. I was told that it was they were deemed a liability.
i once made my friend go on this ride with me like 3 times because i thought the guy working there was cute and he helped me in and out of the cart every time we went on it😭i don’t even like haunted house rides, i had my eyes closed the whole way every time😂

how come the rolling tunnels or trummels WHATEVER THEY CALL EM don't turn anymore ? that is cool part of the ride!! Lgoon NEEDS TO GET THAT PART OF THE RIDE OPERATIONAL AGAIN them not spinning , takes away a big part of the coolness and spookiness of the ride!! just my opinion ! when i 1 rode this ride as a child , that was the best part of the ride WHAT A SHAME LAGOON WON'T TAKE THE TIME AND MONEY TO FIX THE BEST PART OF DRACULAS CASTLE!!!
Also if I remember the S curve room right before the skull rock water room was a room covered int Tinfoil with strobe lights. Like way back in the late '70's
One employee explained to me one time that they were making people motion sick. Kind of a stupid reason because many other rides there make people motion sick all the time and they’re still running. But whatever.
Just a little update from a recent rider, Frankenstein's pants have fallen down, exposing his metal hip, and the siren no longer works

Wish they would fix this ride.
Creepiest thing about this ride is how run down and neglected it is. They should either return it to it's original state or overhaul and start over with updated animatronics and effects.

That’s the 3rd haunted house the King Kong look alike has been in, the Haunted Shack, Terrorride and now Dracula’s Castle, along with a bunch of Frightmares scare zones and houses on the way there!
Its awesome how well kept that thing has been, especially since it still works today.
