I really would like to express some of the concerns in regards to diets and maybe ask for enlightenment in regards to the health.
I honestly appreciate all the information, all the knowledge that's being spread and shared throughout the TH-cam, books and various other platforms. Because of it, I know better what to eat, what to aim for, what to look out for and so on. For this reason, I believe that I'm slowly improving in my dieting habits. I'm more and more capable of eating the right things, eating less, get outside more and stay in the sun for a bit, move around more.
On the same note, I'm not capable to always "do the right thing". I know that junk food is not good for my health when I already have some issues in regards to it, but I have to admit that I still give into my temptations/cravings/desires that are stronger. I don't crave healthy foods. My primary desire is not the healthy stuff. My main focus/desire isn't eating just enough, in a calorie deficit for the most part- it's in the junk foods, sodas, sugary stuff. Why I'm a bit afraid about this? As much as I know about all of these things and as much I'm sometimes able to abstain from the unhealthy stuff, I still give into them. I wish I'd be able to resist all the temptations, quit them cold-turkey and turn a new page, so to speak, but that's not the case. Is it normal? Is it how humans work?
When I listen to other people, their concepts of "just decide, commit and do it" sounds alien to me. Even if I know something is better and I focus on doing it, I sometimes go against it. I know that I shouldn't drink sodas and drink water or tea instead? 2 days or 1 day out of the week I have intense cravings for sodas and I give into them (not always, but many times). I don't know if it's getting better or worse since I wasn't logging it and now I have no idea about the frequency of those cravings, I can only hope that they're reducing in numbers and intensity.
So, with having these concerns expressed, could anyone please enlighten on how to deal with this? Is it normal to not be able to self-control in these scenarios? Is it like a life-journey thing where you know better, but you mess up (some people more, some people less), but then you grow, adapt, slowly change until later on, for some people it even takes years to quit or change their ways of living? Not even change, but rather transform.
I wish I would be able to quit cold-turkey all the junk food and sodas right now, but it hasn't been the case. In these same conditions/circumstances, I believe I wouldn't be able to abstain from them on my own. It's like a part of me that I'm trying to transform.

You should check out the channel Flavcity with Bobby Parish. He has a lot of videos so you'll really need to search for what interests you. He has helped me so much because he talks a lot about nutrient dense foods. He goes into the stores and discusses the products. His info is practical. He really gets your mindset to change into thinking more about what you put into your body. It's not easy though. Sugary foods are easy. I know. I've given up colas completely. I still get cravings for other sweets. I don't deny myself any at all, I just wait and eat a treat that is special or homemade once in a while. I don't see it as a reward though. I just say if I'm going to eat sugar, I'll wait and eat something that is special. Something I wouldn't even normally get very often. Once you get away from processed sugar it does get easier, though I feel it will always be something I have to guard myself against. Make sure you have good choices available to eat.

Sugar is simply hard to quit but with self-control we can eliminate it or at least reduce the intake. I made diet changes more than a year ago because I wanted to improve my health. I have an autoimmune condition and eating junk food was not a good idea. It took me some effort but honestly, in my case it wasn't difficult. Probably because I was having several new symptoms at once and I needed to take action immediately. I gave up regular dairy and only consume it if it's from grass fed cows but still with moderation. Same for red meat. No more white sugar. If I want to add some sweet to a tea, I use a bit of raw organic honey or a tiny amount of a paste made with figs or dates. By now, I rarely use any sweet when drinking teas or lemonade. I exchanged white flour with oat or almond flour when I want to make a pancake. There are so many alternatives to swap unhealthy ingredients for ones with more nutritional values. I like to use low carb foods as well since these too are also addictive. To make the transition easier, you can start by eating or drinking junk foods a bit less on each meal. For instance, do not finish your drink and same with junk foods. Some side effects if we can call this way when I made this changes drastically were headaches, irritability and itching inside my ears. Good luck and hope you can make the changes you want.

I think you need to be patient with yourself.. I remember when I use to crave ice cream… the more I would denied myself the easier it would get… now years later. You couldn’t pay me to eat sugary ice cream… those desires go away….

If I want a candy bar i include it in my carbs. I try to buy candy like Hershey chocolate bar that has butter fat with sugar. The fat from the candy bar helps without raising your blood sugar. My mom ate ice cream everyday and lived to be in her eighties but she ate a lot of vegetables and beans for protein. We hardly ever ate meat so beans was our protein. We did have eggs for breakfast. We never ate cold cereal but did eat oatmeal. Parents are overloading their kids with these sugar cereals full of carbs. There are healthy homemade pancakes you can cook and put in freezer. 100 percent pure maple syrup is better than the syrups you buy for pancakes. I put honey on mine locally grown. If you eat pretty healthy I don't think a scoop of ice cream or a candy bar will hurt you. Just don't come home and eat a bag of cookies and a gallon of ice cream. I stay away from chips and make a lot of my own desserts with fruits. When they talk about sugar is when you consume large amounts. The worst thing is soft drinks which is why I believe so many young people are getting diabetes and women getting osteoporosis. Sodas are the worse for your bones.
