  • In this video, we demonstrate the importance of sweeping the opponent from the correct side. You can observe your opponent's posture to determine which side you should sweep.

Hi Sensei Machida! Beautiful video! One questione about the outside sweep: the outside sweep (when the opponent has his feet on fhe same line) must hit the opponent's ankle on the side or behind?
    Thanks Sensei!!!

It’s very good question! It depends My suggestion is when your opponent bounces sweep on the side and when your opponent is more grounded pull his foot from behind.

@@MachidaAcademy Hi Sensei Machida!!! To strike behind the opponent's ankle, does the sweeping leg make the same basic movement? and does the support leg rotate/pivot, right???
Thanks for the answer Sensei Machida, I love ashi barai!!!

Yes, it basically the same movement, however when you go to behind the ankle you should rotate your front foot .

@@MachidaAcademy Really helpful Sensei!!! One last technical detail: with this technique (behind the ankle) do you recommend exchanging the position of the shoulders or remaining in the same Kamae for the entire execution of the technique as for example in mae geri? In any case Sensei, I thank you for taking the time to answer me, I thank you for your help (ashi barai is a technique that I love very much for the concept of "Kyo" that is at its basis), and I am honored to have spoken with you!
      Thanks so much!!!
