Enjoyed this video a lot. I am not at that stage for my RV-8 build, but it is giving me great ideas. Your videos cover aspects of building a RV not often covered by other builders (ex: cowling fitting, composite parts, interior ect.). This is helping me out greatly !

Still 3-4 months away from getting started on my Sonex (gotta finish up the honey-do list before I start the next crazy idea) but the interior and panel are the things I look forward to the most... in a couple years. Really enjoying the channel!

Stu, absolutely great videos. I think I’ve watched all of them. Question: the trim piece on the front of the glare shield painted blue, did you manufacture that? If not where did you get it? I would love to put something like it on my 8.
Very nice video! I watch almost all of your videos now and it really gives me convinced the upcoming build. One question, did you paint the interior after or during the assembling of the fuselage? I wonder how I can do that accurately with all those angles and tight spaces. I mean, how did you get the paint gun in there? Thank you so much for your videos!!!
Yeah it’s tricky. I powder coated a lot of stuff during the assembly. Specifically parts that see lots of wear. Then paint remainder as best you can. It’s not too bad getting paint gun or rattle cans in there :)
@@stusaircraftfactory6592 Stu, thank you very much for your response. So I guess all those RV8’s that are usually light gray inside are all painted? I wasn’t sure if that is paint or just primer. There is not much information out there about painting the interior.
@@flyingchris81 yeah typically primed and painted. I find rattle can paint is sufficient since it will get chipped and scratched no matter what paint it is. Then it’s easy to touch up. High wear parts I prefer powder coat and upholstery
Very beautiful but how much is it going to weigh when it's all done? Seems like I have mine on a diet trying to keep it light. I guess if it's going to be a show plane and doesn't need a lot of fuel it'll be alright.
Light is best that’s for sure but there’s a compromise. I like the comfortable feeling passengers get in a finished interior. I have flown heavy RVs and it makes a big difference
I am curious what your RV-8 weights BEFORE paint and after Paint.... If you could give us that data point that would be appreciated. Thanks PS you said you chromed aluminum?
@@stusaircraftfactory6592 Yep awesome looking. Besides, you look skinny, saving on AC gross Wt. Ha ha. I just like good weight for paint in my inquiring engineer mind. Your bird would be a good data point, as your paint will no doubt be top notch... Your paint video to come can add that weight nugget may be. Cheers.
Not sure exactly what you mean. Are you talking about moving the main controls to side like a Cirrus aircraft? I haven't done any mods to mine. The main control stick needs to be a bit shorter than some people prefer. If you leave it too long it will hit the bulkhead behind the instrument panel (and the panel itself). Some people install bent sticks to change the angle a bit.

would you think about putting some foam insulation behind the leather pockets?
Good idea for sound deadening. I would suggest a thinner stick on material like they use on automotive floors. The RV8 is not quiet.

So what is classic aero designs using for the side panels? What is the leather covering to give it rigidity?
They’re aluminum panels. I made some of them myself and then sent aluminum to them. They made the ones with pockets

No - Flightline Interiors did the carpet since they have a kit. It’s really nice

Yeah I like the side stick. I'm not aware of any modified RV8s with this. It would be a big job.

Absolutely. I’d like to build a S21 some day. I’d consider anything really
