Rare 1979 archival footage of Joe Strummer of The Clash on King's Road, London. They were going to play on the roof of Beaufort Market that day but the cops chased them away.
I was there also, in the graveyard when it all kicked off, it was the first time i had seen a rover 3500 police car, and then it got bricked and turned over i was 14 at the time the clash were ment to play on the roof of the car park across from the beaufort market at the start of the film it shows Fabien Kwest of Raped @ 25 seconds, they were also going to play
The identikit cliched Daily Mail “punks” were out in force all looking the same, not realising they were the antithesis of what the had been about - it was two years dead when this was filmed.
I was there, at the market and then when the SPG attacked at the graveyard, I remember the penned in group at Sloane Square breaking through the police lines and running round the back of John Barnes...those were the days!

I was an American student doing a study abroad program in Bromley at the time. I moved to a squat in London after school.
I was there too. The only reason it all kicked off was the cops manhandling people. Great times!.
