They've come a long way to get to this point. I love their relationship especially when they work together. You can tell the difference in how Lingyi interacts with his mother now versus how he did with his late wife. He voices his opinion more with Shiyi/he fights for her rather than giving in to please his mother. He never stood up for his late wife/he never went against his mother which is why his wife went to such extremes to neutralize Lianfang so she didn't become the legal wife. Loving Shiyi really changed him. It made him a better man/father.
It's all thanks to Shiyi for ignoring the family rules and allowing them to have a relationship. The whole separating children by status is the fastest way to create animosity/hatred between siblings. I'm just glad Shiyi stepped in with the support of her husband because these brothers are so adorable. Big brother had his back.. lol

The rules governing the Xu house were used to separate legitimate and illegitimate children. If it wasn't for Shiyi's intervention the brothers wouldn't have a relationship now. She was the one who encouraged them to play together even after Nanny Tao told her about the rules. She chose to ignore their rules so that the brothers could bond and it paid off. Concubine Wen is an opportunist. She thinks the reason Lingyi is paying attention to her son is because he's smart. She doesn't realize that Shiyi is the reason he has a relationship with both of his sons. She's teaching him how to become an engaged father. If it wasn't for her influence neither of his sons would have a relationship with him. I really love how united Lingyi/Shiyi are especially when it comes to his mother. I'm glad that Shiyi feels comfortable enough to speak her mind to the GM and her archaic beliefs. The old lady always has an opinion about something...lol We all know that her judgment (Lianfang) can't be trusted.

Shiyiang used logical examples to prove her point which didn't sit well with her mother-in-law. Biased, antiquated ideas on display, what her being an illegitimate daughter has to do with anything? If she thought she could embarrass Shiyi by that, she had a lot to learn.

I'm glad that they used real child's voice. The use of baby voice by female is really grating on my nerves LOL
