Hi, everyone. A point of clarification, since there is some discussion about this issue. I am not a jazz drummer. I cut my teeth on rock and personally lean towards progressive rock (think The Aristocrats, Dream Theater, Animals As Leaders, etc.). I do, however, love to explore other genres and tribute them in my covers. I am not a purist when it comes to identifying yourself with a particular genre. Every genre has something valuable to offer to a drummer who is open to all genres. Hope this helps in any future discussions of whether I am an X drummer or Y drummer or Z drummer. Thanks. ^_^
Hey Devikah, awesome job on the cover! Do you play in a band? Because I'd like to hear more of your drumming. BTW Astonishing (^^) taste in music, keep on rocking!
I've been playing for about 17 years and this makes me want to quit lol Amazing, playing, you're a virtuoso! I also enjoy playing with different song writers and genres as well. You should check out the band Ebu Gogo, very cool prog/punk/funky stuff. The drummer Brendan Bell kills it. They were just a side project but made 2 insanely good albums. KEEP MELTING FACES!!!! \m/
Okay, I'm 55, and I've been a professional musician since I was 15. (Well, not really a musician, a bass player, but still.) Whiplash is one of my favorite films, and I've heard literally dozens of versions of Caravan over the years, but this one is my favorite. You play with such ease and finesse. Although I know you're working your ass off, you just make it look natural ans simple. Great dynamics as well. In addition, the frame rate this is filmed at leaves those amazing stick trails that make this a blast to watch. Truly impressive.
people in this comment section are kinda weird but nontheless this was a great video. one of the cleanest covers ive heard of whiplash and caravan no less. This is my tempo and yes you got the part.
I feel I need to say this. Your video helped me understand how ridiculously technical drum and jazz drumming is. Makes me appreciate this movie even more now. Seriously. Thank you. Consider me a fan.
From one drummer to another outstanding (as my late father would say) Who got me into Jazz & took me to my first Buddy Rich concert in 1978-79. You were spot on Keep up the good work...
Yeah the song really isn't ungodly hard before the solo. If you notice in the movie his hands only bleed while he's doing soloistic stuff or practicing too hard, which even as it is is unlikely. Possible but really unlikely

@@ianhutchinson9318 I can play caravan and whiplash but what I was talking about is that she held her sticks both straight, which is called matched. @@fresamouse She transcribed the rhythm of Whiplash' version of Caravan by ear; no sheet music.
