This was amazing to watch! Thank you for sharing and such kind words! Great to be your first opponent of the weekend and hope we can play again sometime, but with you running Guard of course.
Hey, I'm the Tyranid player from Nottingham. Just wanted to say thanks for being quite kind about my command abilities in the video and including pictures of my army. It was fun playing against you (I enjoy a bloodbath)even if half our conversation was you apologising to me . Lessons were learned, I think that was my 21st game of 40k
Mordian Glory, this was a great video; these tournament reports are some of, if not the best kind. Really incredible you put up such a good fight with what you had, and if that isn't a testament to your prowess and skill, what could be? Looks like our trust in you for guidance is well placed! Learned a lot. Thank you!
Mordian no wonder I couldn't find you 😅 I kept looking for your guard army in the listing over the weekend. Played Tau twice as well they were everywhere! I finished 280/381 which I was absolutely buzzing with for my 8th Cadian list. Stick to the Guard son 😉
I'm fairly new to your Channel and this genuinely put a smile on my face and has to be one of the best reviews of a tournament I have ever watched. Please keep it up and let the memes flow
I absolutely love this style of Tau army, I started 40k (and Tau) in 3rd edition, and always though of them as a modern army, with stealth and crisis suits as special ops, but still mostly a troop and tank army. (I had a long break and came back in 9th to armies that were almost entirely giant suits) I love that this shows a viable troop army
about the ghostkeel: you can upgrade him to have free interseption in 12 inch, the fun stuff here - it mesuares from the unit not the bearer, so, your auspex is now a bit longer about the commi: you can make basicly anything u want (exept the psyker) - i can recommen resonator warheads (upgrade on the missle pod - assault 3 7 - 3 2, if any hit is scored, halve the movment, advance and charges of non-vehicle or monster) or DW-02 burst cannon (assault 8 6 -2 1, works same as Nimbodial 1st)
Hey Mordian, you should try incorporating the ultimate tau sleeper unit into your army: tactical drone squads! It's something that is deceptively powerful that I don't see played AT ALL. Each 10pt gun drone brings 4 str5 24" shots that can have a 3+BS(markerlight+drone controller) fly 10", deepstrike(so you can hide them in reserve and drop them in where you need them and have a spare markerlight), and can come in 12 unit squads. That's 48(!) shots for 120pts! That's 2.5pts per shot, which as far as I can tell is the cheapest per shot ratio IN THE WHOLE OF 40k!(and they're S5!) They have respectable T4 and 4+save have a low leadership of 6, but make great trading squads that can vaporize screens and can string out to move block entire armies. The drone controllers can be tricky to set up in the command phase(though this is mitigated by your list being Tau sept giving it 9" range and containing 5 sources for it: pathfinders, ghostkeel, 3x stealth suits) Your opponent either ignores them and gets punished by ~150 S5 shots a turn from 3 units of drones, or wastes firepower taking them out while your hammerheads, stealth suits, and riptide shoots them off the table with impunity. Even a minimum 4 gun drone squad can put out almost as much firepower as an entire strike team of fire warriors but for half the cost! ...also the models are easy to paint en masse and CHEAP!
Been looking forward to this one all week, glad you put up a good fight out there! In terms of video feedback, maybe just a little less of the jumpcut meme edits but you had some good ones in there. I feel like less is more sometimes. Anyways, always a joy to hear of your dastardly adventures out in the tournament scene!
...unlike their big brother, Ghostkeel. I put a "spine" on his forehead so he looks like a distraction carnifex... which is his purpose when I take him in my list.
@@lazerhosen I mean, they do that well. You spend not a whole lot of points, and you drop them mid-field. You then screen out any forward deploys of your enemy while also giving them something to focus all of their effort on/speedbump them for a turn. Yeah, your Stealths die, but they more often than not win you the game.
This is pretty fun to watch, mostly because I built a list very similar for AoO, 2 weeks ago. 2 Riptides, Longstrike + Hammerhead, 4 Broadsides, Shadowsun, Shas'o R'alai, Rest of the points Stealth and Kroot.
A word on the 18" shooting exclusion on the gjostkeet - it doesn't work well to keep you completely out of firing range (as you've pointed out with its short weapon ranges on 4/5 options) but it does allow you to choose which units can shoot at you - you can often eliminate half or more of your opponent's shooting against it while engaging full on. My best example is using mirrors to shift a fusionkeel to the enemy back like to eliminate artillery or some such, after the enemy had committed much of its force forward, unable to maintain momentum while countering the ghostkeel.
With Pathfinders - there is a neat trick: add Pulse Accellerator drone to them. And they get AP -1 on their carabines. Also - don't forget: Rail Rifles :)
Those stealth suits are very efficient, I'm not certain why people think otherwise. For 75 points, the cost of a typical crisis suit, you get 3 burst cannons on 6 wounds, at a -1 to hit and that extra armor in cover. There are, to my knowledge, three minor issues vs. a crisis suit: I can't take a free support system on all models; I can't use the commander-crisis-specific buffs, and crisis have +2" move. I take a unit of 6 with marker drones. I use maneuvers on my Coldstar to pop in and give the stealth suits reroll 1s. Coordinated fire in a pinch if I really need the AP. Absolutely devastating turn one, or turn 3+ with kauyon
I know you're an Imperial Guard man, but as a T'au fan, I loved this episode. Outside of losing a bet, I would love to see you play T'au lists more often.
I've always liked your infantry style of army and loved seeing you apply that to the Tau. The riptide's value in the current meta comes from its jump shoot jump ability. In the tau mirror matches being able to jump back behind terrain to avoid damage is really big if the majority of your big hitters can also do the same thing. With your army you were having to expose the hammerheads to shoot meaning the riptide's hiding mechanic was not as powerful because the enemy always had targets. I think everyone agrees with your conclusion about the ghostkeel. To think for the points you could have had an extra Hammerhead. It's rules just don't work well with it's weapon ranges however giving it long range guns would just make it obnoxious. You had no deepstrike elements in the list. Do you think that something you'd add going forward. If the enemy keeps its heavy hitters back it may be hard for the hammerheads to get line of sight to them. Deepstrike always helps against hiding units particularly fragile ones sitting on objectives. I also like pathfinders. However I think they work best in a lost such as yours that has a lot of infantry. Without the increased screens and general infantry yours has there is little other target for the enemy's light infantry firepower from turn 2 onwards and that is when the pathfinders fragility really shows. What did you think of the devilfish ? Did it help a strike team get aerospace ? Would you keep it in the list ? Ater all you could just get 95 points of more troops or 4 more stealth suits.
I honestly think you should try this again. With the changes to flyers and no armor of contempt, you could massively boost the power level of this list with some small tweeks. For example: if you trade out the Ghostkeel for another commander for more dakka(which you can now add to any patrol), the close combat commander for a counter charge threat, switching the ionhead for another hammerhead or broadsides, trading a strike team for breacher team in your devilfish, some firewarriors of the devilfish for full squads of stealth suits, a kroot squad for 3 minimum kroothound squads, try the special weapons on the pathfinders(9 ion shots / 3 mini rail guns), or maybe trying out some crisis suits as a drop squad with the reroll strat(since now reserves are free) or as essentially another artillery piece with plasma/missiles. You could make a top table list without being a slave to the meta and keeping the guard playstyle. Your experience with guard gives you a certain tactical insight advantage and makes for interesting games that aren't just the same old same old you see from most tau youtubers. It would be interesting to see your perspective trying out different opinions while breaking the meta with your own playstyle.
You inspired me to experiment with a Stealth Suit list for an upcoming tournament. (I have sooo many of them (people keep buying them for me as gifts), never used them LOL)
If you have to use a Ghostkeel, Give it Full Fusion. 3x S9, 24" Fusion Shots backed up by 2x S8, 18" Fusion is going to be a lot more likely to have an effect than the Rake IMO.
I personally don't like pathfinders on principle. I've never been a fan of markerlights, admittedly I've been involved with tau, fighting or using them, since like 6th Ed and back when markerlights could make units just disappear by virtue of the sheer amount of buffs/debuffs depending on perspective. Tau have a lot of mobility and options outside of battlesuits. Sad to see the ionhead being so bad but guess they gotta sell the railgun somehow. I've always stood by stuff like rail broadsides, even back when the missiles were miles better. Breachers and the 'fish of fury' tactic is something I'd love to try out personally.
I was thinking that he thought the railheads were bad, wait till you go against guard with double vanquishers that have more guns and potentially hit aven harder with buffs
They come a bit cheaper in an overall worse package point per point compared to russes, with the Benefit of having fly. They aré a bit More powerfull since they flat out deal 3MW instead of D3. I belive they aré actually wel balanced, with russes being winners due to their durability
So, I've been collecting/playing Tau for more than 20 years, and I actually have enough Fire Warriors to do that massed infantry Tau list. On paper, it actually looks rather burly. My plan is to run 60 Pulse Rifle Fire Warriors, 30 Pulse Carbine Fire Warriors, 60 Breachers in Devilfish, and 30 Pathfinders. I'll try it out in 10th Ed and let you know how it goes.
I have a friend who started with Tau, specifically got in to Tau right before the 9th Edition Codex dropped. For a while he didn't really get why I'd walk away from most of our matches at least a little upset, even when I won. Then he decided to get in to Admech. He put together his Admech list, did a lot of research, put together a decent 1K list. It was missing Ironstriders and only had one Sicarian unit, but he had a Dunecrawler and plenty of Skitari. He was very confident with his chances... and I stomped him. He was down to two models at the end of the 3rd turn, I had only lost two squads of Kasrkin, 7 or 8 Guardmens, and a few wounds off a single Leman Russ. In that moment he really understood how exactly powerful the Tau are. I won't lie, it felt good to beat him so undeniably, even if the extreme thrashing did make me feel a little sorry for him. He never gloated in his victories, so I minimized the visible satisfaction I felt. Since then he is all in on Admech and has a few victories under his belt. Even though Tau are so much easier he enjoys the Admech so much more.
This is more about timing though...has he started a few month earlier it would gabe been an uphill-battle. The T'au Codex now has a winrate about 50% which is pretty balanced.
So many changes to balance the tau since the codex came out. Broadsides lost core, crisis suits up in points significantly, broadsides, commanders and ethereal's up in points. Nerf to indirect fire and mont'ka and recently the flyer change (no bombing runs till turn 3 is huge for the sunshark). Should be a much more interesting game with the Tau now.

It does 3 mortal wounds in addition to the normal damage, mortal wounds spill over they are not limited to 1 model so you can kill multiple models in a unit. Also you get exploding 6s to hit with kauyon in the later turns. This means that if you get a 6 to hit with the main gun it becomes 2 hits, therefor you can kill multiple models with 1 shot :)
Hi, that video is rly nice! i am now your fanboy! :) but i can't rebuild your army list... this weakend one of my best friend is coming to me and a want to suprice him whit this list. Can i have your list? or see it online? bg mark
How many models did you kill per 1 shot of the rail rifle you keep saying they wipe out units. If you were doing 12 damage too units and not too just 1 model that would be cheating and you would just crunch through armies as you keep tabling armies on turn 3 that's not easy

How many models did you kill per 1 shot of the rail rifle you keep saying they wipe out units. If you were doing 12 damage too units and not too just 1 model that would be cheating and you would just crunch through armies as you keep tabling armies on turn 3 that's not easy
It does 3 mortal wounds in addition to the normal damage, mortal wounds spill over they are not limited to 1 model so you can kill multiple models in a unit. Also you get exploding 6s to hit with kauyon in the later turns. This means that if you get a 6 to hit with the main gun it becomes 2 hits, therefor you can kill multiple models with 1 shot :)
lore accurate gue'vesa?
The next joke list needs to be made an army list made by chat gpt
It would be incredibly hypocritical of me to criticize you, since I own a Tau codex and want to build a mechanized Tau list.
Why did you say you won 5/0 and suggest 100% win rate but yet you lose most of your games.
I actually went 3-2 personnally so I won most of my games :)
Half nudity in the first 3 seconds? O my...
Tau? I just vomited!
You're dead to me tau player XD
This had too many cut-aways for my taste. Too distracting for little gain. I could not get through the video.

Tau. SO "fun" t play against.
I flat out refuse to play against this broken shit.
Bro I agree, T'au are my least favourite faction! Hence why my community trolled me and made take Tau to an event xD
