    They've played ONE game using some new tactics and these two are saying we should just give up and go back to what we've been doing the previous 6 years? Firstly, a lot of our players are going to be borderline too old for the next world cup, secondly we're already seeing teams like England adopting our old game plan, third WHY would we not want our team to expand their skillsets in the areas that we were previously lacking??? ONE game guys and we WON that game against the number 2 team, I think ya'll are tripping.

    Guys guys guys.. all this means is that the Boks will have the OPTION of an attacking game.
    WC 2027 is in Australia - it's dry, it's running rugby, it's end to end.
    World Rugby is trying to negate scrum-dominated games..
    Please give Rassie and co a chance.
    Also, we tried playing tight rugby against Ireland - and lost against them for 6 years.
    So.. even if we had to put Faf on rollerskates and Pieter Steph in a tutu, it bloody worked!

      Don't agree, Boks need to develope this part of their game, when we don't get go forward and teams front up physically like England did in the Semi then we need to be able to switch things up and be confident they can play this way.

    • @elialvah
      @elialvah 29 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Adapting to what? The external factors that necessitate adaptation have to be existential, they can’t be imagined. Adaptation happens in response to external pressure. It can’t be preemptive. We can’t guess what we’re adapting to. We can’t even assume the very need to adapt. Adaptation has to be known and necessitated.
      For example the rest of the world doesn’t want to do 6-2 bench splits. They do it because they have to adapt to us. We are the external pressure that necessitates their adaptation. And because we are successful in what we do, they are forced to adapt to that which is most natural to us which gives us the advantage.
      We have to stick with success until success becomes failure or conditions (laws) are changed so much that it’s impossible to still achieve success. But the failure or negative impact of changed conditions has to materialize on the field. We can’t predetermine it, not least because the predetermination itself is blind.
      We’re obliged to try for a third successive World Cup employing the method that hasn’t yet been beaten. Let it be beaten. Then let it be beaten again for certainty. And then we will we need to adapt and we will know where and what we need to adapt to.

    It's always concerning when you see unexpected change... But so long as the core components and foundation of the team remain, think we are in safe hands.
    We have a changing of the guard expected to happen over the next two years for key positions, so with new players coming in things have to change.
    All our new upcoming flyhalfs are more dynamic. We need to lock in new depth at 15, Le Roux will not last for ever.
    Think this style really surprised Ireland, and that might be a big part of this. In the last WC Rassie had 4:4, 5:3, 6:2 and a 7:1 split to confuse oppositions. With some new playing styles they will increase the confusion.
    Rassie has two years to try new things. Keep what works, and then prepare solely for the WC.

    Reading through the comments here I get the feeling that these two have missed the mark. In simplicity, you cannot undo our inherent strengths, we'll always be able to run over you. We have other elements of the game that will always available to be implemented where necessary. However, playing a whole new style against the number two team in the world and still never losing control of the outcome speaks volumes for the measure of progress this reflects. When we can add a new dimension to our game, the opposition will never know who they're on the field against till we open up.
    I would say rightly so, the global contemporaries of Rassie and co are very concerned as to what the future of Springbok rugby bodes for the rest of the world. Yes they're making rule changes because of us, and so we are pre-imminently moulding our game to mitigate those changes and remain the dominant force the rugby world hates to love. I gotta give to Rassie and crew, outstanding work!

What they're doing is evolving their game, and adding another layer to our game. SA will still apply the 'Slow poison' through our pack and line out and use the extra layer to finish. Having the ability to play a more expansive game will also keep the opposition guessing what we'll bring to the game. Give them time, I'm sure the bokke will develop a game model which makes the most of our big pack and excellent set pieces and rucking and mauling, but also maximizes the skillset we have to unlock our back line.

      @@timbaker4253 well yes but you don't have to be offloading everytime you take contact and the flyhalf doesn't have to be flat every play. Loftus to Kings Park = 622km*
    scrum going backwards at 8m/5secs (96m/ min and 5.7km/h)

    They are not reinventing the game we play. They are adding more weapons to the attack. We obviously went full balls with phase play in this game but I think we will get to a point where we will be able to play different game plans vs different teams or different conditions and can even shift between styles in game too. But to get there, we need to get comfortable playing with more dynamism on attack.
    Once we get to the point where we can play various styles, it would be a nightmare for opposition coaches to try analyse and prep.
    This is what made that NZ team from 2011-2015 so good. They were able to attack out wide and decimate teams but could also play tight and direct to win games too.

    • @notenoughstones3873
      @notenoughstones3873 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Also we created a lot of opportunities and line breaks with our new attack but weren’t clinical enough to finish and that just takes more time to get right. Once it does click, along with our strong pack, set piece and defence, we will be very hard to beat

    @MoonHoax-md6mp หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    The Boks are much more dangerous when attacking. Changing rugby rules and possible limits to substitutes will necessitate a more open attacking game. Rassie understands these dynamics.
    The Boks defensive counter attacking game of the past is very dangerous resulting in 1 point victories, a relative low 60% win rate and many penalties against the Boks not to mention "ugly rugby."
    Rassie understands the new focus and rules necessitating a faster more open game. What is required is some personnel changes in the Bok Squad to compliment their new attacking style. Evan Roos at 8, Kwagga on the bench, Grant Williams starting with Faf or Morne on the bench, Fassi and Quin Horn eventually to replace Willie, with Jasper Wiese and Elrigh Louw coming on board.
    FMZ must also start or replace Pollard earlier in the Durban match. Handre Pollard is not what he used to be even when playing for Leinster Tigers this past season.
    The Boks looked much more in charge of the game on Saturday by adopting a more open game against Ireland than in the RWC and other "recent games" against Ireland where the Boks tried to dominate with the forwards only.
    The penalty count was refreshingly not negative against the Boks for the precise reason that they played a more open game. There is no reason why the Boks can't play a more expansive game for the reasons mentioned whilst still dominating in the forward exchanges. We have tons of backs with pace to spare and young mobile backrow players such as, Kolisi, Jasper Wiese, PSDT, Kwagga, Evan Roos, Elrigh Louw, JC Pretorius, Ben Jason Dixon, Ruan Venter, Milo Gumede etc.....
    I fully support the Boks new expansive game.

    Keo I’ve been following you since your Business Day days. In all these years I have never agreed more with you than this analysis. Do we want to imitate the ABs? No. We love our own style and in DDA and JK we have players that 45:25 suits our style perfectly. They have developed into formidable players. Why would we discard this advantage? Question is: are we losing our focus and clarity of what brought us success? I don’t think so. I believe Rassie is trying to increase the number of arrows the Boks have - but that ‘running rugby’ will remain one of the lesser used weapons. We might play less risky this coming Saturday.

    I quite like the expansive game, but they should only use that game plan when appropriate. I think for the Durban test they should go back to the old school tactics. If the boks over time can fine tune their expansive game the other teams are going to be in a world of trouble trying to prepare for what the boks might being in any given game.

    Ireland were hanging on for much of the game, but scramble defence kept them in the game, ultimately the TMO prevented any momentum for Ireland, an even split in the 50/50 calls and Doris's try correctly awarded would have changed the dynamic of the game. Its a real killer to have decisions continually go against you.

    I agree with the views on this program but the only thing I would say is that what works in the World Cup doesn’t give you consistent wins between a World Cup, i.e. you need structures and coaching to consistently beat teams which has to include a better attack than the Boks have traditionally had. The Boks style works perfectly in a high-pressure World Cup game
    Easier is trying to take us to the next level where we can win the in between games too.
