GUJARATI DAL RECIPE - Delicious Wedding-Style Dal! | Sanjana.Feasts

  • Gujarati Wedding Dal, also called Gujarati Lagan Dal is an aromatic preparation of split pigeon peas, peanuts and whole spices. The sour, spicy and slightly sweet flavour of this flowing dal is exactly like the Gujarati Dal we eat as part of a wedding thali. Serve with rice for a truly Gujarati dal-bhaat experience. Delicious!
While Gujarati Dal at weddings is usually a more filling affair, at home, it can be much more casual. I like to eat it as it is, with boiled rice and a dollop of plain set yoghurt. There's something so satisfying about the hot and sour dal against the cold yoghurt. A touch of jaggery in the dal offsets the flavours so beautifully.

You made me miss my grandmother! I could smell it rushing in from school in Mombasa and it was her hands that made it and not mom, lol! Grateful I discovered your channel. Thank you for all these amazing recipes!

I like your technique of tempering the spices at the start, instead of.the end like some people do. That way the dhal infuses with the spices for the whole cook time. It's what I do buy I use lemon as the sour ingredient instead of the mango. A good recipe

Hi Sanjana, always love dal! I have a question: I recently found the vegetable parwal at my local market, but don't know how to prepare it. Do you have a suggestion or a recipe for this? Thank you!

What’s that beautiful tri-colored food next to it on the tray? Also do Indian grocery stores sell that tray because it looks so cool?

Hello! They’re called Far Far or Fryums. They’re crispy crackers made from potato starch and sago. Very popular at weddings and celebrations. I got my tray from TF cash and carry in Leicester, UK but any Indian kitchenware shop will have them, or online. You could always ask at your local grocery shop if they can source one for you. They’re really handy!

Love the way you have maintained its authenticity. Great recipe, miss. I always tried to achieve this taste being far from my mother here in west. Thank you! 🥂

The intro part helped me actually because now I learned certain things to achieve the flavor. Those tips only a family member will patiently explain.
