Thank you so much for this video...I was just looking for cleaning the post motor filter, and then saw this, with how to remove the bin to wash it (which I had never known how to either!), and found I could clean the whole lot! We live on a dirt road - so much dirt and grit now no longer living in my machine! I am sure it will work so much better!! Thank you again.

Thank you so much!!! I had done the usual disassembly and cleaning, but after putting it back together, there seemed to be a lot of fine dust continuing to emanate from the cyclone and collecting in the bin, (which is a real drag after spending considerable time cleaning it). And I was thinking if only I knew how to open up the cyclone to see where the dust was coming from. And here you are! Very much appreciated!

Many thanks. I got careless and sucked some water into my V8 Animal. It mixed with the accumulated dust and formed a paste that shut it down (made the pulsing you mentioned). I almost ordered a replacement vacuum but decided to do a little research and found this post. Very easy to follow, and I already had a set of torx bits, so I figured all I had to risk would be an hour of my time. All went well. I tore up the edge more than you did separating 5 clips between the inner and outer plastic housings, but it had no impact on function, and fortunately, that's as far as I needed to go.

Excellent video. I purchase Dysons at my local Goodwill when I can find them. Your videos have helped me clean them up so they are useable in my home. Even when I buy them without a charger, I use my existing charger to charge the compatible vacuums. The fact that you REassemble is key. I can take them apart, but I’m horrible and putting them back together. In some instances I write the screw size on the unit with a Sharpie to remind myself.

The rest of the story: I called Dyson twice re my lid off of the cannister. Initially it was suggested I view a video they would send to me. It was useless. Second time: I was told that lid should NEVER come off & if it does the cannister needs to be replaced. As she interacted with the tech & returned with his clear answer that is could NOT be put back, I waited til she was finished. While on hold I fiddled, again, with this knowledge about the tabs that you pointed out. . Presto, it worked! After her dire news I shared how it is in & working. Wrong response! She did warn me that this was just temporary.

Thank you very much! My unit was stinking to high heaven and it was quite non-obvious to me how the heck to take it apart. I’m not sure how many times I can take that screen off, but the rest of it I can see happening on a regular basis for years to come. I’m very careful to line up with the previous original thread when I put the screws back in, So that should last a long time. There’s only so much dog dander you can vacuum up before these things start to smell. I bet a lot of people just throw them away!

  • @gryzman

It’s a cost benefit analysis there. The time it takes and the dirt that’s possible to clean out is extremely unbalanced. I’ve found it to be a waste of time and effort. Thanks for the comment!

thank you, your video gave our v8 a stay of execution..
A new battery, new filters, and thorough cleaning (dusting ) seemed to solve the pulsing though occasionally was still doing it .. not sure if a factor, but with an aftermarket rear filter, two I bought seemed that they were causing a pulsing, so pulled out a newish Dyson brand filter (we had three V8s) this is the last one standing,.
The pulsing went away for a month or so, but returned,so watched your video, deep cleaned .. we shall see .. not buying Dysons again .. seems the lifespan is approximately 2-3 years, so we reverted to a cheap corded stick we brought for cabin, that and a built-in system..
one other thing, many buy new vac etc. for new houses or post renovation.. watch out, plaster and drywall gyprock dust kills vacuums.. especially if the forced air system was not cleaned out post handover ..

Hey thank you for this! Great walkthrough - I had sucked up some rice and some water and then hadn’t emptied the bin and it had gotten all gunky and smelly inside, tearing this down to do a proper clean and reassembling - it’s all back to normal now!!
Definitely found removing the cylindrical filter (wedging the flathead screwdriver around the edges) to be the toughest part, was scared of breaking it, but managed to eventually pry it off!

This was about as clean and straightforward as a tutorial can get - I wouldn't change a thing. Question for you, my V8 seems to hold most of the dirt in the cyclone area. I have pulled it apart and washed each piece with soap, water, and a pipe cleaner. Have you seen/fixed this issue before? My last resort will be to apply a spray-on wax to the disassembled parts to reduce friction. Keep up the great work.

My v8 has star/Torx screws. I'm thinking maybe because it's refurbished, since no videos I've watched have mentioned it. If you find yourself in the same situation, you can use a flat head screwdriver or a hex key/allen wrench, but they have to be the exact same size. good luck.

@@elaineahn2753 oh I see. It’s actually not possible to remove that section without breaking the clear bin. There are internal clips and they refuse to come loose with prying (I’ve tried). There’s only a certain amount of pressure I will apply to plastic parts before I know they are about to break. This is one of those parts. Compressed air is best method to remove any build up in there! 👍🏼

I figured it out! The dust bin has a rubber seal that squeezes the chrome cylinder as you push and pull. I must've cl3aned the lubricant off. I took a cotton ball, sprayed some wd40 and lightly coated the cylinder. Good to go.

I would replace the battery. The on/off switch is located inside the battery and it sounds like yours is faulty.

@@leppertbowhunting8089 Ok. So. I have seen this issue before on a few occasions. Unfortunately what I found with others doing the same thing is that the board has failed somehow. My guess is that water caused the issue but there is no reason to go forward because you cannot get the board separate from the entire motor assembly. You'll probably have to replace the motor assembly.

Currently the V7 and V8 are identical in regards to the cyclone and dirt cup. If anyone has a V7 that is NOT identical to the one in this video I would love to know! :)

Quick question, I have a Dyson v8 Animal and all of a sudden, when opening it to empty the canister it feels like the upper rubberized red seal inside the dust bin is binding to the filter, it's dragging heavily and slowly, the rubber feels like it is gripping the metal mesh inside the dust canister. Do you have any idea how or even *if* this can be fixed, it almost feels like something is misaligned.
