At no detriment to the film as a whole, my favorite thing in it is the dance number “the Shipoopi”…it may have been the 11 o’ clock number in the Broadway show- a rouser meant to signal immanent plot tie-ups-but in the film it’s a choreographed, lightning- paced wonder.
I’m an American who was working and living in London for a year in the mid eighties. This movie was, of course, nothing like my state-side life, but I never felt more homesick than the time it was shown on television.
Harold Hill mentions to Mrs O'Reilly that O'Clark(Clark was a trumpet teacher world known) and O'Mendez recommend the trumpet. Rafael Mendez was the greatest trumpet player worldwide. Rafael started playing trumpet at five years old in his father's band. They lived in Mexico and that was their source of income. Pancho Villa kidnapped the family because he wanted entertainment and when he released them, Rafael stayed with Pancho for a year. Robert said that his favorite role that never made it to Broadway was Pancho Villa. Robert always did research for his roles. I wonder if he ever made that connection.
Oh ya got trouble! Right here on TH-cam! With the kids watchin' videos after school! I said ya got trouble! Too many kids watchin' videos! They need homework after school!
Only thing that isn’t great is the creepiness of Harold Hill in the original film. Guy literally stalks the teacher to her home. Gives off rapey vibes for sure. Otherwise all the musical stuff is so good.
This movie should have been a cautionary tale and they missed the entire point because in the 1960s they had to have a happy ending... There's no "happy ending" with trump.

Great review of my favorite movie musical!
Thanks, I would always welcome it that you share it if you like it. It's really hard to get exposure :)
Astute observations!

This was JUST was I was looking for. Hard to find analysis on the music man
Thank you so very much, Sergeant Panther!
This is such a well edited and well written review how does this only have 655 views?!?
Fine content sir!
Thank you very much I had a lot of fun making it. :)
Best musical ever, and it's not close.
I like that you made the connection with Main Street USA at Disneyland.

Our children’s children gonna have trouble.
Paul Ford was hilarious in this and in The Russians Are Coming he was great in these roles.
Sinatra wanted to star in the movie but Jack Warner was smart he went with Robert Preston
Actually Warner had to use Preston because otherwise Wilson would give him the rights to do the movie

I wish I could think about music man without music man from fnaf comming to mind
