I think creating realistic portrait nail art really comes down to making sure everything is proportional which is probably the hardest part! I definitely spend a lot of time going back and forth trying to achieve the perfect outline/general proportions. Getting the proper proportions is probably the most important thing, I’d say just make sure to really take your time and keep going back and forth tweaking it as you see fit, curing in between to cover up any mistakes or make any adjustments. And for shading, once you have a solid base color down, my favorite tip for realistic shading is to mix the deeper shades with a clear base coat before applying. Adding the base coat to the colors helps create a jelly-like/translucent effect so when you apply it to the area you want darker, there’s automatically a seamless blend. I do this with all the colors, with the deeper tones to create shadow, with pinks for blush, and even with the highlight if I need to brighten up any areas. The base coat helps to tone the colors down and create a really nice blend. I hope this makes sense and helps you out! I’m pretty new to doing realism on nails and it’s definitely something I struggle with and want to improve, those are some tips I’ve learned along the way that help me out! 😄
