  • The Steam Deck finally has an official dock… but is docking it even any good to begin with? How does the experience compare to docking a Nintendo Switch? And what dock should you buy?!?

    Still love my deck over switch any day. Am not bothered about docking station I bought it to use as a handheld. That's all I use it for and I love my dock.

    You won me a sub with the starter video. But any word on if the resolution issues are fixed when docking durning a game? I get my deck tomorrow

      Sadly, nothing in this video has changed, and my understanding is that it's unlikely to change anytime soon.
      The Steam Deck does an amazing job of putting PC gaming in a handheld form factor, but in some areas - like docking - the cracks begin to show.

    Been there, done that....I dock it to the Steam Dock almost every day. No issues except The Witcher 3 keeps changing resolution if I play on PC first...which I do. They might fix that with the next gen update. Had to adjust black and white contrast on my TV as well but it's ok now otherwise you won't see a thing in dark areas. I play using wifi and not one jitter so far and we're talking 4 hours of playtime. I use Microsoft Xbox controller series X/S using bluetooth....works like a charm.......

      It doesn’t work like a charm as there is noticeable input delay.

    Dynamic display adjustment for PC games while the game is running hasn't been a thing until recently. Highlighted by the popularity of the SteamDeck. I have little doubt that Valve and the Open Source community working on Proton and other compatibility layers are working on this exact issue. The variable is how long will it take. Open Source devs can be quite stubborn when it comes to implementing features they feel aren't needed. Valve improved this situation by working in tandem with some OS teams and treating it like a business that requires money to get done.

    I noticed when you go docked mode, I need to relaunch the game in order to make the Controller work, it was previously connected, and I was able to manipulate the Deck's menus but no the game itself, for that I need to relaunch the game, in there a way to fix this?

      Most likely, when you're switching to Docked mode, it's re-ordering the controllers for some reason, and the controller you have connected was set to "controller 2".
      Most PC games don't actually have support for multiple controllers, and will only respond to inputs from whatever is set as "controller 1", whereas the Steam Deck itself will respond to any connected controller.
      When you start up a game, the Steam Deck will set whatever controller you used to start it as "controller 1" (which is why re-launching the game fixes it), but you can also manually re-order controllers yourself (useful for fixing this issue when the game is already running). I show how to do that at the end of this video: th-cam.com/video/AABAe3pdK-k/w-d-xo.html
      Hopefully that helps you resolve the issue!

    I still don’t get why people buy a handheld and use it like a console.

    • @ericwindsor339
      @ericwindsor339 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, they buy a handheld that's able to hit good frames at 800p, and then try to hook it up to a TV that's at least 1080p making their performance worse, and basically forces them to use another controller that's worse than the controller of the Steam Deck. That's just a lose-lose
