I worked for Don Williams for 10 years from 1976 to 1986 I know for sure who sang high harmony on Amanda. Garth Fundis on both Don and Waylon.

I always prefer to listen to the music from the heart and soul it came from. Closer to the experience that formed it's creation. Great stuff

He wrote 31#1 songs & a million other chart songs. He made a lot of people rich just by singing his songs. He made out OK himself! He's a songwriter's songwriter, He did what Good ole' boy's like him do!

McDill looks like a college professor, instead of one of the great songwriters of country music. Lol

From Perry Como's "Happy Man" and Sam the Sham and Pharaohs "Black Sheep" til his 2000 retirement. One of, if not, the greatest songwriter. Practically made Don Williams (just saying).

The royalties off his song "Amanda' likely made him financially independent.

Love Don Williams but Bob should've got more recognition. Right?

I'm really glad Bob wrote this song and lots of other great ones, but I'm really glad Waylon Jennings sang it too! Best ever. Nobody can bet Waylon's singing. Not even don Williams, who also sang it great.

Nicolette Larson also covered this song.

Allen Reynolds harmony-Allen also sang high tenor on "Amanda", by Don Williams, that he co-wrote w/Bob McDill!

The high tenor on "Amanda" was actually Garth Fundis, who worked under Allen Reynolds at the time, before he had a successful production career of his own.

I'd a bet it was Allen, I stand corrected. @@Odawg292002

Yeah. Can tell a difference there.

I can tell you that with 100% certainty, I'm lucky enough to have a friend who is a songwriter named Jim Casey, who co-wrote a song with McDill called "Lend a hand", was in a band called "The Smoke Ring" with Garth Fundis, that was produced by Allen Reynolds and Dickey Lee. One day I went to lunch with Jim and Matt Casey, Bob McDill, Dickey Lee and Allen Reynolds in Brentwood. We talked about Garth doing the harmony on both versions of "Amanda", Don and Waylon.

I was with Cowboy Jack Clement from '79 to his retirement, I knew those guys, except for the Casey's-our paths might've crossed during those yrs. @@Odawg292002
