nothing tops brachy for me, it introduced my favorite "element" to the series and is always a super fun monster to fight everytime i hunt it, it feels like a true "worthy opponent" situation where we're both equally matched, also its music is fantastic
Game One mention, hell yeah! 3 Ultimate was also the Monster Hunter game that made the series click for me. And I still want underwater combat to return!
@@KitsuLeif I honestly stopped watching them after the PS4 and Xbox One episode mainly due to me starting to get my gaming news from youtube but I was positively surprised to see them still going on youtube via game two
Bomb ass video! Tri was my first game way back on Wii! bought it on a whim one day at Wal Mart. Since I didn't know any better and was learning the entire game the underwater segments didn't bother me! These days I'd love to see Capcom take another shot at underwater. I've made my own videos about the topic myself! Maybe we can collab in the future! You've earned my sub fellow underwater enjoyer!
Kaname Fujioka is a little more than just "a long time member of the MH team" hehe Good Vid, on the roars thing... i'm on the fence, on one side yeas the older ones have more umph to them but also i find that the new ones are more recognisable, in particular the rathalos one. I 100% agree on how amazing the maps could look underwater now, i think they could pull this off!
Bring underwater combat back with the Rise silk wire bug movements used as underwater mobility mechanics! Simplify it a bit so the slinger grapple shoots out a closed umbrella like torpedo / harpoon that opens and allows you to pull yourself towards it. Revamped underwater combat could be amazing! I’d also love to see a return of more of the commodity items mechanics on expeditions. That was super fun. Glad you discussed the roar sounds too. Did you hear the crappy grizzly bear stock roar they gave gravios in Wilds?
@ hopefully we don’t get generic grizzly roar Skyrim bear sound for gravios. I really liked his older sounds that really made him sound like a giant rock monster with molten heat inside and almost bio-mechanical laser power
You should watch the whole MH3U segment in the episode. They made like a "round table" of monsters in which they discuss their roles. All of it is done with the puppets! Its great!
Started with 3U personally! Absolutely loved it even though I had nobody to play with, had to really push to complete Hub solo and it was fun! I'd love to see them taking a crack at underwater combat in the future, I am kind of hoping we'll see an underwater expansion to Wilds, but I won't get my hopes up, I think it'd be better as a base game feature to make sure it has a big enough monster pool for it
If at all an underwater combat game would need to be its own major entry in the series, I doubt they would have the time and the funds to add it in an expansion
Without Game One i would never have gotten into monster hunter (atleast as a kid) because i had limited internet access and just played the games i already owned. I saw the mh3u game one episode and instantly fell in love with all those cool monster designs and begged my dad to get me this game for the 3ds. Monster Hunter has been my favorite video game franchise ever since
Great video! I can’t say I remember much of this game (base tri), but since it was my first MH game i do like to hear about it! I probably wouldn’t mind the underwater combat nowadays, but as a kid, it was just so hard to get a hold of >.
I really think the point of underwater is to be difficult and put you at a disadvantage, but once you finally corner that monster on land it completely makes up for the lost time in the water while beating on a fish out of water, at least this is how some monsters are but new games can easily design more into this and with new tech make it more fun in general. I’d really like capcom to try at it again
I don't know about how they'd rework the whole schematic of underwater combat, but they could introduce a new type of Pal based on marine life to help with speed and manuverability. Seals, dolphins, maybe even a type of domesticated leviathan. And it would work pretty much the same as Palamutes and Seikrets.
Quite honestly I do feel like the Palicos/Felynes could fill that role too. In 3U Cha Cha & Kayamba can wear the ancient mask that gives you air on demand. They could just do that but as like palico armor skills or just skills or special tools
I'm currently playing through 3U and it has been quite fun doing underwater hunts! I am struggling a bit adjusting to the controls since I'm used to the ease of use of the 5th generation games. I want underwater to come back. Imagining monsters in recent games that are partially submerged to have underwater fights would do justice to a lot of them. Jyuratodus might even become a better fight and monsters like Somnacanth and Almudron won't look awkward anymore since they aren't diving into ankle height water
i think another thing to note is how they made above water combat in wilds with specifically aquatic monsters. uth duna seems to have multiple moves where they create waves and actively makes use of water bodies, i think it's very interesting to see how they incorporate underwater aspects, even above ground.
imo underwater was hated because doing a thing where you can freely move in 3d with full control of the camera with a single joystick is horrendous, if you replaye 3U on emulator with a 2 joystick modern controller, it's so fun (but then, the overworld with the levelled camera feels so klunky)
Outside of Ceadeus, Every "water" monster can return outside of the water. There was a G rank hunt where Gobul spawned in area 1 of Flooded. It has ai for shin deep water which exists in rice's flooded... BRING BACK MY GOBUL
I’m am hoping to the point of coping that someday they make an open world game where you can travel to various islands! I love the coastal ecosystem from the 3 ultimate trailer and can imagine some sort of dolphin penguin mount that could scoot us around the water to make up for the lack of mobility that can be seen in the old school swimming
Ok a fully open world MH would most likely be devastating to the series unless the open world isn't hand crafted centimeter by centimeter and thus limited. I much prefer the semi open world that we have now
I played the hell out of tri, but it took me a bit to realize that there was a lot missing in it, and i never beat it sadly, but its grew my love for MH games insanely
i played 3u on a new3dsxl! the nub helped a lot to wrangle the camera, but imo the big difference maker was usable 3d! you could actually have some usable depth perception underwater! i love the 3d in 4u as well, the most beautiful cutscenes in the series and only a small percent of the fans got to see it.
I only played Tri from gen 3,so far and pretty recently, so I didn't really have much time to think about possible monsters or areas, but I think it can open up quite a of interesting possibilities with crustaceans as well as add another dimension to some already existing monsters like Zamtrios or Pokaradon
I’m fr worried that the vibes of the villages ain’t gonna have any of the tribal feel of something like moga or poki villages.. I also feel like I’m gonna miss the music from that era but I will keep my hopes up till February 28th! The beta was super fun and I’m super excited about the increased monster density and the way the ecosystem interacts Imo people like great jaggi because of the goofy personality that comes with its frill and because it was featured in multiple of the monster ecology clips introduced in Tri that were super awesome
I feel you The 5th gen so far has not felt like you are the village hero but rather one cog in a giant operation. It doesn't feel that personal anymore, even in Rise even though you ARE the village hero in that one. Something feels more clinical to me about these newer entries. I would even go so far to say that that feeling started with Generations
I never really had an issue with underwater, maybe it was because Tri was my first game so i was at the point of accepting the logic of how using a giant sword was going to slow down my attack and recovery speed compared to a smaller sword, so adding being underwater slowing me down further logically clicked so it was just up to me to get it to work.
yea that is a thing that divides those who started pre-Tri and those who started with Tri. Tho admittedly those who enjoyed swimming were in the minority back then But i mean it is understandable, not everyone likes to be EVEN slower
The thing with underwater combat is that, it's not just a Monster Hunter problem to solve, but an industry-wide problem to solve as there has never really been a game that's done both grounded and underwater melee combat well in the same package. So the amount of work that the team would have to do, isn't just down to creating new animations and movesets, it's figuring the whole kit and caboodle out again and then implementing that new system on top of the existing one on top of the new animations and movesets. This is why Capcom is saying it's like making a whole new game.
Tri was such a significant entry for the Franchise. People don't give it enough credit. You hear people all the time say "Oh, World made MH mainstream" or "Rise did" or "Wilds will be the first to do it" but no. Tri already did it. It was just a slow, steady rise is all.
I disagree with the sentiment that Tri made it mainstream. It made it more popular but it was far from mainstream. But I do agree that it does not get enough credit
Personally I have never seen the interest in underwater other than the variety of things we could see there I do want it to return because it would be huge and massively insane to see in 6th gen with all the new features and systems we have to make it worthwhile Who knows maybe wilds dlc would be focused on underwater, giving us that final taste of freedom for the final part of wilds yknow But for 3U? Idk Im not entirely hooked on 3U underwater but I think it would need a face lift before returning to main series
Chiming by for the engagement bait: As someone who deeply enjoys the ecology aspect of Monster Hunter I do enjoy the new roars more. They just feel like they come from the monster more than before.
@ItsHawx oh I wouldn't say they are unnatural, but the new ones just sound more fitting in my opinion and, since they allude to other animals make for fun theory crafting about these monster's behaviour with that new association.
Underwater is actually quite nice imo. Although olimpic swimmer is a must for me 😅 Your character dodging up or down instead of forwards or backwards is a special mechanic that I don't remember how works 😅
@ItsHawx I didn't do it consciously, but at some point I just stopped dodging in wrong directions, without thinking what exactly I was doing I ignored the prompt that was explaining it tho, so messing it up almost until the end of the game is on me
3 Ultimate also reduced the herd sizes for Great Jaggi and Great Baggi by having less than half the small monsters in the same area as what they had in Tri.
Oh man yea that would be an issue Would a setting that removes the "fog of war" underwater help? like that blue obscurity that sets in once an object is too far away
I think the biggest problem of uw combat was technical issues, with how game are rn I think they could make a really good underwater combat, tho like they said it takes a lot of work and it might mean other aspects of the game would worse, like a really small roster
Yea that is indeed the issue. It would have to be a major entry in the series that would either, as you said, launch with a limited amount of content to accomodate UW combat or would have to be in development even longer than wilds (which already took more time than usual)
in my opinion underwahter combat in TriG was fine and lagi really isnt the same without whater combat, geting it back with optimized movement would be so great
If he can be reworked entirely I genuinely have to ask why even include normal lagiacrus? Why not just focus on Ivory Lagiacrus or to be even more specific Landconquest Lagiacrus
monster hunter 3u was my introduction to the series, and what got me hocked on it. wile i do miss a few monsters from that game (no longer own a 3ds or the game), i don't miss underwater combat. i hated it, the rest of the game was super fun and inof to get me hocked on it though. got wilds on pre order, and have enjoyed world and rise for many hours, can't wait to put another 2k hours into wilds, still love the series. would i want underwater combat to come back, not sure. if done right it is fun, but if done wrong, we have a mh3 situation again, and for a modern game, any losses are potentional the death of a series. so no, i rather not have that risk, and stick with what people enjoy, wich is land based combat. if they want to implament it in a future series. lest do some underwater harvesting first, and not full underwater combat. get all the flaws out of the system, before making it cannon.
@ItsHawx The loss of ZL and ZR for dedicated dodge up/down and swim up/down was a shame. I'm surprised they didn't include the feature for the circle pad pro.
8:31 bro you don't need to gas up Duramboros by outright lying or punching down on Banbaro. Duram flinging itself to space does everything to convince anyone how awesome it is, but that "soil" bit is barely anything when Banbaro is actually scooping up trees and boulders during its own charge. If anything there could have been more to say about a possible link in inspiration for Banbaro's charge, but nah gotta go for the memes and downplay other monsters I guess. Weird, annoyingly disingenuous "genwunner" bits like this are why I can't stand most MH creators on YT
you said the worse ofender is zinogre with the roar ... Brachy soudns in world literally like a cow ,,, XDD i mean many world mosnters have this sound design Tzitzi makes chicken sounds Kulu gurrs like a Pigeon in many sounds he makes now we got in wilds Gravios who has literally bear sounds in his roars i mean i completly can udnerstand where theyxr comign from with this they allways wantet to make the mosnters feel more groundet and more like well animals rather then "monsters"
Just to clarify: i am 100% ok with the new monsters and their respective roars being more grounded. Just a bit bummed that some old ones sound entirely different Also the gravios thing: this video was written in mid december and voiced early january. The gravi-bear was not yet revealed
@@ItsHawx yeah i know i jsut mean they have a good reason to do so and many odler mosnters already had this like great jaggi is just a howler monkey and it wasnt menat as negatively or so just pointing it out
Everyone's being water positive, but I gotta be that guy. Underwater hunting was unpleasant in Gen 3, and I am glad it has never returned, and I hope it never does. There are so many other ways the MH team can innovate other than trying the old school "put the player underwater" trick.
It certainly had its faults. Replaying 3U after all this time really took my rose tinted glasses off. Though I still love it. I can see why people would not want it back but then again the tech was way more limited back then. Maybe a more modernized approach could actually be a lot better....maybe
@ItsHawx Thanks for replying! Good points. I think they could definitely improve it, my main feeling is that it's not worth improving because the effort would not be worth the result. Underwater combat in games not 100% designed around it just always feels off and like some separate mini game to me.
Underwater combat was never bad as people love to say it was... It is like the clutch claw in World, you don't hate the claw you hate tenderizing and that alone... All problems with underwater combat are easy fixes, and with the movement from wirebugs and the clutch claw you can have amazing underwater movement and combat. Also considering the hit stop situation and that "Players in the West wont like a palico in a serious game", they need to stop listening to Westerns and just make a games ffs... Wields, gen 6 was perfect to get underwater back and I'm 100% we don't have it because this game needs to hit Western markets again...
No no the reason we don't have underwater combat is mainly due to the fact that the devs themselves did not like programming UW stuff and it took so many resources that it detracted from every other aspect of the game. Today it would be the same situation. The devs said in an interview that it would be like making a new game inside an existing game.
Kinda wrong since 3rd gen was the first attempt of 3D movement which 4th gen then took in a different direction. But yes I do agree 4U is the peak of MH
@@ItsHawx the sound is more detailed. before every single one was just a loud roar. but take the zinogre for exemple, it's a mix of wolf + lion ( i think ) with some added distortion on the sound. overall it add some personality to the monster making it not just another enraged beast
i think it plays a great role when it comes to having a favorite monster and many other things. thanks to roar if i blindfold u and ask u to play , u might be able to dodge several attack, right?
Oh I wholeheartedly agree it is more accurate to them being actual wild animals instead of fantasy monsters. That is after all what the team was going for. They understood the assignment and executed it well. I personally just perfer the fantastical roars of raging beasts. Sure it is not accurate (i.e. the metallic boom in pre-5th gen tigrex roars) but it made them even more special to me. Like their normal coos and gurgles and what have you sounded like normal animals but when enraged they would turn into something more. No longer a wild animal but rather an enemy. If that makes sense. It is merely a preference. Though not gonna lie, I am not sure whether you have seen the new Gravios gameplay for MHWilds but the execution of that roar feels half baked with the grizzly roar just genuinely slapped in there at the end
Even with massive improvements to underwater combat there is no chance it will ever be even close to being as good as normal combat. I mean for one weapons have only become more complex in terms of movesets, which can't be replicated underwater or atleast I can't image how that would be possible. Weapon movesets most likely would have to be vastly inferior underwater for it actually feel better if they reworked it. I mean there us only so much possible with the limited buttons on controllers, so both keeping weapon complexity aswell as vastly improving the controls underwater seems impossible to me. With that in mind the gap in terms of quality between normal and underwater combat would just be too massive in modern gen games and because of that most players will absolutely despise undetwater combat even more compared to back then. Furthermore as the devs explainerd numerous times it's increadibly resource intensive and almost certainly not worth the effort and espacially not the risk of loosing alot of players. Quite frankly I don't see them ever bringing back undetwater combat but if they did most likely not in a main line home console game. At most they would experiment with a portable game and then see how it's received.
Man I have GOT to get my hands on a copy of 3U so I can emulate it. I'm a beliver in the potential of underwater combat and I feel like my arguments would be better founded if I have actually experienced it.
I am sure you can find 3U on ebay, amazon hell maybe even just asking in local message boards I got my hands on breath of the wild via local message board
I think the newer monster sound is better...the older ones sounded chrap tbh... I startet with Portable2 just to buy unite half a year later... My friend and i didn t understood much of thr game until Unite which was a banger...i have a few thousand hours in this game...crazy... After Tri i kinda stoped playing monster huntet because every new game had a different console...it was annoying...and expensive..
Yea MH can at times be an expensive franchise to follow. Tho nowadays every game should at some point come to PC and the non nintendo consoles (even if the games may launch on nintendo first)
No I prefer more unique and realistic roars and howls. I hate lame pre World roars Same goes for early design stuff. I hate Nargacuga and Tigrex walking with their arms raised and hate Barioth's weirdly boring face

Eternal Words - Monster Hunter 3 [Tir]
It's the theme that comes during the celebration cutscene for finishing the Low Rank village quests in tri
Underwater is actually quite nice imo. Although olimpic swimmer is a must for me 😅
Your character dodging up or down instead of forwards or backwards is a special mechanic that I don't remember how works 😅
I genuinely have not once figured out how to intentionally do those dodges
@ItsHawx I didn't do it consciously, but at some point I just stopped dodging in wrong directions, without thinking what exactly I was doing
I ignored the prompt that was explaining it tho, so messing it up almost until the end of the game is on me
@@ItsHawx after an attack, dodging back goes down, dodging forwards goes up and side dodges are still normal.
3 Ultimate also reduced the herd sizes for Great Jaggi and Great Baggi by having less than half the small monsters in the same area as what they had in Tri.
Oh damn really?
As cool as underwater combat seems, both of my main mh friends have thalassophobia and I… would like to be able to play with them
Oh man yea that would be an issue
Would a setting that removes the "fog of war" underwater help? like that blue obscurity that sets in once an object is too far away
I think I like both roars to be honest both sound cool
Glad that at least someone can enjoy the new roars
3u was my intro to the series and i fell in love even if i sucked ass
Oh what was your fav monster from 3u?
@ItsHawx lagi and brachy. They both are such a presence and vibe that are amazing.
in my opinion underwahter combat in TriG was fine and lagi really isnt the same without whater combat, geting it back with optimized movement would be so great
If he can be reworked entirely I genuinely have to ask why even include normal lagiacrus? Why not just focus on Ivory Lagiacrus or to be even more specific Landconquest Lagiacrus
When they brought back lagi in 4 or gen, cant remember which one it was, it basically was ivory with the default skin
monster hunter 3u was my introduction to the series, and what got me hocked on it.
wile i do miss a few monsters from that game (no longer own a 3ds or the game), i don't miss underwater combat.
i hated it, the rest of the game was super fun and inof to get me hocked on it though.
got wilds on pre order, and have enjoyed world and rise for many hours, can't wait to put another 2k hours into wilds, still love the series.
would i want underwater combat to come back, not sure.
if done right it is fun, but if done wrong, we have a mh3 situation again, and for a modern game, any losses are potentional the death of a series.
so no, i rather not have that risk, and stick with what people enjoy, wich is land based combat.
if they want to implament it in a future series.
lest do some underwater harvesting first, and not full underwater combat.
get all the flaws out of the system, before making it cannon.
I can def see why one would hate the UW combat. While I love it I can see that it 100% needs some work
Underwater evasion controls were changed in 3U and are more limited then it was in Tri.
Yea I figured as it was exclusive to the 3ds for a while iirc
@ItsHawx The loss of ZL and ZR for dedicated dodge up/down and swim up/down was a shame. I'm surprised they didn't include the feature for the circle pad pro.
Underwater combat was always goated
By Gog he speaks the truth
I miss underwater combat :(
I miss mining spots in farms :(
8:31 bro you don't need to gas up Duramboros by outright lying or punching down on Banbaro.
Actually I am a "gentooer"
I thought underwater was great.
But then I played tri on the wii, 3U on WiiU and PC
Never played on 3ds where the complaints actually came from.
Lemme tell you the term "claw" would have haunted your nightmares and your hands' muscle memory
you said the worse ofender is zinogre with the roar ...
Brachy soudns in world literally like a cow ,,, XDD
i mean many world mosnters have this sound design
Tzitzi makes chicken sounds
Kulu gurrs like a Pigeon in many sounds he makes
now we got in wilds Gravios who has literally bear sounds in his roars
i mean i completly can udnerstand where theyxr comign from with this
they allways wantet to make the mosnters feel more groundet and more like well animals rather then "monsters"
Just to clarify: i am 100% ok with the new monsters and their respective roars being more grounded. Just a bit bummed that some old ones sound entirely different
Also the gravios thing: this video was written in mid december and voiced early january. The gravi-bear was not yet revealed
@@ItsHawx yeah i know i jsut mean they have a good reason to do so
and many odler mosnters already had this
like great jaggi is just a howler monkey
and it wasnt menat as negatively or so just pointing it out
Game One did the same to me, but with the episode about Tri... now I feel old.
I am genuinely so surprised seeing more people who know what game one is
@@ItsHawx well, I´m from germany, and I was 12 or so, when it was still on tv
Servus mein guder
@ Moin Meister.
@ ich stimme übrigens zu, Lagiacrus ohne Unterwasser Kombat wird ihm nicht gerecht.
3rd gen of mh doesn’t matter when MH4U still remains as the best game in the series
Kinda wrong since 3rd gen was the first attempt of 3D movement which 4th gen then took in a different direction. But yes I do agree 4U is the peak of MH
as a sound engineer i have to tell u that your take on the monsters roar is not your best
It is a thing I know people are split on
What is your take on it?
@@ItsHawx the sound is more detailed. before every single one was just a loud roar. but take the zinogre for exemple, it's a mix of wolf + lion ( i think ) with some added distortion on the sound. overall it add some personality to the monster making it not just another enraged beast
@@ItsHawx thank u for taking your time and giving consideration to my pov. much appreciated
i think it plays a great role when it comes to having a favorite monster and many other things. thanks to roar if i blindfold u and ask u to play , u might be able to dodge several attack, right?
At most they would experiment with a portable game and then see how it's received.
gran vídeo
Muchas gracias
They ruined saed, so I will probably not touch charge blade. But they did buff the bow...
Man I have GOT to get my hands on a copy of 3U so I can emulate it. I'm a beliver in the potential of underwater combat and I feel like my arguments would be better founded if I have actually experienced it.
I am sure you can find 3U on ebay, amazon hell maybe even just asking in local message boards
I got my hands on breath of the wild via local message board
Geartsword is god, they both got g's
So does Gunlance, Longsword, both bowguns, insect glaive and hunting horn
@ItsHawx all those weapons are god too
Marvelous
7:30 🤦
I think the newer monster sound is better...the older ones sounded chrap tbh...
I startet with Portable2 just to buy unite half a year later...
My friend and i didn t understood much of thr game until Unite which was a banger...i have a few thousand hours in this game...crazy...
After Tri i kinda stoped playing monster huntet because every new game had a different console...it was annoying...and expensive..
Yea MH can at times be an expensive franchise to follow. Tho nowadays every game should at some point come to PC and the non nintendo consoles (even if the games may launch on nintendo first)
phhh wtf a german show???! that comes random, yeah game one was the reason i began with monster hunter tri
No u derwater please.
Understandable, have a nice day
First
No I prefer more unique and realistic roars and howls. I hate lame pre World roars
Same goes for early design stuff. I hate Nargacuga and Tigrex walking with their arms raised and hate Barioth's weirdly boring face
I always thought Barioth's face was kinda cute 😭
@@ItsHawx don't get me wrong I love Barioth and his design, but in older games specifically smth makes his face look so darn lame to me 😅
