Played this my 10th grade year (1991-92 school year) for the Georgia Musi Educators Association Festival and Contest. You can hear the judge on the tape saying (at the end) "Baritone, you are speeding up!! Baritone, you are getting out of hand!!" That Baritone...was me!!!
I remember playing this on my bass clarinet, that year there was two of us and it was so fun. Two years later my dear bass clarinet friend passed away. in tears. Miss you Aurora
@@aaronblanchard4259 thank you so much. You know what they say about bass clarinets, we stick together!! But seriously, thank you. May she be dancing on clouds

I played 3rd clarinet for this piece. Although I was sad getting the 3rd part, I grew to love playing this song, especially in the “I’m Sad and Lonely” part. It’s so beautiful and fun to play!! update: i made this comment in my freshman year of high school, i’m a freshman in college now but my band got to play this for my last concert of high school! i ended up playing the same part but in a different ensemble 😭
I remember my band trying to perfect this for a concert or a festival and my band director getting so frustrated over our little mistakes that he ended up scrapping it and having us only play it as a warm-up piece lol. The good times of concert band

SovietPudding yes, I know some people can have control. But a trumpet’s low note is really high still so even if you try to play soft it’s not possible for some people. The only way some less loud instruments can be heard is if the trumpets have a mute or they play the note incorrectly.
@@beakerthebeaver581 I usually just don't play or have practiced before hand, since I am first trumpet I usually ask the other trumpets to be quiet also. Sometimes I will use a mute if everyone is done tuning already.
I love this piece! We are playing it for MPA in a few months and I’m playing the first clarinet part. I thought this piece was interesting because it’s three different pieces of music with three different styles and the tempo never changes! Well there is a retardando at the end, but besides that i thought it was super cool how the piece stayed consistent with the tempo. Great job Clare ❤️
We are going to play it this weekend for FAU judges wish me and my band good luck! (and if there are french horns that are playing this piece say here!!!)
@@sophiathiele3121I also am a bassoonist, and I always thought that I was left with a slightly different section than the other low brass/woodwinds at both H & J
Play this on alto clarinet this year, highschool band, I'm in 9th grade and its my faverite song for the upcoming consert I have. To my surprise i get more parts in the song than I expected
I'm in my school districts middle school honor band as a trombone and I love this song its just that our director told us that this is the hardest song we'll be playing so I get overwhelmed by his words but I've improved without practicing just listening which can help (After our 1st rehearsal he got super worried about the trombones😢)
1:05 always is the finest part. That trumpet and saxophone harmony is just perfect. "Especially when it's in tune" This recording seems a little bit off.
I relate to “I’m Sad and Lonely”

That is what my WHOLE school band says 😂 there's like 50 kids
