I only liked a couple of songs on MF The Elder at first. A few years later I got into it. And played it for someone that was not a fan at all.He was pleasantly surprised.A new fan was born.
This is so awesome to see KISS these days(2014-15) do this old song off the "The Elder" album..I think a lot of us KISS fans who were kids back when that album came out- 1981 (I was only 10 when I got "The Elder" for my birthday-I had been a fan since I was eight and already had three or four older albums), liked that very strange KISS record, though it was a radical change at the time. If you actually listen to the album, it has a couple really killer heavy songs, though they were in between the mellower highly orchestrated material. Older fans at the time were already disillusioned by then after the long period in which KISS did their disco rock era, though they had some great material during that era too. I think it is very cool that KISS honor their fans wishes and play these rare tracks from time to time..,The masses usually want to hear the main well known songs, but the die hard KISS fans like to hear the rarities..I have to say my favorite rarities are when they bring back songs from the studio side of KISS ALIVE 2 as well..But I love hearing "The Oath'. It was definitely the best song on "The Elder"..Hell, I loved "I" , "Escape From The Island", and "Mr.Blackwell" a lot too!! By the time KISS got to "Creatures Of The Night" in their history(1982) after the long experimental era, they were definitely back on track though with the best heavy metal album ever..
Eric Singer plays it well..puts the 16ths on the kicks were they should be like Eric Carr did on the album but when you hear it played by the Fox Eric Carr..there's something special about the sound and feel he had.

I have always loved this song and never heard it live in this fidelity......definitely an untold gem. The entire album was awesome. Singer does a very respectable job covering Carr's bombastic style. The band sounds tight. Would love to see them do this live at a show I attend. BTW, whats up with the edit in the middle?
The reason KISS doesn't include this song on their set list more often because there wouldn't be any room left for covers of songs by The Who like My Generation and Won't Get Fooled Again.
I’d love to hear them play “I” and “Under the Rose” as well. The Elder has it’s moments but overall it’s not a great collection of songs. It has pockets of great stuff but not their best.

Is it the sam fans loving it now and hated it back then? I doubt. I hated the elder when I was 16 in 1981, and I was a huge Kiss fan before the elder.
I love the Elder. It was one of my favorite KISS albums at the time, next to Unmasked and ALIVE. And it still one of my favorite KISS Albums. My son, whom is 22 now, it is also his favorite as well. I guess it is more a taste thing. You either have the taste for the album, or not. I just think that Eric Carr's drumming on the album is epic. Even though he was not excited about doing the album, he played the hell out of the drums on it.
I just discovered this song. I love the riffs but they can't hit those falsetto notes! They should have just added backup singers or something! I love the song though! Real Metal!
