Not really. Some people eventually grow up to aim for different kind of lives. What people believed in 10 years back changes. So u respect the other person and it is still friendly (like u don't mind ur friend drinking and going home often, u don't interfere in their lives, ur friend can travel without u) bt in relationship it gets different.
Expectations are huge in relationships unlike friendships and thus friendships are never heavy. Takes emotional maturity to get back to normal friends but I have seen people do that.
You can definitely stay friends after breakup, maybe the romantic feelings faded off, or they’re in two different places in life like wanting children or marriage. But if you are friends prior to having a romantic relationship you can stay that way even after.
